Thanks for joining me and Kim for the weekly run down today. I am rocking my Run Recovery like a boss this week. Here is a peek into my week of fitness and fun.
Rocking my Run Recovery
Monday- Travel back home to DC + foam rolling
While Asheville is not that far from DC as the crow flies, it is not that easy to get to. our return flight had us connecting through Laguardia so it took us about 6 hours to get home. I immediately grabbed my foam roller for a quickie Peloton class with Hannah. My quads were still a little sore and that was just what I needed.
Tuesday- core + upper body strength + recovery Peloton ride
I am not feeling ready to run quite yet and was happy to get back to strength and cycling. Rocking that recovery. I hit up some core and upper body today with an easy-paced recovery ride. A last-minute afternoon walk with a friend was a nice bonus.
Wednesday- full body strength + double core + stretch
I am continuing to rock my recovery week with a little less intensity on the workouts. I did treat myself to an afternoon pedicure because my feet were not happy or very pretty. Runner’s feet are not always so attractive! I hit my 1000th Peloton stretch class. These have been key for me this past year.
Thursday- 4.5 mile run + core + stretch
I was itching to get back out on a run. Kept it a little shorter and slower. We dodged the spring rain showers and caught up with some of the blooming trees.
Friday- upper & lower body strength + core
A quickie workout for me before heading to the airport. We are spending the weekend in Chicago with our daughter for her birthday and meeting her boyfriend’s parents for the first time. Also another Peloton milestone today with 1000 strength classes.
Hello Chicago! Someone forgot to tell you it was now spring. It’s freezing!
Saturday- hot yoga class
We woke up to snow flurries and cold wind and I was underdressed for sure. I was glad I had thrown my gloves in last minute!
My daughter wanted me to check out her favorite yoga spot, Ritual Yoga. I have not been to an actual class in person for over 2 years! My tight runner hamstrings appreciated the stretch in the warm heat. I am not in yoga shape anymore! This was a different vibe class with candlelit rooms and fast paced flow. Perfect for me as I was falling all over the place-ha!
We spent the afternoon at Shedd Aquarium. Dinner was our chance to meet my daughter’s boyfriend’s parents at Tavern on Rush. Since I wrote this last night I will have to update on that next week!
Sunday- On the plan: 6 mile run
I plan to do an easy paced 6 miler today running towards the lakeshore. It is a lot colder than I expected and I am wishing I had another layer. Seems like everyone is having a cold spell this weekend.
I am happy with how I rocked my recovery week cutting back on miles and doing lots more stretching. One week until the Cherry Blossom 10 miler.

Yes it is darn cold here this weekend. I’m sorry we couldn’t offer you better weather! Very nice recovery week for you and I hope you enjoyed meeting your daughter’s boyfriend’s parents. How exciting!
Deborah Brooks says
yes we did have a great quick trip! Definitely will catch up w you next time. It’s been too long
Kimberly Hatting says
Great job rocking your recovery!! The Cherry Blossom is a perfect post-race event with perfect timing. Yeah, what’s up with this winter whiplash weekend? At least our wind (in Iowa) has mellowed…some. Enjoy your remaining time in the Windy City & safe travels beck to DC 🙂
Deborah Brooks says
thanks it was another whirlwind weekend of adventure
Wendy says
It is so cold and I didn’t bring my winter running gear up to Wisco. I’m sure I will freeze when I head out later this morning. But at least it is sunny! How fun that you got to meet your daughter’s BFs parents! I guess that means it’s serious…
Safe travels back to DC. Looking forward to hearing more about your trip!
Deborah Brooks says
thanks yes, I do think they are getting serious 🙂 Will definitely catch you next time
Liz Dexter says
Great recovery, well done! I hope the parental meeting has gone well.
Deborah Brooks says
thanks yes, it was a fun weekend
Darlene says
Yes. Cold weather is back here too. Brrr
Hope you have cherry blossoms still for next weekend. Nothing happening on the trees here.
Glad to hear you are feeling well and recovered. Congrats again on a great race.
