Wow I can’t believe it is March already! Welcome to the Ultimate Coffee Date! We had so many new friends join last month and I hope we have even more this time. Please join Coco, Lynda and me to sit down, catch up and dish about anything that’s going on in your life. Grab your coffee or tea and pull up a chair, stay awhile….
If we were having coffee, I would tell you… I just got back from a fabulous week in The Caribbean with my husband. In case you missed all of my IG photos, we had a few days in St. Thomas, St. Barts, Jost Van Dyke and San Juan. It was so nice to be away alone together for a few days and even better to be in the warm sun. Oh did I miss the warm sun. Sometimes you just need to feel the sand between your toes.
If we were having coffee, I would tell you…I thought for sure I would come back to a Springtime Washington but obviously that’s not the case with another 8 inches of snow falling yesterday and freezing temps today. What happened to Global Warming? Just saying!
If we were having coffee, I would tell you…This weekend is our 2nd Birthday party for our Moms Run This Town group. I can’t even begin to tell you how grateful I am that I started our chapter on a whim. We’ve grown to almost 500 strong. You’ve heard me gush about all the amazing friends I’ve made and how much these women have inspired me and I honestly don’t know what I would do without them all.
If we were having coffee, I would tell you…my baby girl is turning 18 in a few weeks. How in the world did that happen? She’s grown into such a smart, beautiful, funny and kind young woman. I’m so proud of her. She will be attending Indiana University this fall and we are headed up to visit the campus tomorrow. It’s all a little surreal right now.
If we were having coffee, I would tell you…I haven’t been able to run too much the last few months. This Plantar Fasciitus has been so hard to heal (pun intended). I never realized how painful this could be and how long it could take to heal. Sure I’ve been doing lots of spin, swim and weight training but it’s not the same as running. This week I think I’ve finally turned the corner and I am going to be slowly adding the miles back in. Which leads me to..
If we were having coffee, I would tell you…I will not be running the DC Rock n Roll half next weekend and for the 2nd year in a row I will be a DNS. I honestly don’t think that race is meant to be for me. It would have been pretty hard to train for with the winter we had because I hate the long treadmill runs. Even so, I so wanted to be there running it with my closest friends. Ok done feeling sorry for myself.
If we were having coffee, I would tell you..What I will be doing the next few weeks is working as hard as I can to recover and get those miles up because my friends and I are headed to Cape Cod in 8 weeks to run another Ragnar race and I couldn’t be more excited!
Laura@ Fit Running Mama says
OH my your vacation looks AMAZING!!! Happy to be back at the party! If we were having coffee I would catch you up on life with the little one 🙂
Deborah Brooks says
It was amazing! Glad to see you and the kiddos are doing well. Thanks for joining us!
Lara @ Uptite Mamas says
Your vacation pictures look amazing. I am dreaming of sun and sand right now!! My husband is running Cape Ragnar. Is it really only 6 weeks away?? Thanks for the coffee date link up!!
Deborah Brooks says
I think it’s 8 weeks away. I am so nervous about it bc I haven’t been running. oh well! What’s the worst that can happen LOL!
Mary Beth Jackson says
Sounds like an exciting trip to Indiana! That is where I am from and I toured that school as well but you know, sunshine and boys in shorts kept me right here in the sunshine state and I am proud to be a Gator! Soak up all that Mom fun! Your vaca- looks marvelous and I am sure the hubby enjoyed it too! I can’t wait to see all the fun things for March! To bad about the R n R race but slow and steady is the theme here too! Have a great weekend my friend!
Deborah Brooks says
Thanks! I know slow and steady but sometimes that is annoying and frustrating! 🙂
Lisa @ Lisa Runs for Cupcakes says
There is no way you are old enough to have an 18 year old! Hello fountain of youth 😉 I am heading on a vacation (sans kiddo) in a few weeks. Your photos have me even more eager to sink my toes in some sand!
Deborah Brooks says
Aw thanks! I am going to start telling people she is my hubs kid from another marriage haha but she looks just like me! Enjoy your vacay too!
Diatta @ Femme Fitale Fit Club says
I so love the caribbean and want to GO there now to get away from the snow. I hope you recover soon and don’t kids grow up so fast? My daughter is 12 going on 13 but I still reminisce on her baby pictures just about every weekend now. LOL! I can’t wait to read about your Ragnar. Have fun and Cape Cod is gorgeous.
Deborah Brooks says
Yes they do grow up too fast! Cape cod will be great what’s the worst that can happen by not training for a relay race that is 36 hours long?! LOL
Kelli says
Can’t believe you have an 18 year old! You look too young for that!! Your Caribbean vacay sounds awesome – where the white powdery stuff is sand! You went on a cruise, I assume, based upon the destinations? Sending healing thoughts your way. It is no fun being sidelined. I am sure you have kept your aerobic fitness intact with all of your cross training. You’ll return to top form quickly.
