I’ve made this playlist on Spotify because it’s the easiest place to find and download all the songs you love for an unlimited monthly fee. PS if you have a student in your home the student account is a steal at $4.99 a month. No this is not a sponsored post. Just sharing the love. All of my playlists are public and can be shared if you are interested.

I have older faves like “Push it” by Salt-N-Pepa and “Don’t you want me” by The Human League. Of course, no playlist is complete without some Billy Joel and Police classics. I threw in a few newer hits from DNCE and Walk the Moon. This half marathon playlist brings up all sorts of feel good memories for me from college on. They are fun to sing along to in your head or out loud.

A great list and so many songs! It will definitely last you for the half-marathon and beyond. All the best for New Orleans! Looking forward to your recap.

      Thanks so much Catrina!

Looks like a fun playlist. You know I love to sing along when I run! Good luck in NOLA!

It will definitely keep me occupied!

  3. Chaitali says

Sounds like a fun playlist! I like to listen to music during races too. It definitely helps me keep going when the race gets tough.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      02/07/2020 at 6:01 pm

Yes I agree music can be a good distraction as well as a motivator

  4. Kate Symons says

I don’t necessarily care about what the song is, I just need a consistent beat. I search for 160bpm which puts me at about a 9:30mm pace if I run on beat.

I finished my first ever half marathon at 2:15 with fairly consistent pace the entire time, and honestly feel that most of that is from the backbeat pushing me to stay on pace.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      02/07/2020 at 6:01 pm

      That’s fantastic!

  5. Kim G says

    02/07/2020 at 9:51 am

This looks like a really fun playlist! Music is probably the only things that gets me through a run, especially a long run. I like focusing on the beat or the lyrics instead of how much longer I have until I finish the race, lol

    • Deborah Brooks says

      02/07/2020 at 6:03 pm

      Yes that sure helps!

  6. Katie says

    02/07/2020 at 10:20 am

I love your clever song ideas that are a blast from the past! Push it is great, and I LOL’d at King of Pain. That’s appropriate (I mean, hopefully not really though!). Those will put a kick in your step for sure. Be sure to refuel with some King Cake afterwards.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      02/07/2020 at 6:03 pm

Ha ha yes and definitely looking forward to some rewarding treats!

  7. Kimberly Hatting says

Gotta love all those 80’s hits!! I almost fell off my chair when I saw Adam Ant made the list! I saw him in concert LOL

    • Deborah Brooks says

      02/07/2020 at 6:03 pm

Ha ha yes I think music was better back then!

  8. Judy @ Chocolaterunsjudy says

    02/07/2020 at 11:31 am

I stopped listening to music while I run quite a few years ago. Although I think about going back to it, I haven’t yet. I love Shut Up & Dance by Walk the Moon (didn’t look to see if that’s the one you chose).

Have a wonderful tie in NOLA! One of our friends is running it. She’ll be in a TNT singlet with a whole boatload of little papers with all her donors on it (I think it’s the donors).

    • Deborah Brooks says

      02/07/2020 at 6:04 pm

Yes that is one of my fave running sing out loud songs it’s on there. Thanks and can’t wait to see that finish line

    Good luck this weekend!

Have a fun race! Can’t remember the last time I listened to music while on a run. Been binging on podcasts lately 😁

    • Deborah Brooks says

      02/09/2020 at 4:32 pm

    • Deborah Brooks says

Thanks! Really helped me get through my race today

  15. Cari says

    02/10/2020 at 10:30 am

So many good ones. There’s something about those high school, college songs that just work for running and the memory lane element. When Songza was a thing I loved their “at a 90s School Dance” playlist. Mariah/ODB Fantasy remix is still one of my favorite running songs.

Did not know Rascal Flatts did a version of Life is a Highway. I’ll have to get that one.

  16. Darlene says

    01/21/2022 at 7:29 am

    Love this.

I used to listen to music all the time. Then I ran to Peleton. Now it’s mostly podcasts.

But for races I just enjoy my surroundings.

    Thanks for sharing.

I don’t have a student at home but I have a .edu email for work so it would work.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      01/21/2022 at 7:55 am

Yes your edu email will give you the discount. I like to have Spotify for my solo runs and races

  17. Jenny says

    01/21/2022 at 9:02 am

Ha, this is great- you’ve got some of my favorites on there. I haven’t listened to music while i run in a while- I should get back to it. I need to spring for the paid Spotify- the ads on the free version drive me nuts.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      01/21/2022 at 5:16 pm

I am glad that you like some of my faves too. You can use your son’s student discount too

  18. Kimberly Hatting says

    01/21/2022 at 9:08 am

I remember seeing these lists before…lots of awesome classics on there! I love a good playlist for workouts, but (very surprisingly) don’t miss the music when I’m running. I keep thinking back to last weekend’s virtual half. The fact I did that all alone, without any music (other than a few songs I had on repeat in my head), was a totally surreal experience. Whodda thunk? LOL

    • Deborah Brooks says

      01/21/2022 at 5:19 pm

When I run with my friends I do not use music but I do like it for a race and for just listening to sometimes

  19. Michelle D. says

    01/21/2022 at 11:27 am

Definitely a fun mix of songs! I’m always looking to refresh my list so thanks for re-sharing this post.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      01/21/2022 at 5:20 pm

Thanks for checking it out. I love that my Peloton playlist has grown to include 3 years worth of my faves

  20. Black Knight says

    01/21/2022 at 11:46 am

    A fun list of songs.
I used to listen music while running but here there are a lot of cars and I have to pay more attention so ….. no more music.
However I enjoy my favorite songs during the stretching sessions at home.
All the best for New Orleans!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      01/21/2022 at 5:20 pm

Yes, you do have to watch out for the cars!

  21. Chocolaterunsjudy says

    01/21/2022 at 2:22 pm

It’s funny, I don’t run or race outside with music (or audiobooks, or podcasts). But I do like music on the mill. I also struggle some with Peloton classes because of the chosen music (usually geared to a younger audience, or at least I think so).

Still I can usually find a class with music I enjoy!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      01/21/2022 at 5:21 pm

I only use music when I run alone or during a race. I do like to have a few fun playlists ready to go

  22. Cari says

    01/24/2022 at 11:36 am

Good music makes all the difference. That’s part of my choosing in the Peloton runs as well. I don’t care how good the instructor is, I need the music as a distraction especially in the mornings. Your Half list is totally one I’d listen to. Part of why I’m glad I kept my iPod despite getting into Peloton is the playlists and remembering when songs came into my music life. Something about knowing I crossed the finish of my first Half to Fight song, but also hearing it for the first time live on the Intrepid. Music is so important in so many different ways

    • Deborah Brooks says

      01/24/2022 at 1:19 pm

I agree! Good music totally motivates me. I love that in a race to push me through

  23. Jenn says

    01/24/2022 at 6:02 pm

Awesome! Who doesn’t love a good workout/running/fitness playlist?!

Billy Joel always makes my list, for sure.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      01/25/2022 at 2:01 pm

      Great running music!
