Thanks for joining Kim and me for the weekly run down. I am excited to be running in 2024 with high hopes and a sunny outlook. Here’s a peek into my first week of the year fitness.
Running into 2024
Sunday- 5.5 mile run + stretch
It was a gorgeous day to finish off the year with a sunny run. Feeling good about upping my mileage a bit.
Monday-Upper + lower body strength + Peloton walk + core + stretch
New week, new day, new year same me. No sweeping resolutions over here. I’m just continuing to train for that thing called life. I do love the new start to the Peloton milestones and added my first 100 minutes.
Tuesday-4.5 mile run + core + stretch
First run of 2024 in the books. I was so out of sorts this morning. I was ready to walk out the door in my jacket, gloves and watch on only to realize I was still wearing slippers. Once I actually got the running shoes on, all was good.
Wednesday-lower body strength + barre + afternoon walk + stretch
I am in the 2nd week of Adrian’s Glutes & Legs program (Peloton) and boy it’s kicking my ass in a good way. It’s fun to feel strength gains.
Thursday-5.7 mile run + core + stretch + afternoon walk
It started off pretty windy and cold but as usual, we were shedding our jackets by the end of our run. I am slowly inching my run mileage back up still using the intervals and feeling good.
Friday-barre + full body strength + core + Peloton cycle + 2 mile walk
It was a busy day over here. One of my running friends wanted to try out some Peloton classes so I set up a sample of some good ones for us. She may be cursing my name come tomorrow! I spent some time working on cleaning out my pantry and made some great progress. Later, I took a break and an afternoon walk.
Saturday- Active rest day + Peloton stretch
I took on the rest of pantry and after 4 more hours, it’s looking a lot better. I’ve ordered some organizational things from amazon and look forward to finishing my project.
The first week of running into 2024 is going well!
Kimberly Hatting says
Definitely a great start to 2024 for you! My pantry and my freezer (UGH) are needing some purging and tossing…thanks for the inspiration, LOL! IT’s great to hear the running is feeling good, and your mileage is increasing well 😉
Deborah Brooks says
I am very proud of my pantry progress! Maybe the freezer is next 🙂 Yes, I am feeling better about my run mileage at the moment
Wendy says
Nice week Deborah! I’m glad to see you increasing your miles. That has to feel good.
I am working on purging my closet–a lot of my clothes don’t fit anymore, plus I have so much fitness gear! I listed a bunch of stuff on eBay yesterday. Today I hope to do more purging. It feels good, doesn’t it?
Deborah Brooks says
It does feel great to be running some more miles. I am cautiously optimistic 🙂 I hear you on the fitness gear. I have sold some on Poshmark but have not tried EBay-do you have luck on there?
Wendy says
I have in the past. I’ll give it a month or so and if nothing happens, I’ll try Poshmark.
Coco says
Glad your return to running is going well!
I’ve been doing some cleanng out too—although there are some closets I just can’t face. 😉
Ooh, I bet there’s a market for personal training with personalized Peloton stacks, but you’d have to build a database of notes on the classes.
Deborah Brooks says
Never thought about designing stacks for other people-could easily be done and would be fun. Cleaning feels good I am almost done with the pantry
Melissa says
sounds like you are starting 2024 off great in terms of workouts!! good to see that mileage going up up up! good thing you remembered your running shoes and didn’t get out of the house in slippers — that would be too funny!
Deborah Brooks says
Ha yes, it would not have gone well! I am enjoying some better runs at the moment. have to take advantage when the opportunity arises
Darlene S. Cardillo says
Looks like you’re off to a great start.
We have snow. Finally.
My running start is on hold. Sigh.
Deborah Brooks says
I am just trying to take each running opportunity as a gift and enjoy it on the days it feels good.
Chocolaterunsjudy says
Happy to hear you’re off to a good 2024, except for the slippers, LOL! I forget stuff before getting out the door all the time (but actually didn’t yesterday), but that would be a first (I’m sure it could happen someday, too, LOL!).
Sounds like you’re off to a great start!
Deborah Brooks says
I am trying to appreciate and enjoy each run and be thankful for where I am
Debbie says
Great start to the year, Deborah! I hope your running mileage continues to build without any issues.
My pantry is in pretty good shape, but my freezers… My d-i-l organized the kitchen freezer while she was visiting at Christmas, but I still need to do the basement freezer. I need to use stuff up and not shop like I can only go to the store on a monthly basis. LOL
Deborah Brooks says
Yes, the freezers are next we have 3 so not looking forward to seeing what is in those. I am happy to be in a running phase at the moment and taking each day as a gift
Jenny says
Hooray! I’m glad running is going well and you were able to start 2024 STRONG. Don’t even talk to me about kitchen organization- my freezer needs a cleanout desperately, but I’m still working on getting the holiday stuff put away! I have some work to do this week.
Deborah Brooks says
I am happy too-very run is a gift. the freezers are next (we have 3!) so it’s going to be a task for sure
Susanne says
Nice start of 2024! I envy your weather. We also have beautiful sunshine but it doesn’t help when roads are icy! I don’t do resolutions but only a word/focus of the year and some goals or plans. All of that is very simplified this year.
Couldn’t agree more about feeling strength gains and I hope your friend enjoyed the Peloton classes.
Deborah Brooks says
We have had a pretty mild winter so far! February is usually our coldest month so we will see
Michelle says
Looks like a great start to 2024! Hope running continues to feel good for you!
Deborah Brooks says
Thanks Michelle me too! Every run is a gift
Jenn says
I love seeing us all start the new year so powerfully! It’s looking chilly by you, but you are still getting it done! What’s next?
Deborah Brooks says
Chilly running is my jam! Planning a 10K in a few weeks 🙂
Cari says
I know we talked about the New Years shirt, but I love the tights and Thursdays. So springy! So glad the miles have been kind to you
Deborah Brooks says
This week was good-I will take it!
San says
What a great start to 2024! Did you also love that the year started on a Monday? 😉
I didn’t make a lot of resolutions either, just hoping to continue on my path with fitness, health and nutrition.
I chuckled that you cleaned out your pantry. I took on my closet this weekend. It’s a little early for spring cleaning, but hey, why not use all the energy that comes with the beginning of a new year and start early! 🙂
Deborah Brooks says
Yes, I did like that it was a Monday too. Felt so good to do the pantry and I will tackle the coat closet next
Black Knight says
A great start. I’m glad that your running is going well. I am sure you will continue to increase the mileage.
I missed the Christmas and New Year runs with my friends but …. never mind….. I will run again.
Deborah Brooks says
as you know running comes in cycles and as we age, we just have to roll with them
Jessie says
Cleaning and purging is a great way to start the year! Way to get those things done.
Glad running is feeling decent!
Deborah Brooks says
It does feel good!