Deborah Brooks says
oh thanks! Yep 18 years old! Crazy. I am keeping up my fitness but not running is getting kind of old even with this weather. Come backs are great though!
Sue @ This Mama Runs for Cupcakes says
I was so jealous seeing all of your pics from your trip! Glad you had a great time! Congrats to your daughter, she must be so excited…how are YOU handling it? 🙂
Deborah Brooks says
You know it’s tough to think she will be leaving me soon but trying not to go there yet!
Heather says
The Carribbean would be so great right now 🙂 I feel you about the weather. Here in Tennessee it’s going nuts. Last week we had 3 days of highs in the 60s followed by 2 days of highs in the 20s and some ice. I am ready for spring. I’m sorry about your plantar fasciitis. I had that a couple of years ago and it took forever to get back on my feet.
Deborah Brooks says
The PF is a real pain in the butt for sure but I think I’ve turned the corner! Thanks
Lisa says
Your vacation photos look gorgeous! I wish my feet were in the sand right now, but that will have to wait for another month. The weather this winter has been so crazy all over the place.
Deborah Brooks says
We have had the worst weather this winter huh? Spring has to come sometime right!
Michelle @ Running with Attitude says
Glad you had a great time! I love cruises! Also good to hear you’re going to start running again – it’s a bummer about RnR DC but how fun that you have Ragnar to look forward too! Great to catch up – have a great weekend!
Deborah Brooks says
Thanks yes no sense looking back!
Amy @ Mama Running for God says
Love your vacation photos. I’m so jealous. I’m over here freezing in Iowa! I am glad it’s 33 here today, and yet you’re sharing photos like that..of toes in the sand. I need to feel the sand between my toes! This was my first time linking up, it’s been so fun!
Deborah Brooks says
So glad you did I love the coffee dates!
Courtney @ Eat Pray Run DC says
love your vacay pics – sorry you had to come back to this! ugh. congrats to your daughter – she is so sweet and i know she will have an awesome college experience. hope your trip up there is awesome! thanks for hosting!
Deborah Brooks says
Thanks for joining! I love these posts
Melanie Serauskis says
I love that you had a birthday party for your MRTT group!! Looks like so much fun, and that cake is awesome!!
Deborah Brooks says
One of our admins made the cake it was great! I love our group and can’t believe how we’ve grown.
MCM Mama Runs says
I’m a Wisconsin girl and I like winter, but I’m all.done.
I need you to heal – we need to run together. Sorry I missed the party – Friday’s just don’t work of rme.
Deborah Brooks says
Thanks! I am doing better and I hope to be back out there running with you all soon. I am totally done with winter too!
Safari says
Time away with just you and the hubby in AWESOME weather?!?!? So jealous!! Sorry to hear about the heal…but sounds like you will be stronger once you’re all better. I would love to do more strength training…i’m sorry…did I say “more”?!?! I meant, I would love to do SOME strength training but often running gets in the way…that’s my story and I’m sticking to it. 😉
Deborah Brooks says
ha yes strength training is important and I really think I am better at it than I am at running. Time alone was amazing!
Karen @ Fit in France says
Hi Deborah. So happy you had a wonderful vacation. Sun does so much good to the mood in the winter. Sorry about your foot… I know how frustrating that can be. Hang in there !
Are you going to be an empty nester next year ? That scares me…. it could happen in a few years and I just can not believe how fast they grow up.
Deborah Brooks says
Not quite yet my son is 14 but then I have no idea what I will do!!
Kim says
So cool that you had a nice vacation to a warm beach with your husband!!!
Exciting to visit a college with your daughter – we still have a couple years before we send our oldest off.
I would say that I loved every second of our 72 degree day today – it was such a nice break from the cold!!!
Deborah Brooks says
72 is the perfect temp isn’t it!!
Natalie says
Ooooh! Your get away looks incredible!! What a way to recharge!
Your daughter is so pretty and NO WAY you have a daughter old enough to go to college…. WOW.
I know injuries are so hard. Hang in there!! You have such a positive attitude 🙂
Glad you are turning a corner. Ragnar is going to be so fun!!
If we were having coffee, I would tell you that my son turned eight today and I am just in disbelief. I feel like he was just born…
Deborah Brooks says
They grow up so so fast!! And thanks I think she’s beautiful too!
Erica @ erica finds says
Wow – I am #38. I am going to need a bigger mug! Thank you for the opportunity to link up!
