Triathlon season is right around the corner! Early spring is the perfect time to do a Pre-season check list to make sure you are all set to rock that swim, bike and run.
Triathlon Pre-Season To Do List
Swim
-Check you goggle straps for any sign of fraying or wear
-Test out your goggles for any cracks in the lenses. Nothing worse than getting water in your goggles!
-Replace your swim caps
-Check your gear bag to make sure nothing has gone missing (buoys, flippers, paddles)
-If you have not done so already, start thinking about your swim schedule for the season
Bike
I am a fair weather outdoor bike rider and my bike sits in my garage for about 5 months during the winter months so it is important for me to make sure everything is in good shape.
-Bring in your bike for a tune up
-Check your shoe clips for any wear and tear and replace if necessary
-Check your helmet for any signs of cracks or deterioration
-Replace your bike gloves
-Make sure your bike bag contains all items necessary to change a flat tire
I recently did a bike refitting and learned that my handlebars were too wide for my shoulders and that my seat was too far back. Probably explains why my neck was bothering me on longer runs. I am hoping these small tweaks will help me feel more comfortable on the bike.
Run
The least gear intensive part of the race!
-Check your shoes for signs of wear and tear
-Inspect your tri shorts for wear
Not necessary but nice, I like to have a cute new tri suit each season. I am on the hunt if you have seen any cute ones!
Register
-Have you registered for all of your planned races?
-Do you need to book a hotel room?
-Have you picked out a training plan for the season?
What’s on your Tri to do list?

I think the human might need a tune up as well! lol
Deborah Brooks says
ha ha we all do from time to time don’t we!?
[email protected] says
On the contrary, I think the cute new tri suit is actually necessary;)
Deborah Brooks says
Me too actually!
Judy @ Chocolaterunsjudy says
OMG, that tri suit is adorable! I want one & I don’t tri. 🙂
I won’t even tell you how old my swim cap is . . . like decades, maybe? But I just swim for fun/cross training.
Deborah Brooks says
Swimming for fun is great! I do find I need to replace my goggles and cap every season. Cute tri suits are required for sure 🙂
Wendy@Taking the Long Way Home says
My poor bike needs some TLC. After the crash, my handlebar tape came loose and is all stained from the mud I slipped on. There’s mud all over the frame. But it’s still my reliable friend! I do carry stuff for changing a flat but since I don’t know how to do it, it’s kind of a placebo….
Deborah Brooks says
Ok so confession I carry stuff too but couldn’t do it myself either. I have a bike maintenance course on the schedule. Sounds like your bike does need some TLC. I was excited to get new tape and she looks so nice now. Now I just need it to warm up enough to use it! I admire you biking out there in the cold. I can run in the cold but do not like to bike in it
Julie @ Running in a Skirt says
Great list! Your tri suit is kind of adorable!!!! Sounds like a lot of fun! I’ll try it one day 🙂
Deborah Brooks says
I think you’d be great at it!
Michelle @ Lively Chicken says
I admire you and all triathletes so much! I think running is difficult enough. Can’t imagine biking and swimming as well. Sounds like you’re all set for a successful tri season! Good luck!
Deborah Brooks says
Thanks! It’s a lot of fun really and since each sport is shorter it’s great cross training and anyone can do it!
Annmarie says
I don’t have a tri to do list but I do have a race/running to do list! Guess I should get on booking those hotels! Thanks so much for sharing and linking up 🙂
Deborah Brooks says
I was surprised by how quickly some of the race hotels book up!
Nicole @ Fitful Focus says
I’m still so in awe of you and your triathlons!
Deborah Brooks says
They are so much fun you should totally do one
Jen @ Pretty Little Grub says
Maybe one day I’ll get brave enough to conquer swimming and try a triathalon but not yet ha ha.
Deborah Brooks says
The swimming is my least favorite part but they are lots of fun!
Kathryn @ Dancing to Running says
I think new cute outfits are a necessity at the beginning of every new season.
Deborah Brooks says
I totally agree I just needed validation
Artney @ My Pretty Brown Fit says
Great list! For someone who has never done a tri (but is considering one in the future), I would definitely need as many tips I can get. Love your tri suit! 😀
Deborah Brooks says
Thanks glad you found it helpful! Just do it 🙂
Janelle @ Run With No Regrets says
Great tips! I have such admiration for triathletes, I don’t think I could ever do it! I really want to buy a new bike, not sure if it’s in the budget this year though!
