Ton of Bricks Workout

ton of bricks workout

Doing a 3-5 mile training run or a 15 mile bike ride may get a little boring after a while. I just realized that my next tri race is in 6 weeks! Instead of doing a traditional “brick” workout of a long bike ride and then a run, I’ve decided to switch it up a little. For me, the first mile off of the bike is often the most challenging when my legs feel like jello. This is what I need to practice most. I will be throwing in a couple of these “ton of bricks” workouts over the next 2 months.

These types of workouts are great for increasing your over all fitness and cardio levels whether you are training for a race or looking for a change of pace. Teaching yourself to run on tired legs helps you push through on race day.

About Deborah Brooks

Hi I'm Deborah! I spend my days successfully raising a husband & 2 teens in the VA/DC area. I am a lover of all things running & fitness. As a life long vegetarian, I've always been passionate about healthy living & exercise. Looking for partners in crime, I started my own chapter of Moms Run This Town (MRTT) which has grown to over 700 members. I've met so many amazing women who inspire me daily to keep moving forward. You can usually find me running with my crew and training for the next crazy adventure they talked me into. I love to keep up to date on new running & fitness trends. I definitely choose my running gear based on color and love to express my fashion sense while exercising.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      07/09/2015 at 4:23 pm

  28. JIll @ Champagne for Everyday says

This is a great idea Deborah! I was just reading in an issue of Fitness RX about workout “finishers” and adding some HIIT resistance at the end of any workout, strength or cardio, to blast the remaining life out of you. I’m going to give your cardio version a shot tomorrow since it’s not a weights day! xx

    • Deborah Brooks says

      07/09/2015 at 10:04 pm

I’m going to do it on Friday also let me know how it goes!

    07/10/2015 at 11:03 am

I’m not a biker or a runner at all, but I’ve been trying to add more cardio to my workouts recently. I’ll definitely have to scale this down quite a bit if I decide to give it a go!
    Thanks for sharing 🙂

    • Deborah Brooks says

      07/10/2015 at 11:55 am

You could totally do that by just doing one round to start. you can do it on a stationary bike as well. Hope you give it a tri

  30. Patty @ Reach Your Peak says

    07/13/2015 at 9:26 am