Deborah Brooks says
Thanks Darlene! Stay warm
Coco says
Two 1K badges in the same week! I hit my 200th stretch today, so I’ve got a ways to go to catch up to you! Can’t wait to hear how the dinner went. I do want to get back to hot yoga one of these days ….
Deborah Brooks says
It was nice to get back to hot yoga but not sure I am going to do it at home again anytime soon
Melissa says
Great recovery!! It’s sp important and often neglected. We had cold weather and SNOW this weekend. Definitely ready for spring!
Deborah Brooks says
It seems everyone had a freezing weekend!
Debbie @ Deb Runs says
It’s so hard to pack for traveling this time of year… There seems to be cold weather going through much of the nation. Luckily for us, we’re not experiencing Virginia’s second polar vortex in March because we’re in Florida.
I hope you’re having a great time in Chicago and enjoyed meeting your daughter’s boyfriend’s parents. Have a great rest of your stay!
Deborah Brooks says
It is hard to pack bc the weather changes so frequently
Jenny says
Ooh, hot yoga- I’ve never taken a hot yoga class but I want to! Hope your run today went well- I’m imagining it was very, very chilly, if you’re running near the lake. In spite of the weather it sounds like a fun weekend, and you know we’re all eagerly waiting for a recap of the big parent meeting, ha ha!
Sounds like you had a great recovery week- you’ll be all ready for your race next weekend!
Deborah Brooks says
Thanks Jenny! It was pretty windy and cold but we packed a lot in and had fun
Lisa @ TechChick Adventures says
A parent meetup! Fun! Hope it went well. Sounds like a fun week and you’re doing a great job on recovery and self care. My feet weren’t too bad looking until last year. Now they are terrible. At least nail polish makes my toenails look more normal but I would never go get a pedicure. No need to scare anyone. haha! I packed a ton of cold weather clothes for my biking/hiking trip this week, so I’m guessing it will probably be warm just to spite me. (and that wouldn’t be bad…)
Deborah Brooks says
nail polish and pedicures help but my feet have taken a beating the past few years
Cari says
Yay on double thousands. Shedd is on my bucket list. We had to choose between that and the Field and there’s no bad choice there.
See you on Saturday <3
Deborah Brooks says
I can’t wait to see you!
Chocolaterunsjudy says
Nice week of recovery workouts! Always fun to walk with a friend.
But wait, what? You had to fly through LaGuardia? I hate when that sort of routing happens, but of course nothing (except NYC) is direct for us.
My head is spinning at your turnaround, LOL! I hope meeting the parents (and BF) went well, and happy birthday to your daughter!
Deborah Brooks says
Yes, we did have to fly thru LGA it was nutty. My head is spinning on my quick turn around as well. While my husband is used to tons of travel, I need recovery days 🙂 I am done for at least a month
Jessie says
Congrats on the Peloton milestones! How lovely to be in Chicago to meet the boyfriend’s parents! Sounds pretty serious 🙂 It was way too chilly in Minneapolis as well for the end of March. And Chicago can be so windy, definitely makes it feel cold!
I find those long days of travel with a connection pretty tiring. Glad you gave your body the recovery it needed.
Deborah Brooks says
It is funny how sitting on a plane makes you feel tired. Looking forward to a lower key week for sure
Michelle says
Looks like a great recovery week! And how fun to have spent some time with your daughter and met the BF’s parents! Safe travels home.
Deborah Brooks says
yes, it was a great quick weekend visit
Kim G says
Congrats on 1,000 stretch class and joining the “comma club” as Jess Sims says, lol.
Such a bummer about the weather in Chicago this past weekend – Spring was definitely on vacation.
Deborah Brooks says
it sure was!n That is okay we still had a great time
Shathiso says
Congratulations on the two 1K milestones! The milestones show how consistent you’ve been with BOTH strength and stretching, well done! Love the sound of the candlelit rooms for yoga and glad you were able to to it with your daughter. You’ve had an awesome recovery week – less miles but still active.
Deborah Brooks says
thanks that was my plan so I feel rested for this weekend’s race 🙂 busy season over here
