Thanks for joining Kim and me for the weekly run down. This week has been really challenging for me all around. I am sickened and disheartened by the events in the world. I just did not feel comfortable taking and posting pics of myself doing trivial things amidst all of it. In addition, I had a relapse of my glutes issue which knocked me down most of the week.
I am usually a pretty positive person in general and here on the blog. This week, I am keeping it real as always, and this is how my week played out.
Rough week all around
Sunday- 3 mile run + 1 mile walk + stretch
We finally woke up to that fabulous fall weather. At 50 degrees and sunny I was not going to miss a chance to run. I had a pretty intense return of that glute muscle again that I thought was healed. Not amused at all.
Monday- 2 mile walk
Well, I am thwarted again. That glutes pain was even worse today than it originally was. I managed to hobble through a walk and then sat my ass on a heating pad most of the day. Ugh I think my body hates me.
Tuesday- 2 mile walk
I was still in lots of pain in my glute and hip area. Walking was not good and I called it quits after 2 miles.
Wednesday- PT visit and 2 mile walk
I got in to see a PT today and they think it may be labrum related. I am not sure however the treatment and rehab will be similar regardless. Thankfully, I was able to get some dry needling which seemed to immediately help alleviate the area.
Thursday- 45 min Peloton cycle + arms + core + all the PT stretches
I woke up feeling a lot better today and decided to try the bike instead of walking. My back and butt area were much better-we will call that a win! Hopefully, I an get back to upper body workouts tomorrow.
Friday- 45 minute Peloton cycle + upper body strength
Moving in the right direction with my glute and hip pain. Cycling felt pretty good and I really needed the movement. I always had a great deep tissue massage that helped.
Saturday-Fall MRTT Welcome run
While I am still not running, I was able to walk with a few of the MRTT ladies. It was really nice to be amongst so many friends after such an upsetting and horrible few days.
I am hoping my glutes start to behave themselves more this week and I can get back to more activity.
Marcia says
So sorry about the glute pain. I sure hope the labrum is not the root cause. Glad you were able to get out for some time with friends, despite the rain!
Deborah Brooks says
I am not entirely sure where the pain is coming from but I hope we can figure it out soon
Wendy says
I’m so sorry that you’re having such a tough time. I don’t think your body hates you–you’ve just been through a lot this year. I’m here if you need to talk. <3
Deborah Brooks says
Thanks Wendy appreciate that!
Darlene S Cardillo says

Hope it heals soon and you are back to normal.
Deborah Brooks says
me too thanks
Cari says
Love you. You know that. Hang in there my dear friend. Biggest hugs but glares at the mean glute/labrum.
Glad you were up for getting out with your friends. They’re medicinal.
xx
Deborah Brooks says
Love you back! Thanks for all the support always
Coco says
I’m so sorry. I know the news of the world impacts you more than it impacts me, but my heart is breaking and my stomach is churning, so I can only imagine.
OTOH I do know how frustrating the reappearance of your glute pain is. Hopefully this is a short-lived flare.
Deborah Brooks says
thanks and I hope so too
Melissa says
what a week. I’m sorry about the pain and hope you can feel better soon. I’m glad you were able to get out and walk with friends at the Fall Welcome Event.
Deborah Brooks says
Yes, not the best one around here but tomorrow is a new day
Jenny says
Oh Deborah, I’m so sorry to hear this. “I think my body hates me”- I have BEEN THERE. Sometimes we just feel like we’re being knocked down over and over again. But you know what they say- it doesn’t matter how many times you go down, what matters is that you keep getting back up. It sounds like you have an incredible support system with your massage and physical therapists. Hip and glute pain is so frustrating because it can be hard to pinpoint the cause. But you will figure it out! I hope this week is a better one for you.
Deborah Brooks says
thanks Jenny I know it took you long to have your foot feel better. Hoping this week goes a little better
Chocolaterunsjudy says
I have spent so much time in thought this week. It’s definitely been a heavy week.
I’m so sorry that you’re experiencing pain again and unable to walk! I know that would help. I hope that you’re able to get back out there soon.
Deborah Brooks says
Definitely a painful week both physically and emotionally. I hope this week goes a little better
Lisa @ TechChick Adventures says
I’m so sorry to hear the glute monster has come back (I can totally relate!!). That’s the worst. You do seem to have a great support group with PT, doctors, and even friends, so hopefully they can get you back on track again. Sending positive vibes!
Deborah Brooks says
es, I know you have been there. Hoping this week is a little better
Kimberly Hatting says
I am so sorry, Deborah, for everything you had to endure this week. I’m glad the glutes seem to be feeling somewhat better. It was a year ago, this weekend when I started all my PT work for all the glute discomfort I was experiencing, and dry needling was a huge part of my recovery regimen. Hugs to you <3
Deborah Brooks says
thanks Kim hoping for a better week ahead
Debbie says
The news last week was absolutely horrifying.
I’m so sorry to hear you’re having glute pain again and hope you can get it addressed and corrected quickly.
Deborah Brooks says
It is very discouraging for sure. Thanks for the good wishes and yes, I hope I can start finding some relief this week all around
San says
Ugh, Deb, I feel you this week. The news from around the world has been horrific and devastating… and I often seek solace in a good workout. I am so sorry that this has not been an option for you this week with the return of your glute issues. I am so sorry. I can only imagine how frustrating that must be. I do hope you’ll get this sorted out quickly.
Deborah Brooks says
yes, it has been devastating and a good workout can always help. It is so frustrating not to be able to move the way I am used to moving
Black Knight says
Sorry for the pain. Get well soon and come back to run!
All the best.
Deborah Brooks says
Thanks I appreciate that!
Jessie says
That is frustrating! After all the rehab and work you have done, what the heck 🙁 I’m sorry.
And I’m sure the added stress of the events in Israel isn’t helping. Thinking of you Deborah.
Deborah Brooks says
It is very frustrating for sure. I am working hard to get back. And thanks, yes it sure has been an awful 10 days for us and for the world
Jenn says
So many hugs to you. I wish I had the right words to say to help the situation. I don’t know why our world seems so hellbent on destroying itself.
I hope that your glutes are feeling better and you can resume running soon. You must be so frustrated.
Deborah Brooks says
The world is a sad place right now for sure. Xoxo And yes, I am frustrated. They are feeling a little better this week fingers crossed thanks jenn
Liz Dexter says
Sorry to hear about the glute resurgence and I’m with you on the world events / my stuff is trivlal thing, too. We had a stressful issue with mother-in-law having a dangerous episode with her diabetes and couldn’t sit down to any silly TV programmes to decompress in the same sort of way. But we do need joy and normality in our lives and to see in others’ lives, too, I think, to balance things out. Hope the glute continues to heal, and that the world settles, of course.
Deborah Brooks says
I am sorry to read that your mother in law is having some health problems. It sure can be hard to tune out when everything feels so overwhelming and scary. Appreciate the good wishes and sending them back to you as well xoxo
