Happy Friday Friends! While winter has it’s own challenges (hello dry skin), the summer heat and humidity can wreak havoc on an active girl’s hair and skin as well. While I am no expert, I do have a few tried & true Summer Hair & Skin Care Tips to share with you today.
I am embarrassed to admit, that up until recently, I did give too much thought to sunscreen and really loved my bronzed looking skin. Enter the mid 40’s with sunspots and wrinkles and pre cancerous spots and I have (almost) completely changed my tune. Spending so much time running, biking and swimming outside can not only damage your skin but leave it looking not so youthful. These 2 Supergoop products are my must haves for summer sports.
Supergoop Mineral Sunscreen (SPF 40)
This is by far the best facial sunscreen I have ever used. In the past, I’ve tried to wear other brands and when I sweat they would drip down stinging my eyes. Not good! I apply this to my face about 20 minutes before I run and I’ve never had that problem. It stays put and is easy to rub in.
SuperGoop Mint Fusion Lip Balm (SPF 30)
It’s easy to forget to protect your lips as well. After having such good luck with the Mineral Sunscreen, I was excited to find this lip balm. It’s very light and yet keeps my lips super soft while protecting them.
Hair-Taking care of your hair is challenging even in the best conditions! All of the swimming can really take the color and shine right out of your hair. Before every swim, I wet my hair and then apply conditioner to it before putting on my swim cap. Not only does the conditioner help to keep the chlorine out of your hair, it also helps to keep it from getting all tangled up. Any conditioner will do and I just keep those travel sized bottles in my swim bag.
Feet
From running, to going to the pool, and all of the barefoot summer activities, my feet can get really gross if I don’t take care of them. I have a system that I use all year around. Putting a big heap of Aquafor on my feet before bed and then sleeping in my Balega socks helps to keep the rough spots at bay.
Speaking of Balega socks, they have been my go for years. They never give me blisters, slip around or chafe. The quality is amazing and they last forever.
Those are a few of my go Summer Hair & Skin Care Tips. What tips do you have to share with me?

I really don’t like sleeping with socks on, but thats actually a really good idea. My feet have been a mess lately! (its also time for a pedicure)
Deborah Brooks says
I do get regular pedis as well which really help. You might try the aquafor w the socks for a few hours and see how that helps
Susie @ Suzlyfe says
I sunscreen my hair and wear hats!
Deborah Brooks says
I’ve been wearing my visors this summer to help protect my face but still not loving them
Zenaida Arroyo says
Love the idea of the socks and Aquaphor. After every shower I apply lotion to my feet. For some weird reason I cannot sleep in socks.
I use Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Stick for my face. I like it because I don’t have to apply it with my hands.
Deborah Brooks says
Yes lotion on the feet is key for me. Even when it’s hot I have to wear socks to sleep
Megan @ Meg Go Run says
For the past year or two, I have been putting sunscreen on my face and wearing a visor on my runs. But I will be honest… I don’t wear sunscreen on my body. 🙁 I know I should, I just look so much better tan! I don’t lay out and tan, I just accumulate some color via running and yard work. However, I know it doesn’t matter how I accumulate the tan, it’s still skin damage. I need to wear sunscreen all the time. Ugh. Should I start next summer? No, I should start now…
Deborah Brooks says
I know I am right there with you. My Dr yells at me all the time. Now that I am in my mid 40’s I can see all the sun damage starting to come out. It’s a dilemma!!
Mary Beth Jackson says
Don’t forget the ears! I am loving the companies that make clothing with UPF50 factor in them, I think every little bit helps! I also like to run some conditioner thru my hair before I run, long hair needs love!
Deborah Brooks says
I never thought of putting conditioner on for runs but why not?!
Judy @ Chocolaterunsjudy says
I’m very fair, so I’ve been pretty good about sunscreen for years. I still get tan, unfortunately (although compared to most people even tan I look pretty white!) but I don’t usually burn.
I’ve been using COOLA sunscreen because no yucky white residue. I did get into the whole conditioner on the hair before swimming thing a while ago — if I remember!
It definitely makes a difference.
Deborah Brooks says
I will have to check out the COOLA as well I have not tried that. Yes I do still get tan even with sunscreen
Debbie @ Coach Debbie Runs says
I should try the Aquaphor tip. My feet are, well, not always as pretty as I’d like. 🤣
Deborah Brooks says
Oh I hear you! The aquafor really helps
Amanda @ Cupcake N Dreams says
I’ve started to use a lip balm with sunscreen when I’m out on the beach or lake for the day. I’m worried that spots are popping up there. Great tips!
Amanda @ Cupcake N Dreams
Deborah Brooks says
I know this getting older is not good!
Cyndi says
These are nice reminders. I don’t run without a hat and sunblock on my face and lips. I need to do a better job with sunblock on the rest of my body! My heels get soo dry. I do put lotion and socks on before bed but not consistently.