Deborah Brooks says
I started with a used bike to see if I would like it. You can find great ones out there
Tricia@MissSippipiddlin says
I don’t tri, I should try to tri but I am sharing this post with a friend who does. In fact as well as she’s taken to tri’ing it just might make me, you know want to try it…. Thanks Deborah! 🙂
Deborah Brooks says
Oh I hope you do! It’s so much fun and a great excuse to buy more gear
Kim Hatting says
yowa! Lots of gear to account for LOL I’ve only done one duathlon, and no tri’s in my (immediate) future, but I do want to conquer that water thing someday 😉 I’m glad I have lots of others to sit back and watch 😉
Deborah Brooks says
I’d like to do a DU this year too if I can find one. Yes very gear intensive for sure
Mary Beth Jackson says
That is a nice list! Good luck with the training season!
Deborah Brooks says
Thanks I am excited for it!
Christina says
A triathlon! You’re incredible 🙂
Deborah Brooks says
They are lots of fun and anyone can do a beginner one!
Sarah says
I’m determined to find a tri without swimming! Maybe with paddle boarding or kayaking instead!
Pinned just in case though.
Deborah Brooks says
Ha ha let me know how that goes! 🙂
Kristy @Runaway Bridal Planner says
Awesome to do list!
I’m not a triathlete (yet) but my sister does them and does a great job in them. Truthfully, running is expensive enough, when I see how much she has to spend on things I cringe. LOL
Oh and that pink and black tri suit OMG probably the cutest I have ever seen. I’ll have to send a link to this for my sister, she doesn’t have nearly that cute of one, and I think she should get something besides just black, LOL
Deborah Brooks says
Gotta have the cute tri suit!
dixya @ food, pleasure, and health says
i am such a bad swimmer..i will never be able to do a triathlon 🙁
Deborah Brooks says
The swim part is the shortest you can do it. Lots of people do them and breaststroke. It’s great to find one in a pool to start with
Autumn @AutumnPTW says
Love it, That suit is awesome! Great tips, looks like you have a great plan. Have a great race!
Deborah Brooks says
Thanks! Gotta have the cute suit!
Coco says
Oh, I didn’t think about handle bars being too wide. I should get mine checked.
Deborah Brooks says
I never thought of that either but it is more comfortable now. I can let you know who I used if you are interested
[email protected] says
Being a Trialthlete can get pretty expensive. I’m glad I chose the cheap activity. Running! Haha. Well not necessarily just bc it doesn’t need extra equipment there are still expenses. Fuel, hydration belts, etc.
Deborah Brooks says
Yes triathlons do require a lot more gear for sure
Jenn says
Posts like these make me want to do a tri. But there’s just so much stuff! Sounds like you are already for tri season and ready to go! I’ll be following along to see how you rock your season!
Deborah Brooks says
Thanks! You should “tri” one
Akaleistar says
That tri suit is so pretty!
Deborah Brooks says
Thanks gotta have the cute gear right?!
Jennifer F says
I’m always so impressed with you Tri girls, it takes so much gear and planning! Hope your season is great!
Deborah Brooks says
It does take lots of planning but so much fun!
Debbie @ Coach Debbie Runs says
I actually have “new” tri suits because I’ve only done 2 triathlons and never really got a chance to wear them out. Especially considering that back when I thought I was going to be a triathlete I sort of stocked up. 🙂
Deborah Brooks says
Sounds like your suits are waiting for you to make a comeback 🙂
Cailee says
I’ve never done a triathlon, but good for you!! And I LOVE the idea of getting a new outfit each time! Yay for fun workout clothes!
xoxo Cailee!
Deborah Brooks says
Fun workout clothes are a must right?!
Sana says
I am so ready to get back on to my bike! I am going to take it in this weekend to get it all checked up!
Deborah Brooks says
OH good you should! Have fun
Montana @ Pretty Lil Mudder says
I’d really like to try a triathlon soon! I feel like I need something to keep me going in the obstacle racing off season- May is my last race and I don’t have another one on schedule until September! Your triathlon suits are so cute!
Deborah Brooks says
I love tri races in the summer bc they allow you to run less mileage but offer you a challenge at the same time. You would be great at it!
marissa says
You’re an inspiration to women like me. After having babies, I never quite got around to making myself fit again. i am pumped up now to start running again!
Deborah Brooks says
That is so sweet really! It takes a while to get your mojo and your body back after having kids. Hope you are enjoying your running
Meesh says
Do you have a fave swim cap? I’ve yet to find one I really like, but am pretty new to the swim game 🙂
Deborah Brooks says
I would not say I have a favorite but I like the TYR silicone caps. Happy swimming
