Whether you are training for a triathlon or just looking to mix up your running or biking routine, this is a great workout to give a “tri”.Challenging yourself to add in a short run after a short bike ride can really bump up the intensity & make it a lot more fun.
Ton of Bricks Workout
Doing a 3-5 mile training run or a 15 mile bike ride may get a little boring after a while. I just realized that my next tri race is in 6 weeks! Instead of doing a traditional “brick” workout of a long bike ride and then a run, I’ve decided to switch it up a little. For me, the first mile off of the bike is often the most challenging when my legs feel like jello. This is what I need to practice most. I will be throwing in a couple of these “ton of bricks” workouts over the next 2 months.
These types of workouts are great for increasing your over all fitness and cardio levels whether you are training for a race or looking for a change of pace. Teaching yourself to run on tired legs helps you push through on race day.
What do you think? Ready to give it a tri?
In all my years doing tris, I’ve never done a workout like this! What a great idea. Thanks for linking up…I enjoy reading you triathlon posts!
Well thanks and thanks for hosting. Hope you give it a tri!
I’ve never done a brick workout. I think I’d have to start with just a few bricks. 😉
It makes it a lot more fun and challenging.
I”m going to try this…I mean tri this!
🙂 I think you will really like it!
HA! I love this workout title! Its-the-best!! Even the title makes me want to “tri” it! 😉 Stay Awesome!

Wow this sounds like a challenge! I like it.
thanks it is challenging!
Oh many, I hated doing bricks during try training. My legs always felt like jelly at the end!
I know so do mine! I think this type of workout really helps you get used to that feeling.
Yes! This time I’ve done more brick workouts than ever for my triathlon, and they have me feeling much more prepared. It’s so fun to mix it up!
It is fun to mix it up and I need to do these every week until my race.
I would definitely like to give this a try in my off season from racing!! Now I just need a bike 🙂
Ha yes that would probably help! 🙂
Oh wow! This looks fierce! Would love to tri it sometime 🙂
It is hard but do able I think you would like it!
What a great idea- I will have to give this workout a tri 😉
I hope you do! I think you would like it
I always feel wobbly after a bike ride. But I may start riding my bike to the gym and then running – so we’ll see how that goes!
Oh good luck with that!
I think this look killer and like something I would do! Now if only I could run or walk ever again.
You will be patient! I know how it is believe me I’ve been there! Hang in there
My legs want to fall off just reading this, and yet I’m so intrigued on how I would do with a workout like this!!
Oh I think you could! You are pretty hardcore!
Sounds tough! I’ve never done a brick workout before. Seems like a great added challenge to a normal routine.
exactly! Hope you give it a tri!
Totally trying this! It looks killer. My Hubs and I just got new road bikes this past weekend, so this a perfect workout to break them in! 🙂
Absolutely! Go for it!
Oh no, do I have to? I HATE Bricks. But this is a great workout.
Everyone hates bricks! 🙂
This looks intense! I don’t even own a bike (thank goodness) when it is time for HH, I am your girl!
I guess you could do it on an indoor bike as well 🙂
This sounds like it would leave me totally dying after just one round!
That’s the point right!?
I’ve never seen a brick done like this! I think it’s a great idea. Hopefully each time you switch from cycling to running your legs adapt just a little bit more.
Yes exactly! Hope you give it a tri! 🙂
I’ve never done a brick workout but it sounds like a challenge! I will have to give it a try! Thanks for sharing!
Hope you do it is fun to mix it up!
Bricks are hard, but it feel so good during the race! Nice workout!!
They are hard!
This looks craaaazy tough! I think I could only handle a few bricks at first 😉
You are young and fit you got this!!
This looks like a great workout!! Thanks for sharing!!
It is fun to mix it up!
This is an interesting workout, I don’t do tris yet but I still want to try this!
It’s great to mix up your running routine once in a while
Repeat 3-5 times… In a row or in a week? LOL That sounds so intense!
It is but you can do it! Give it a tri
I will be around a bike this weekend, so might try this out. I always wondered, why is it called a Brick workout ?
Oh you will find out! Your legs will feel like bricks 🙂
This is a great idea Deborah! I was just reading in an issue of Fitness RX about workout “finishers” and adding some HIIT resistance at the end of any workout, strength or cardio, to blast the remaining life out of you. I’m going to give your cardio version a shot tomorrow since it’s not a weights day! xx
I’m going to do it on Friday also let me know how it goes!
I’m not a biker or a runner at all, but I’ve been trying to add more cardio to my workouts recently. I’ll definitely have to scale this down quite a bit if I decide to give it a go!
Thanks for sharing 🙂
You could totally do that by just doing one round to start. you can do it on a stationary bike as well. Hope you give it a tri
Am not doing a tri anytime soon but do want to try this workout! Sounds killer! I’ve tried biking in the gym after the treadmill and my legs are just total jelly haha
We did it the other day and it was hard but I felt like a rock star afterwards. 🙂