Deborah Brooks says
Try the aquafor it’s great
Susan @ Culinary Envy says
I am going to order the mint lip balm and those cooling socks immediately! I felt my body temperature go down 5° just reading about them! Thanks for sharing!
Deborah Brooks says
Oh great hope you enjoy them
Lacey@fairytalesandfitness says
I always use sunscreen on my face but I am not always faithful putting it on my body. I recently just got a facial and my face is so smooth, so I hope to keep it that way.
Deborah Brooks says
Ah I could use a facial myself!
Lesley says
I find summer to be challenging, and since I’m running again after my break, I’ve found zits under my hair where I sweat. I don’t know how I’m supposed to get zit cream on those.
Deborah Brooks says
hmm not sure about that but maybe try to wash your hair as soon as you can after sweating
Abbey Sharp says
Awesome tips! Will surely pass along to my runner friends! Thanks!
Deborah Brooks says
Thanks have a great weekend
Karen Bayne says
I love Balega as well, I wear the ultra light right now and they feel amazing! The conditioner tip is smart 🙂 I use Redken oil on my dry hair in summer to help the ends, the humidity really makes my hair fuzz.
Deborah Brooks says
Oh my hair is a fizzy mess!
Lindsay @ Fit & Awesome says
Great tips! I feel you on gross feet. I have started a new nightly ritual of washing my feet before bedtime because summertime.
Deborah Brooks says
That’s a good idea too!
Ana says
Thank you for highlighting the importance of sunblock! It is a pain to put on and to wash it off, but it is so important for out skin health!
I am going to check out the lip balm you suggested !
Deborah Brooks says
The lip balm does not disappoint!
Kimberly Hatting says
I love Aquaphor! I have used it for years ,even as a moisturizer (many years ago when I had a terrible allergic reaction to drywall dust–from an extensive remodel project–and nothing else would work for my skin without burning).
Deborah Brooks says
OH that’s a great idea to remember too. It’s very useful
Nicole @ Fitful Focus says
I’ve been going through sunblock like crazy living in Texas. I burn easily, so that’s my biggest reason to wear it but anti-aging is a good benefit, too! I do need to give my feet some more love, though!
Deborah Brooks says
The feet in the summer can always use more love!
Rachel says
I’ve started wearing sunblock, too. I never did before. But it’s totally not worth the risk.
Wendy@Taking the Long Way Home says
Aquaphor is what I recommend to all my babies who have eczema. Good stuff!
I’ve fallen for Injini. Idk if it’s my RA or what, but I sure like the toes having their own little homes.
Carmy @ carmyy.com says
I always slather on a ton of sunscreen!
Deborah Brooks says
It’s a good thing!
Michelle @ Running with Attitude says
I need to try the Aquaphor with socks – my feet are looking a little beat up! :0
Deborah Brooks says
It happens to all of us try it really works well
Emily | EmPowered Nutrition says
Great tips! My feet definitely take a toll in the summer time. I’ll need to get some Aquafor!
Deborah Brooks says
It really does wonders!
Mary @ Fit and Fed says
SPF lip balm is a good idea, I should get some! I’ve been good about sun lotion forever– a necessity with my reddish hair and freckles– but just last week my lips got so burned on a three day kayak trip that they swelled. And I have big lips in the first place! I looked like I’d had a bad lip injection. Next time I will be more careful!
Deborah Brooks says
I used to forget about my lips as well-ouch
The Accidental Marathoner says
I am horrible about sunscreen…and I will just leave it at that! My hair also gets fried in the summer sun, so I will often coat it in coconut oil or even my favorite conditioner before I go out for a long run. Works like a charm!
Deborah Brooks says
Great idea as well!
Emily @ Pizza & Pull-ups says
I do the same thing for my feet except I usually use coconut oil or shea butter. I will have to look for the sunscreen, my current one always gets in my eyes and stings once I start sweating.
Deborah Brooks says
I hate when it stings my eyes just makes me not want to use it
Esther says
Great info! I need to get me some aquaphor for my dry feet! All the activity and spending hours at the pool are taking its toll.
Deborah Brooks says
It really works!
Jill Conyers says
No tips to share but I need to try Aquaphor on my feet. Thanks!
Deborah Brooks says
It really works!
Natalie says
I know exactly what you mean. I used to love sun and bronze skin. Now my skin is so sensitive; I have to use high factor sunscreens that I hate. Thanks for the tips. Love the socks. They look so comfy.
Deborah Brooks says
Thanks and yes the socks are great
Kathleen Calado says
I take care of my feet daily since it’s one of the most used body part. I don’t sleep with my socks on as well I just don’t feel comfortable. Anyways, thanks for sharing this with us Deborah!