Your trip looks amazing! I was in DC Wed – Fri last week and they do not know how to handle snow! LOL. Your trip looks awesome. I would need more details to soak up the sun from you. Sorry about the DNS. R & R races are not my fave anyway.
Deborah Brooks says
Sorry I missed you in DC let me know if you come into town again and we can meet for real coffee.
Janelle @ Run With No Regrets says
Love that cake! Congrats on your running group anniversary! I hope you recover from PF soon…the Ragnar looks like such a great experience!
Deborah Brooks says

Farrah says
I really want warm, sunny skies + beaches in my life right now. *-*
That’s so awesome that you have so many people in your running group!
+ happy early birthday to your daughter! 😀 Wishing her the best in college! It should be a lot of fun! :]
Deborah Brooks says
Thanks and yea to all of the above. Have a great day
Jennifer says
Loved all your vacation pictures. Congrats to you daughter – I would have never guessed you had an 18 year old 🙂
Deborah Brooks says
Aw sweet! It’s hard to believe it myself
Akaleistar says
A trip to the Caribbean sounds lovely! Hopefully spring will come soon 🙂
Deborah Brooks says
Wow I sure hope so!!
Coco (@Got2Run4Me) says
Thanks for a great coffee date! Sorry about your RNR DNS but excited for you for Ragnar!
Deborah Brooks says
Awesome coffee date indeed!!
Kristen says
Blue skies and beaches… I’m so jealous! We’re finally supposed to hit the mid 40’s here this week so I’m hoping that means spring is officially on it’s way.
Sorry about your DNS. I always think that the Ragnar type races look like so much fun, but I know that my health stuff wouldn’t cooperate so those just aren’t for me. Have fun on the Cape!
Deborah Brooks says
Thanks! We are supposed to warm up this week too which should be very nice. DNS is never good but it happens
Julie @ Running in a Skirt says
What a bummer about the race. I totally feel your pain because I’ve been in that place where I’ve had to cancel. Sorry you are going through this.
Deborah Brooks says
Thanks friend! Happens to all of us at some point. I know there will always be another race to do
Lynda@fitnessmomwinecountry says
We want to travel to the Caribbean so badly, however the air fare alone from California to the East coast for the 4 of us is nuts. What a dream vacation. We are trying for Maui this summer. Our youngest just turned 13 and my only girl. WOW, what a difference in the attitude compared to having boys …yikes 🙂
Deborah Brooks says
Oh yes very different indeed. Living in CA you may not feel the need to escape your weather as much as we do!!
Nicole @ Fitful Focus says
Vacation looks glorious! I think Spring is FINALLY on the way now, so hopefully you’ll be back to sunshine soon! So sorry you have to miss out on the RNR race again – one day it will be!
Deborah Brooks says
Yes I know always another race to right?!
Emily @ Out and About says
Thanks again for co-hosting the coffee date, I am loving reading all the link-ups!
Ahhh, the Caribbean. The color of the water in those photos is just breathtaking. It must have been tough to come back from that vacation – but welcome back!
So bummed to hear that you won’t be running RnR DC this weekend. However, I think you are very smart to not push things with your PF. I’ve definitely learned the hard way that it’s not worth the risk to start training before things have fulled healed. I wish you a speedy recovery!
Deborah Brooks says
Thanks! It is always hard to miss a race but there is always another one! I love the coffee dates too
Amy @ Life to the Full says
I love the idea of a coffee date link-up! I just may have to join in future weeks 🙂
WOW. Love the beach pictures!!! Hope you had a wonderful vacation! So awesome that you have a solid group with “Moms Run This Town”. I’ve heard of it before but we don’t have one in my area – that means I should get my tail in gear and start one perhaps… Happy birthday to your daughter!
Deborah Brooks says
Ok yea do join the coffee date next month. It’s lots of fun to write and read others. You should start your own MRTT. I’m happy to help you in any way. Let me know!!
Montana @ Pretty Lil Mudder says
I’m a little late and catching up on blogging comments because I haven’t had internet for the last week of vacation! Anyway, Happy Birthday to your daughter! It’s always crazy when people reach the milestone birthdays. My mom recently had her “revelation” that I would be 30, my brother 25 and my other brother 16 next year. She’s in shock haha.
I totally understand needing a little RnR and especially with the weather where you’re from! I can’t imagine having so much winter like that. It’s been rainy and chilly while I’ve been on vacation, but I enjoyed spending some time indoors and relaxing this week. I hope you enjoyed your vacation!
I’m sorry you can’t run the RnR race. I had to pull out of a race I really wanted due to injury, so I get how that feels. Maybe next year? Third time is a charm right?
Deborah Brooks says
yes I guess 3rd time will be the charm or maybe that race isn’t meant to be for me. I was feeling sorry for myself so I just signed up for a tri 🙂
