Thanks for joining Kim and me for the weekly run down. This week I am diving into my half marathon training plan. My motto of the week is trust the process. I am aiming to hit all the workouts and stay on track.
Weekly Run Down Trust the process
Monday- core + Upper body strength push + stretch
I decided to repeat the Peloton split strength set from last week with JJ. Today was chest and triceps. I upped some of the weights from last and wow, that was tough. That 3rd set is where the magic happens. I actually enjoy working a muscle to failure and this class did the trick.
I also announced that I am happy to be back on the Run Happy Team again with Brooks.
Tuesday- 5 mile progression run + stretch/mobility
Per my training plan, I performed a progression run which is basically a negative split run. I started at my easy pace and then ended up at my threshold pace. Thank goodness for Garmin beeping to tell me what to do! One of my miles in the middle was a little too fast but overall, I was happy.
Wednesday- core + upper body pull + Peloton Cycle + stretch
Today’s upper body was pull focusing on biceps, back and core. It was a tough one in a good way. I split up my stretching to get it all in. Never great a stretch class! I did an IG reel demonstrating some tips on how to get more out of this quad stretch. This was the cover photo.
Thursday- 4.5 miles + 30 min stretching
Today’s workout had a few intervals at half marathon pace which seemed easy when I read it but was challenging.
After doing some strides, my body wanted to run faster than that pace. I had to slow down and trust the process.
Friday- core + mobility + lower body strength + stretching + cycle
I finished day 3 of JJ’s split training program today. Focus was on legs and glutes. The 3rd set is where the magic happens and that 4th set is just wow. In a good way! Look for my review of this type of strength training soon!
Saturday-rest day from running and strength
30 min of stretching, mobility/yoga
We went to see Wicked at the Kennedy Center. I can’t believe it’s my first time seeing it!
Sunday-Run 8 miles on my plan
Slowly building back up my long easy runs and trusting the process.
Yes, trust the process!!! I know most runners, including me, run the easy runs too fast! I just feel as if my body dials into a pace every time I lace up. Nice week for you and Run Happy!
Yes, I know I run the easy runs too fast and I am really trying to work on that!
Congrats on your return to the Brooks team! Looks like a nice week of training. We saw Wicked on Broadway years ago, the kids were pretty young. Loved it!
It was so good! Can’t believe I had not seen it before
Yes, trust the process! Here’s to a fun and healthy training cycle.
We saw Wicked with running friends at The Kennedy Center about five or more years ago. We loved it, too!
It was so good! The set and the costumes were fab
Wicked is one of my favorite shows.
Congrats on continuing with Brooks. They rejected me. Boo.
Looks like everything is going well. Hope things continue through March!!
Wicked was great! The music the set and the costumes were fab. Nice to be back at shows again
Congrats on staying on the Brooks team — You are a great ambassador for them!
Glad you did another round of JJ. I’’m going to try his split next.
I’ve never seen Wicked ….
So happy to be back on the team!
I hit enter too fast! JJ’s classes were good and I pushed myself harder this week. Wicked was great-nice to back at shows again
Congrats on the Brooks team again! What a great gig. I have been struggling to get my paces this week, but hey, it’s early in the training cycle so I’m not quite up to speed yet (yep, trust the training process!). Hope you had a great long run!
I love the team! Yes, it is early in the training cycle and we have to just trust it
Well I have not (yet!) seen Wicked, and that’s been on my bucket list for a long time. I’m gonna have to check out JJ’s split program…really sounds enticing! Enjoy your run today 🙂
I do think you would like the structure of the split training programs. It takes out all the guess work!
Congratulations and great job with your workouts! You are always so dedicated!
I am very schedule oriented which really helps!
I’m looking forward to that strength training review. It’s funny how you and Coco both wrote about strength this week, and it’s something that I’m getting more and more interested in as well.
Sounds like you had some great runs this week- hope you enjoyed the 8 miler!
I have long loved doing strength training and it is fun to challenge myself by mixing it up
8 miler was windy and cold but good!
congrats on Brooks – so fun to be part of the team! And yes, trust the process. Such a good reminder for us all. Also – I LOVE Wicked!!
Wicked was good! Sometimes, it’s hard to trust the process but it works if you do
Great week for you!
I still haven’t seen Wicked, but I’m looking forward to getting back to seeing shows this year.
It was nice to be back out and about at a show again!
Your strength sessions this week sound great, I also very much like to rep out during my workouts, it’s such a satisfying feeling that you’ve worked the muscle to its limit.
Hope your long run went well today!
It sure is a satisfying feeling!
Congrats on staying on the #RunHappy Team. How fun! 🙂
Also sounds like you had a good training week of running and cross training!
thanks and yes, I did!
ooh didn’t realize you hadn’t seen Wicked before. It’s one of my two favorites with Les Mis.
Official congrats on being back with Brooks.
“After doing some strides, my body wanted to run faster than that pace. I had to slow down and trust the process.”
YES. I am so bad at listening, but I will do it right this cycl.e.
I am trying so hard to do it exactly how it is written! I know it works, I just need to trust that. We got this!
I haven’t tried the strength split programs yet but am definitely thinking of trying one out.
How did you enjoy Wicked? I have never seen it but want to!
Wicked was very good!! It was nice to be out and about like that again
Congrats on running happy with Brooks again! My body rarely wants to run faster than planned — sometimes that’s not a bad thing (at least sometimes, LOL!).
Mine does not always cooperate at the right time! Ha!
Progression runs are fun but also challenging. Great job this week. I saw Wicked more than 15 years ago and cannot remember too much about it, but know many people like it. My favorite show is The Lion King. I’ve seen it a few times and have paid “extra” to be in the front row.
progression runs are hard and I hope to get better at them. Wicked was great! I never saw Lion King but I bet its fantastic too. Didn’t realize how much I had missed live theatre
TRUST THE PROCESS! I said the same after my long run on Saturday. It was a 10km run – my first in about 6 weeks and after starting the year with only short runs, I was worried whether I’d manage 10. But I did – trusting the process is so key! Let’s keep trusting the process!
It is not always easy is it!?
