Thanks for joining Kim and Me for the Weekly Run Down today. I am in full-on recovery mode this week after my Maine Half Marathon. One lesson I have learned over the past few years is the importance of rest and recovery. That is what I focused on this week.
Recovery Mode in Progress
Monday- Peloton yoga and stretch
I slept for 10 hours last night after flying home from Maine and that was how I kicked off my recovery. I did 2 short stretch and yoga for hips classes and that’s it. Part of my recovery focus is also to make sure I am getting enough protein and I will be tracking mine this week.
Tuesday- upper body strength + core + barre + hip opening yoga
I am taking my recovery seriously. I really wanted to run again today and then reminded myself that I have nothing to lose and everything to gain by allowing myself to rest. Instead, I did upper body strength, core, and barre. I also started a 21 day hip opening yoga sequence with Yogabody. I am excited to see where that goes and will of course be sharing it all in a few weeks.
Wednesday- core + hip mobility + upper & lower body strength + 15 min hip opening yoga
Today was Yom Kippur so I was a little time limited. However, I did sneak in a decent workout. I am still in recovery mode and still keeping the weights on the lower side for me. Day 2 of my hip opening yoga class.
Thursday- 4 mile recovery run + stretch + 15 min yoga for hips
It was nice to get back out there on a gorgeous fall day. I kept it nice and easy and it was a great recovery run.
Friday- core + 15 min hips + strength for runners
I had my inside tracker blood drawn this morning. I am really looking forward to seeing the results next week. Since I had to fast this morning, it kind of messed up my workout. Perfect timing for my recovery mode week.
Saturday- 3 mile run + stretch + 15 min hip opening yoga
It’s been a long time since we had a Moms Run This Town welcome run for new members. It warms my heart to have so many new faces join us. I had the chance to run with a few of the ladies I am training for the couch to 5K.
Sunday-On my plan 4-5 mile run + hip opening yoga
Yesterday’s run was a slow one w lots of stopping so I am heading out for a few miles today. Then, I have my booster + flu shot. I decided to just get it over with in one go.
Since it is now October, I am on board with pumpkin recipes. Have you tried my Pumpkin Spiced Baked Oatmeal yet?
Darlene says
Glad you are feeling fine and your recovery went well.
I wish I could rest but have a 15k and a half coming up.
Good luck with your shots. I had both. The flu can sometimes be just as dangerous.
Deborah Brooks says
I am feeling better than expected can’t conplain! I expect the shots to be nothing

It looks like you had a great turnout yesterday — the weather sure was perfect.
Rest — and sleep! — and yoga sound like a perfect recovery week.
Good luck with the vaccinations today — I suggest an ALW class later to help reduce the arm pain.

Yes, I am recovering as best I know how. I am not worried about the vax 🙂

Sounds like a great recovery week. How is the hip feeling? Since you’re not mentioning it I’m thinking it feels pretty good. I’m especially impressed with your TEN hours of sleep on Sunday night!!! Great way to kickoff your recovery.

Oh yes, the sleep was magical! Yes, my hip and glute are still not happy I just got tired of complaining about them

Love your friend’s HOuston shirt.
Congratulations on a solid recovery. There is absolutely nothing to gain by rushing the return, even without your glute issue. Good luck with your new MRTT crew.
Hope shots went well and you’re feeling good.

Yes, I am working hard at recovery. Still having some glute/hip issues but will figure it all out
