Running Day Rock N Roll Style

As part of my duties as The Ambassador of Rock for DC USA Marathon/Half Marathon, I get to plan and throw Rockin’ Parties!

IMG_1697

Bring on National Running Day! Rock n Roll hosted simultaneous fun runs all over the country yesterday to celebrate this fun holiday. I planned a fun run at Road Runner Sports in Falls Church, VA. Road Runner Sports has hosted numerous events for Rock n Roll over the years throughout the country in addition to their awesome Adventure Runs each month.

This year, Chocolate Milk was a huge sponsor of the fun runs along with Maui Jim sunglasses and CEP socks. Chocolate Milk sent samples for all the runners to enjoy post workout. IMG_1659

Wondering why Chocolate Milk is touted as the perfect recover drink?

LOWFAT CHOCOLATE MILK:
• is a natural source of high-quality protein to build lean muscle
• contains the right mix of protein and carbs scientifically shown to refuel exhausted muscles and help return to peak potential
• provides fluids and electrolytes – like calcium, potassium, magnesium and sodium – to rehydrate and help replenish critical nutrients lost in sweat

You can find more info on the benefits of Chocolate Milk here

Bring in the runners! One of the great things about National Running Day, is that it brings out runners of all walks of life. Marathoners and new runners have the opportunity to run together, socialize, encourage and inspire each other. Something about this day encourages new people to come out who might otherwise be hesitant to come to a group run.

Pre-run I held an impromptu trivia session on Chocolate Milk. Winners were given headbands or hats. This was a big hit and we had lots of people sporting their new gear for the run.

We even outfitted the next generation of runners! Lots of kids participated last night and they did an amazing job keeping up for the 3 mile run.

It was a humid and steamy night in the upper 80’s and the post run chocolate milk hit the spot. It was time for raffle prizes! Road Runner donated 2 pairs of shoes and a bunch of other gear. Rock n Roll provided 10 PF Chang’s gift cards, a pair of CEP socks, Maui Jim water bottles and sunglasses cleaner kits.

The big giveaway of the night went to this lucky lady who scored and entry into The RnR USA run next March 14th in DC.

It’s so much fun talking to runners who have done Rock n Roll races before and hear them so passionately talk about the courses and the great medals. Lots of runners were wearing their shirts from previous races.

We had a large group of runners from my Moms Run This Town group participate and many ran with strollers-always impressive!

It’s always so great to see kids running and loving it! The next generation of runners-

Our event also featured a “Guru” from Brooks running who offered runners a chance to run in the new “Transcend” and test it out.

BRTSDW1-1This was a big hit and quite a few participants ran in the demo shoes. IMG_1698

All in all it was a great night, a great celebration of running & lots of fun giveaways. Being the Ambassador of Rock for DC USA has it’s perks too-I scored a cute little Brooks Running skirt from the Brooks Guru which will get lots of action. Hope to see you at at the RnR USA DC race in March. If you missed the great registration deals yesterday, leave me a comment and I will hook you up with a discount code. In addition, the 13th of every month you can save $13 too.

Hope you had a great Running Day! Are you doing a Rock n Roll race this year!

awww mannn! i’m in the area (i did RnR USA this year!) and i wish i’d known about this. well, to be fair i probably wouldn’t have been able to drive to falls church (i’m in rockville, md) so maybe for the best i didn’t know what i was missing. i did however sign up for 3 RnR races yesterday, including Vegas for this November. and i did my run in my 2014 RnR USA shirt like so many pictured above 😉

Ah didn’t know you were local! We’ll have to hook up at a race one of these days. I did Vegas last year so much fun and flat as a pancake. We should be doing other RnR events this fall I will make sure to let you know. Hope to meet up soon.
