Thanks for joining Kim and me for the weekly run down today. I decided “suck it up and get it done” was going to be the theme of my week and I am sticking to it. With our highs more in 88 ish degree range this week instead of the 90’s, I may have a chance! Here is a peek into my week of fitness.
Suck it up and get it done
This week marks the start of another round of the Team Wilpers Run Challenge. As you might remember, I loved the winter and spring challenges and credit the training with helping me to achieve a number of PR’s in my spring races. While it is no secret that I hate summer running, this challenge will motivate me and keep me accountable. So here goes!
Monday- 5 mile run + 1 mile walk into Georgetown + barre + stretch
Our annual MRTT 4th of July run into Georgetown (Washington, DC) is back. We were gifted with a lower humidity morning which made this runner very happy and made running feel easy again. We ran + walked a mile (about 6 miles total) into DC stopping at the sign for a photo and then onto coffee/iced tea.
A great way to kick off the 4th. We jumped into an Uber to head home. Running on a Monday kind of threw me off schedule but we make it work!
Tuesday- upper + lower body strength + core + Peloton cycle + barre + stretch
My run schedule got a little messed up this week with the 4th of July run on a Monday. So, I have an extra day in between runs this week. My Tuesday workout had a lot of heavy strength work knowing I would not be running Wednesday.
Wednesday- barre + double core+ upper body + Peloton cycle
I have to say, I am loving starting my strength days with the Peloton barre classes. I just finished week 3 of Tunde’s new arms program. More to come on that.
It may be lost cause to try to adapt to the heat. Somehow, I went backward!
Thursday- 5.5 mile Threshold run + core + stretch
This was a “suck it up and get it done” run! With humidity levels at 93%, it was tough going out there. My saving grace was that it was super cloudy so the sun was not beating down on me. Once I found my threshold pace and settled in, it was not too terrible. I went through all of my SIS hydration in 50 minutes.
Friday- core + upper & lower body strength + barre
Keeping up my daily barre classes. See here for why I have come to love them. My upper & lower body strength classes were spicy today so I stopped after that.
Saturday- rest day vibes + stretch + 10 m barre
Rest day for me. It was a heavy rain day here all day and a good day for taking it easy.
Sunday-on the plan 6 mile run
Looks like it might be another muggy one. We will just suck it up and get it done!
Kimberly Hatting says
Iowa was a “mug fest” in terms of the heat & humidity last week, too. Yes, we suck-it-up up & get it done, regardless:-) I’m starting to love the barre classes, too!
Deborah Brooks says
ah great! another convert 🙂
Marcia says
We had some of those super sultry days as well but now the humidity has dropped and it’s perfect! Nice week!
Deborah Brooks says
I am hoping it stays that way in Chicago-I am coming to visit my daughter for a few days this week
Wendy says
We’ve had a little break from the heat and it has been nice! I hope it lasts for your visit. Nice job beating the heat!
Deborah Brooks says
I hope so too! enjoy it while it lasts
Darlene says
I had a race wed night and that’s what I said. Suck it up and get it done. Better than staying indoors in a hotel.
Heat is hard but I’m enjoying those longer days. No complaints.
Deborah Brooks says
Definitely a better choice! I will be channeling my inner Darlene for another race soon
Coco says
Interesting, we never got rain yesterday — it just was drizzly and damp all day.
Maybe I’ll be strong/healthy enough to join you in the Wilpers program the next time you do it!
I’m glad you’ve discovered the value of pre-run barre — I think it is specific classes that are worthwhile, though. There are plenty I can do without! 😉
Deborah Brooks says
Yes, I hope you can join for the fall edition. I have not decided whether I prefer the barre pre or post run but I am just going to keep doing them.
Fairytales and Fitness says
I’ve been seeing all your posts on IG this week and you’ve been crushing those workouts!
Have a great new week Deborah!
Deborah Brooks says
thanks so much you too!
Chocolaterunsjudy says
You are doing a great job sucking it up, Deborah, LOL! Our weather has been back and forth all Summer so far. Hard to acclimate. OTOH, it’s been more nice than not so not complaining — might be a different story next week.
How fun to run into DC on the 4th!
Deborah Brooks says
We do love to run into DC on the 4th. I have to just suck it up and keep moving forward!
Jenny says
Okay, I would turn off that Garmin stat. I think it’s just discouraging- and it sounds to me like you ARE acclimated to the heat. Everything I’ve read said it takes about two weeks, so…I think you’re there (although you can tell me what you think after today’s run!)
Yes, I love the Peloton barre classes for a run warmup. Since I didn’t run this week (SIGH!) i didn’t do any barre classes- but I want to get back to them next week.
Deborah Brooks says
I felt a lot more acclimated today but that stat did not move. I am not sure what it is basing my acclimation on. I need to take a deeper dive into that.I may need to stop looking at that metric!
Liz Dexter says
Once again I’m glad I don’t have a watch that tells me stuff!
We’re heading into a rare heatwave here for the next week (it’s 7pm and 81 here which is a bit much) so I’m going to have a dial-down week in my running.
Deborah Brooks says
it is really hard to get used to the heat good luck this week!
Kim G says
“Suck it up” is my motto for the summer. I hate it but it happens every year so I just try to deal, lol.
Also, I feel like the Garmin watch is very rude, lol. It should give you a round of applause after every run you complete in the heat and humidity.
Deborah Brooks says
It really can be a little rude!!
Jessie says
I’ve only really done the 10 min barre with Hannah, but love the glute work. So important for runners!
Great week!
Deborah Brooks says
yes it sure is! Hannah’s are my go to as well
Debbie @ Deb Runs says
Looks like it’s going to be another week of mid to high 80’s, but as we like to say around here, “It’s not the heat, it’s the humidity” and it appears to be making a comeback!
Deborah Brooks says
Yes, I am sure we are in for a hot few weeks around here
Shathiso says
You really did suck it up and get it done Deborah! What an effort with those high humidity levels!! And as always you do it all in style!
Deborah Brooks says
ah thanks my friend!
Michele Heller says
I love the suck it up quote. I’ll tell myself something similar when it gets tough “shut up, your fine” (a friend who coached me used to say this when I complained). It’s always the tempo runs isn’t it? Great job getting it done and I am impressed with your cross training.
Deborah Brooks says
thanks and cross training is key for me.I need to have a day off between runs and strength keeps me healthy
