Running into 2023 Weekly Run Down

And just like that, we are already into the first week of January 2023. It’s off to a running start. Thanks for joining Kim and me for the weekly run down. Here’s how my first week of the year went down.

weekly run down

Running into 2023

Monday- core + mobility + upper/lower Peloton strength

I am keeping with my usual schedule of hitting the strength classes hard on Mondays. I noticed a new 3 day split strength program with JJ that I am going to give a try. He splits the upper body strength into push and pull days. Today was push and my chest and shoulders sure did feel it.

Tuesday- 3 ish miles + mobility/stretch

It was unseasonably warm again today in the high 50’s for our morning run. We kept it short and sweet today. It was nice to catch up with my squad again post holidays.

Running into 2023

Wednesday-core + mobility + Peloton strength + stretch

My strength classes today were bicep and back focused. Always feels good to move around heavy weights. I did a quick maintenance check in with my PT that helped me with that “pain in the butt” that I had a few months ago. She did a few dry needles “just for fun”. Since I will be ramping up my running this weekend to officially begin training for NYC, I figured it couldn’t hurt!

Running into 2023

Thursday-4 mile run + stretch/mobility

I only had time for a short run today due to a Dr. appointment. It was so crazy to be running in a tank top in January in 60 degrees. We are headed back to winter-like temps tomorrow so don’t be too jealous.

Running into 2023

Friday- barre + core + lower body strength + mobility/stretch

Today I finished week 1 of a split strength Peloton program with JJ. While I normally do 3 days a week of strength, I mixed it up this week and did targeted body parts. For example, Monday was chest and back with a push focus. Wednesday was a pull focus with arms and shoulders. Today was lower body and core. It was a nice way to mix it up and very challenging.

Saturday-rest day and stretching

Regular rest day with stretching and mobility exercises. Winter blew back in and there will be no more tank tops for a while.

Sunday- on the plan 6-7 miles

Running right into 2023 with a longer run today. I am excited to officially start my new half marathon training plan this week.

Thanks for the reminder of JJ’s classes! I’m going to check those out this next week. Looks like you had a great start to ‘23!

I liked how they were structured but wish they were more than one week. Not sure I want to do the same exact classes again this week.

I can’t believe how warm it has been by you! We’re having ‘seasonal’ temperatures aka cold. But it sure is better than the deep freeze we had earlier. Looking forward to following your training for NYC–I didn’t realize you were running it!

    Have a great week!

Yes, I am excited to finally do a race in NYC. 🙂 It was crazy warm for a few days and now we are back to our normal 30’s and 40’s which really is not bad at all

Our weather has been up and down. And rainy. Better than snow.

I have a half Feb. 19. Not thinking about March yet.

    Good luck with your plan.

I have no doubt you will be ready for your half! It all seems so soon all of the sudden!

I think I’ll do JJ’s split after I finish doing Jess’s 45s. How long is each class?

The weather was crazy this week! Glad you were able to enjoy it.

His classes were 30 min so very doable. I did add in core w them.

Great to see you back with your squad! The weather this past week was amazing for January, wasn’t it? I took full advantage and got outside as much as possible.

All the best with your new training cycle! It’s been mild here but tank top weather? Not even close! Lucky you!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      01/08/2023 at 1:52 pm

That tank top only came out one day but still it was odd!

  9. Susanne says

A few needles just for fun, lol!! I hope your butt is better.
I couldn’t agree more about what you said that it feels so good to move around heavy weights. My strength session days are the best days of the week. I was a bit distracted last week but now my focus is back and my trainer told me we’re moving to another kind of program this coming week so that’ll be interesting.
Also, how fantastic with 60 degrees!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      01/08/2023 at 1:53 pm

It does feel good to move heavy weights! Glad you are enjoying your strength sessions as well

Looks like you had some great weather this week! Sounds like JJ’s split was a good one. I was looking to do Robin’s again, but maybe I should check that one out.

Good luck with your NYC half training!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      01/08/2023 at 1:53 pm

I think I will do JJ’s again this week if you want to join me 🙂

  11. Jenny says

    01/08/2023 at 3:00 pm

Oh, that’s funny because I also did a push day and a pull day this week, something I don’t normally do. I liked it, but don’t want to dedicate that much time to my upper body on a regular basis.
Glad you were able to get that last tank top run in! 50s is beautiful running weather. Good luck with the new training plan!

I love doing upper body strength! I think I might do the same workouts this week. I am still sore 🙂

LOL about the dry needling “for fun”. The weather has definitely been a bit crazy but I never complain about warmer (not hot) weather.

Sounds like you’re ready to take on NYC!

I am not ready yet but I am excited to start training again.
