Spring is the time of the year when there are so many fun races in so many different places. How does one ever decide which ones to run? It sure seems like they are all on the same weekends too. I’ve come up with a little spring race bucket list of my own of races I’d love to run someday.
Spring Race Bucket List
New York City Half
Although I live pretty close to NYC, I have never run a race there. The New York City half has been on my radar for a few years. I threw my name into the lottery this year but unfortunately did not get in. Perhaps on of these years!
Napa Valley Half marathon
I just loved our Ragnar Napa Valley last fall and would love to go back and experience more of Napa. Looks like a gorgeous course and I will run for wine.
Hoosier Half marathon
On the beautiful Indiana University Bloomington campus where both of my kids are currently enrolled. The timing has not worked out for me yet but I would love to run this low key but I hear super hilly race.
New Orleans RnR Half marathon
I cannot believe I’ve never been to New Orleans before! Seems like the perfect place for a racecation. I love RnR races and I bet it’s the perfect blend of fitness, food and fun.
Nashville RnR half Marathon
Also another city that is pretty close to me that I have not been to yet. Between the music, the food and oh yeah the running, Nashville seems like such a fun spot for a race weekend. I heard about this fun Nashville Notes City Guide from my friends at BibRave and Brooks Running. They have highlighted all the must have foodie stops as well as fun IG photo spots you don’t want to miss.
You can find all the info on the Nashville Notes City Guide and Pin it for your upcoming trip or spring bucket list races here.
I hope to “Run Happy” at a few of these Rock N Roll races next year. Are any of these on your spring race bucket list?

I don’t think I knew there was a half marathon in Napa Valley. I want to go to Napa so I should sign up for that race so that I have an excuse to visit. A friend of ours ran the NYC Half this year and really enjoyed it.
Deborah Brooks says
A great excuse to visit Napa. I believe there are 2 there every year
Kim G says
I would also love to do RnR Nashville. I’m going to Nashville for a conference in June and I can’t wait to explore the city since I’ve never been there before.
Deborah Brooks says
Oh wow that will be so much fun. There is so much to do there hope you have some extra time to explore the city
Wendy says
I still want to run Cherry Blossom! Hoping that my health will get me back to that place so that I can get to DC and run it.
Nashville is so much fun. I don’t know if I’d want to run it tho, it’s super hilly. I’d be a great spectator tho! :p
Deborah Brooks says
I hope you do have the chance to run CB one year it’s a great race.
Judy @ Chocolaterunsjudy says
Sadly no big races for me this spring. OTOH, I do think my body was ready for an extended break from hard training. Some shorter ones, probably. I’ve been to TN, but not Nashville & not to race. NOLA is so much fun!
Deborah Brooks says
I know so many places to go it’s hard to choose! Sounds like it was a good idea for you to take off a bit
Darlene says
Those are all great races. I’d love to do them as well.
I was lucky with NYC because I’m older and you can get a guaranteed entry with a certain time. Check them out.
Deborah Brooks says
I looked into NYC and did not get in this year. I will keep trying though!
Chaitali says
New York, Nashville and New Orleans are high on my list too! I’ve been to New York a lot but never for a race. I’ve been to Nashville once but it was for work so I barely got to see any of the city at all. And I’ve never been to New Orleans!
Deborah Brooks says
I know so many races so little time! It’s hard to choose huh?
Kimberly Hatting says
I’d love to do all of those as well, especially the RnR’s in NOLA & Nashville. Umm, I’m thinking we need to plan a girls’ weekend somewhere next spring!
Deborah Brooks says
We just might! So many races so little time
Sandra D Laflamme says
So many good races to choose from. I would definitely love to run in Napa or to try one of those RnR races!
Deborah Brooks says
It is so hard to pick which ones to do!
Laurie says
You have a great bucket list, Deborah! You are right, there are so many good races around in the spring. the Napa Half is especially appealing to me. I did the Napa to Sonoma half once and loved it! I need another excuse to visit wine country! 🙂
Deborah Brooks says
I think we just found you a great excuse to go back to Napa 🙂
Sarah @ Bucket List Tummy says
Love racing bucket lists! I’d love to do NYC too! I just signed up for the Disney marathon next Jan because I’ve always wanted to do it!
Deborah Brooks says
I have not done a Disney race yet! It sees a little bit like a lot of logistics but maybe one day
Abbey Sharpe says
If I lived in the states I would be running these marathons yesterday! Hope you get a bunch of them checked off your bucket list xo
Deborah Brooks says
I hope I do too!
rebecca says
what a great excuse to travel! all these races look like a blast & are in cool places!
Deborah Brooks says
I know it’s hard to choose which one to do first!
GiGi Eats says
I’m not surprised at the amount of races you have on your bucket list!!!! I love how you run so many of them, they bring you so much joy (I can just see it in all your photos)!!! 😀
Deborah Brooks says
Aw thanks! I may not be the fastest but I am having lots of fun out there
Michelle @ Running with Attitude says
Nashville has been on my list for a while but I haven’t been able to make it work. And, I’d head to Napa any time 🙂 So many races…hmm now you’ve got me thinking! 😉
Deborah Brooks says
I know it’s so hard to decide which races to do! So many fun ones
The Accidental Marathoner says
That Hoosier Half sounds so fun! Though my youngest is about to graduate, maybe the two of us can do it some day while your son is still there!
Deborah Brooks says
It’s a date! 🙂 Hoosier moms
Coco says
I think Nashville would be so much fun — as long as it’s not too hot!
Deborah Brooks says
Agreed! Sounds like a fun race cation spot for sure
Liz Dexter says
I’m the weird one who just likes running rather than racing – not just because I’m slow. I have two races scheduled, the Liverpool RnR marathon at the end of May and the Race to the Stones 2nd day ultra in mid-July. I might do the Birmingham half-marathon as I’ve skipped two years and I will be wanting to keep my distances up while I get fitter in myself, too. But not sure. Three races in one year???
I will however be officiating at four veterans’ Track and Field league matches and hopefully the final, two senior league T&F matches, a senor two-day T&F match, one last road relay and a few other bits and pieces, so I’ll be keeping busy in that way!
Deborah Brooks says
I don’t think it’s weird at all! But does sound like you have a fun race schedule ahead
Liz Dexter says
I actually forgot I DO have three races this year – I have a 10 mile trail race in June to help prep for my ultra (three times that distance but this one is harder-going). Must be so scared about it I’m putting it out of my mind!!
Deborah Brooks says
ha ha well an Ultra would sure scare me!
Zenaida Arroyo says
I’ve run both RnR New Orleans (half and full) and the RnR Nashville. I also entered the lottery for the NYC Half and did not get in. I will try again this year.
Deborah Brooks says
So which one was your favorite?
Marc Pelerin says
I ran New Orleans half a few years ago and had a good time. It’s REALLY flat, so that’s a huge plus.
Deborah Brooks says
That is a huge plus! Thanks
Esther says
Love your hat!
Fun races in the spring for sure!
I ran Nashville back in 2010, and that was an adventurous race with tornadoes and horrid rain storms!
Looking forward to reading more about your spring races that you run!
Deborah Brooks says
Well tornadoes and heavy rain would not be on the plan!
Sarah Grace Spann says
Wow what a fun bucket list! I need to get back into running again to find the motivation after my wedding!!
Deborah Brooks says
Races sure are great motivation!
