Thanks for joining Kim and Me for the weekly run down. I am not sure if March is supposed to roar in like a lion or roar out like a lion. None the less, March is here with the continuing weather roller coaster. Here is a peek into my week of fitness and running.
Roaring into March
Monday- mobility + core + upper body strength + stretching
I arrived home last night from Chicago and was determined to get right back to my schedule. I started a new core program from Rebecca (Peloton) that just came out today. While I do core classes almost daily, I do enjoy these monthly programs that focus on one discipline from time to time.
Tuesday-4.5 mile run + stretching + foam rolling class
Today’s interval run with strides went way better than I expected! I felt really good out there. Was it the peanut butter and jelly sandwich I ate for breakfast because I didn’t prep my oatmeal? Perhaps! I will take it! We also had a nice big group.
Wednesday- barre + core + full body strength + stretching
A good all around workout today. The full body workout with JJ had lots of compound moves (my favorite). I shared a new variation on my oatmeal breakfast bakes on IG.
I had a nice afternoon coffee walk and talk with some friends. Oops no photo!
Thursday- 4 ish mile run + stretching + mobility
This was a really good run and I needed that today! I repeated the run from Tuesday. The striders mid run are a great way to mix it up and give a boost of speed. I may add these to my race day plan. Today I shared one of my favorite stretches to target the Achilles and calf area. Perfect for the plantar fascia. See it here on IG.
Friday- barre + core + stretch
I had my annual physical this morning. It required me to fast (which I hate!) because I wake up hungry! Anyway- it was worth it as I got a literal “gold star” from my doc who is very happy with my vitals etc.
I kind of ran out of time and did a shorter workout today. No sweat! A little extra rest is good for me. I did a short Peloton barre and core class.
Saturday- rest day + Peloton stretch
I got a lot done today around the house with my excess energy. Glad it was a rest day because that March wind was roaring today! We had 40 mile an hour gusts and trees were blowing everywhere.
Sunday- on the plan 10 ish miles
My last long long run before the NYC half in 2 weeks! I should have a big group of friends to run with today.
Darlene S. Cardillo says
Hooray for the last long run. You are ready!!!
Isn’t it great to have friends to run with. I miss that.
Anyway looking forward to our NYC meet up.
Deborah Brooks says
Ready or not I will be there! Yes, I look forward to seeing you

Your training has gone fantastic and you’re all ready! I hope that you get good weather, because it hasn’t been great lately — although NYC is much warmer.
PB&J sounds like good fuel. 🙂
Deborah Brooks says
I have no idea what the weather will be!
Marcia says
I’m excited for your race! You are well prepped! Keep those high winds over there please. We are all calm lately and I’m loving it!
Deborah Brooks says
It was wild yesterday but it is beautiful today!
Wendy says
I’m glad to hear that your runs went better this week! I’m telling you, PB&J is where it’s at, lol. I’m trialing Bob’s Red Mill PBJ oat bars and so far so good.
That core challenge sounds really good! I need a focused challenge like that because I’m not a fan of core work.
Deborah Brooks says
I do love to core work and I always take the new ones as they pop up. I usually stray away from premade bars bc of the sugar but pb and J was a good long run fuel. I am still playing with some fueling!
Coco says
In like a lion, out like a lamb, but I think Mother Nature has gone off-script. 😉
Yay on the good health report. Probably a light day after faster is better anyway.
You are in such great condition for NYC!!!
Deborah Brooks says
I felt so good on Tuesday and Thursday but today was really harder than I liked. They cannot all be good.
Debbie says
Don’t you love a gold star annual physical – healthy eating and consistent exercise will do that!
You’re so ready for your spring races! I’m looking forward to reading all about your adventures.
Deborah Brooks says
I hope so!
Kimberly Hatting says
That reminds me, I totally spaced Rebecca’s core program…I need to check that out and “get with the program,” literally! I like those monthly challenges as well. I hope your 10-miler goes well! We’ve had insane wind here, too.
Deborah Brooks says
Today’s run was a little harder than I would have liked-moving on!
Melissa says
Great job with all your training- you are ready for the race! Good luck with the last long run. It must feel good to be almost there 🙂
Deborah Brooks says
I am ready to get there!
Jessie says
You are so ready for your race! Can’t wait to hear about it!
Deborah Brooks says
Thanks excited to run there!
Warren Footz says
good..so good. tiday I needed to read this. I know, I know, I keep reading but am not sure if I should but, why not?…..pretty much your stuff all makes sense….after a tough week, I needed to see something inspiring and positive…..
Deborah Brooks says
thanks and I hope you have a better week ahead!
Jenny says
I hope your long run went well! That’s exciting your race is so soon. I looked at your calf/achilles stretch and it looks great. I’ve been doing stretching every night like that for my PF (although it doesn’t seem to be helping) but mine is a little different- I’ll try your version.
Deborah Brooks says
Let me know what you think of the calf stretch. I like that it gets my Achilles. My long run was hard today! They can’t all be good right
San says
A solid week and your group runs always sounds so fun.
Also hooray for good results at the doctor’s office – always welcome, amirite? 🙂
Deborah Brooks says
Thanks ready to taper!
Lisa @ TechChick Adventures says
You are ending this cycle in great shape! Time for bubble wrap 🙂
Deborah Brooks says
Ha. I have a few little aches and pains but I will make it 🙂
Jenn says
Yay for running with friends! You are going to have such a great time at NYC.
Deborah Brooks says
Should be lots of fun!
Cari says
I love your friend’s cherry blossom shirt. Haven’t seen that one before.
That stretch is such a good one for happy feet.
Yay on the gold star from your doc and YES to PB&J. If I could figure out uncrustables on the go, they’d absolutely be my in race fuel. PB&J bagel was my NYC marathon b reakfast. I like oatmeal, but sometimes it’s a little too grown up
Deborah Brooks says
ha ha too grown up! 🙂
Kim G says
Gotta love getting an A+ from your doctor. Such a great feeling!
I’m still wrapping my head around the fact that the NYC half is in 2 weeks lol. How are we already a week into March?!
Deborah Brooks says
ha you and me both! This month flew by
