Thanks for taking the time away from your Black Friday shopping to pop in and read my Thanksgiving Runfessions 2023. Thanks for Marcia for hosting.
Thanksgiving Runfessions 2023
I Thanksgiving Runfess…
I have always despised everything that The Bachelor and Bachelorette stood for. However, I could not help myself and started watching the Golden Bachelor. Seeing people in their 60’s and 70’s finding love and companionship again seems so sweet to me. I thought the bachelor, Gerry, was so kind and down to earth. There was much less back stabbing between the women and it looks like they really became friends. Now that it’s down to the last 2 women, it feels a little icky again but I can’t wait to see who he picks! I just never understood how he can tell 2 women in the same day that he loves them. But, what do I know!? Anyone else watching it? Why am I watching it??
I Thanksgiving Runfess…
I found a few good sales early on for things I was looking at but I have no idea what to get my besties this year for gifts. Maybe something from my own gift list? My kids have no idea what they want so I still have lots of shopping to do in the next few weeks. Also, have no idea what to get my parents! My own gift list is not proving helpful for them.
I Thanksgiving Runfess…
My favorite part of Thanksgiving is being together again with my kids in our cozy nest. It is so hard to let them go off on their own but at the same time, knowing that means we raised them well. For this week, I am just going to snuggle them close and enjoy our time together.
And with that, I am off to clean up the rest of the dishes from last night. Hope you and yours had a very Happy Thanksgiving. See you next week for the Ultimate Coffee Date.

My friend has a high school friend who was a contestant. I may have to go back and when the episodes on demand.
I agree that it’s nice to see your children grown up and on their own but spend time with them.
I only saw one stepson. The other had thanksgiving with his gurl friend

It is fabulous to have them home but so hard to let them go!
They are on demand on Hulu now if you have that

Yes, the best thing about Thanksgiving is having the kids home! I’m feeling melancholy today because my son leaves tomorrow…. but I just have to remind myself he’ll be back in three weeks.
My kids also have not told me what they want for Christmas so I haven’t started any shopping yet. Eek! I have to keep reminding myself that there’s plenty of time.
I haven’t watched The Golden Bachelor and I don’t like the looks of that guy! The whole thing seems very contrived to me, but I get how you can be drawn in- I watched the regular Bachelor years ago (then I had to cut myself off, because as you said, it just felt kind of icky.)
I hope you had a great Thanksgiving!
Deborah Brooks says
Oh I really kind of think Gerry looks like a nice guy! Anyway, I am all for people finding love again.
It is so hard to let the kids go after they are home. I will see mine in a few weeks too

I don’t think I’ll ever have both my kids home for Thanksgiving — too much tension over the menu with my carnivore son and vegan daughter — but it was great having my mom over for the first time since her accident in March!
It’s way too soon for holiday shopping — at least I don’t have any ideas yet. Let me know what you come up with!
Deborah Brooks says
Thanksgiving is our big holiday and I always look forward to having everyone. We do a bunch of meat/turkey and also a bunch of sides so everyone leaves full.
I do need to get my holiday shopping done bc we are going away soon which really snuck up on me this year!
Cari says
Yay snuggling them close.
I think with the world so broken – in myriad ways — we need to enjoy what makes us happy. Trash mysteries, reality TV. It’s all OK if it makes us smile.
I hate forced time gift exchanging. It’s so hard to know in the moment whereas other times of year I find all the things for folks. Also, I don’t need anything.
Deborah Brooks says
Snuggling as we speak! 🙂

I haven’t watched the Golden Bachelor at all but I’ve heard good things. Isn’t it so nice to have everyone together under one roof? I am cherishing our time together as well!
Deborah Brooks says
yes, I am holding them all close for one more day

I have not ever watched any of the bachelor/bachelorette shows, including the “golden” edition. I’d be curious to see how different this one is from the other younger versions. Things certainly different in this day and age, and the dating scene is MUCH different for peeps our age, LOL. I only had the son for Thanksgiving this year (the oldest daughter went to see her little sis in Charlotte), but we still had a nice time with my parents and sister. Hard to be we’re in full-on holiday season now!
Deborah Brooks says
I am glad you had a great Thanksgiving. Yes, dating has changed a lot and that’s a good thing

So glad to find someone else that also watches The Golden Bachelor! I’ve never watched a season of the regular bachelor, but wanted to support this one because I thought it was so cool to have an older bachelor. This season has been so good and I hope they do a golden bachelorette show next!
Deborah Brooks says
I thought it was sweet as well and I hope it ends well for them. I will feel bad for the one that gets let go at the end

Yes, seeing your adult kids spread their wings does mean you’ve done your job! But they will always come back to the nest (for a while).
Reality TV doesn’t interest me — especially since I know most of it is scripted! Although I do wonder how people could have their love life, so to speak, broadcast to millions of people!
Deborah Brooks says
I could surely never do a show like that!
Jenn says
I have never watched The Bachelor (and hilariously, a Bachelor commercial just came on while I was writing it). I just don’t love reality TV (ok, maybe Below Deck, but even then, not so much).
I am so glad you had a wonderful holiday with all your loved ones and a full heart!
Deborah Brooks says
I really do not like reality tv either at all! Somehow, I got sucked into this one
