Summer Bucket List-Fitness and Family

Summer came roaring in this week with a vengeance here in the DC area. Hazy, hot and humid that’s what we have for the next few months. While those weather conditions are not my favorite, they won’t stop me from making my Summer Bucket List. There are definitely a few things I hope to do this summer.

Summer Bucket List -Fitness and Family

Destination Race: Chicago Rock n Roll weekend here I come. I have not been to Chicago in over 20 years! So when I heard that some of the blogger crew were meeting up, I jumped on the chance to meet them all in person. Plus, Rock n Roll races are always a blast.

summer bucket list

Kayaking: Paddling around the Potomac River is such a blast and I have no idea why I don’t do it more often. Making plans to go with friends next week.

Weekly Wrap Nantucket| Summer Bucket List

More tri races: I have one more tri on my schedule in 3 weeks but I am not sure I can let the summer slip by without adding another one in. The season is so short here and I feel I have to take advantage of it.

Family time: I plan to embrace as much family time as possible this summer. Both of my kids will be leaving in 2 months for college and we will be empty nesters. I may still be in a denial a bit of this whole thing but in the mean time, they all might get sick of me hanging around all summer.

Summer bucket list

New hobbies: I feel like I should come up with some new hobbies to keep me busy in the fall when I will have more to time to fill my day. Not sure what though. Any ideas?

Clear off my nightstand: I have a large pile of books waiting to be read on my nightstand. Now to just find time to sit down and get through them.

What’s on your summer bucket list? Anything I should add to mine?

About Deborah Brooks

Hi I'm Deborah! I spend my days successfully raising a husband & 2 teens in the VA/DC area. I am a lover of all things running & fitness. As a life long vegetarian, I've always been passionate about healthy living & exercise. Looking for partners in crime, I started my own chapter of Moms Run This Town (MRTT) which has grown to over 700 members. I've met so many amazing women who inspire me daily to keep moving forward. You can usually find me running with my crew and training for the next crazy adventure they talked me into. I love to keep up to date on new running & fitness trends. I definitely choose my running gear based on color and love to express my fashion sense while exercising.

I’ve heard great things about the Chicago Rock n’ Roll race!! It should be a blast for you.

Kayaking sounds like something I need to add to my summer bucket list.

I need to figure out exactly what I have going on this summer! My schedule is pretty loose at this point–a couple of Cubs games, a trip to California (for the Napa to Sonoma Half), and a little bit of business travel. My eldest two sons have been out of the house for a couple of years. My youngest will be a senior in college in the fall. It goes fast! You will be surprised to find you don’t have as much free time when they’re gone as you might think!

That’s what I hear but at the moment I am still kind of sad about everyone leaving

Chicago sounds like fun. Summer races aren’t my thing, but I do enjoy summer itself. I miss the days when I had the whole season off from school.

Summer bucket list: spend as much time with my sons as possible! Meet up with some really fun bloggers in July at RnR. Go waterskiing with Holly. Kayaking with my HS gal pals. Spend time up north with my parents. Run. Bike.

I cannot wait to meet you!!

I need to clear off more than a nightstand! Lol Geez, I’m getting serious FOMO over this Chicago race. I have really tried to make this trip happen but I just don’t think I can swing it. You guys are going to have soooo much fun!

  11. Kimberly Hatting says

    06/20/2018 at 12:33 pm

Oh gosh…my nightstand looks like a tornado came through…books, magazines, nail polish (?). It needs an overhaul. And, Chicago! I am so excited to finally meet my favorite chef in person 😉

New hobby….how about knitting? I can give you a free tutorial at the W

I still need to make my summer bucket list. Just finished the family vacation and my kids leave for camp tomorrow. EEEEK.

If you have a moment read my latest post. I really would love your feedback. It’s about parkruns I think you guys have one in DC. We don’t have any in Miami. I went all the way to London to run one. Maybe a touch excessive. lol.

Sounds like good plans to me, especially enjoying the time with your family before the kids head off to college. I wish I was going to Chicago. You are all going to have so much fun! I do have some fitness courses I want to finish up. They are all home study, but I need to find time to read the books! I got through the Revo2lution Running Coaching course, so now I’d better get going on my TRX course and Myofascial Release courses.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      06/20/2018 at 8:17 pm

You do keep yourself busy with all of your training! We will miss you in Chicago for sure. One of these days we will have to meet up IRL

Kayaking is the best and I can’t believe your kids will both be off to college! Crazy.
    Loved your Italy pics.

I guess I’ve always been an empty nester. 🙂 I rarely have trouble finding things to fill my time, though (dogs will do that for ya — maybe you need a dog, LOL).

We have been waiting, waiting, waiting for our vacation. We’re still waiting but now it’s coming up quickly and it’s time to get cracking on getting ready for it!

Are you going solo to Chicago or as a family?

    • Deborah Brooks says

      06/21/2018 at 2:43 pm

I am going to Chicago by myself! I hope you have a fantastic vacation-look forward to reading all about it. I am sure I will get into a new routine once the kids leave but it has not quite sunk in yet

  22. JENN says

    06/21/2018 at 5:58 pm

Aw, so many fun things! Kayaking is the best – I had never been until last year (I always hated canoeing and thought it would be the same), and absolutely loved it.

Our summer bucket list is so full of things! I can’t even narrow it down to a few! We have been having so much fun doing day trips, playing tourist at home, visiting different donut and ice cream places and doing all kinds of activities. It’s been the best!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      06/21/2018 at 8:23 pm

you all are always doing fun family stuff!
