How did I get to the week of Philadelphia Half Marathon already?! When my friends first mentioned heading up to Philly to do the half, it seemed like I would have months to train for it. Well, a summer of calf injuries set me back a bit but none the less, here I am ready to take on Philly. Ready or not? Here I come!
I plan to run the half doing intervals and I know I will make it to the finish. It will just take me a lot longer than I’d like. I actually had anxiety dreams this week about it. So silly! Why do we do these things? This weekend is also my husband’s birthday and he is from Philly. We organized a few get togethers with his old crew so that’s a great reason to go to Philly. That and FMO! Anyway, here’s a quick snapshot of my week.
Ready or not? Here I come…
Sunday- hip hop hot yoga
Hit up a hip hop hot yoga class in NYC with good friend. While it was fun to try again, not a class I would take on a regular basis. The music is way too loud and doesn’t really “flow” with the yoga moves. The room was so dark and crowded that I could not see anything.
Monday- 60 min strength training
I always look forward to my Monday strength training session. Perfect way to start the week. My friends took me out for an early birthday dinner. Feeling very blessed to have such a wonderful group of ladies in my life. Runner friends really are the best friends.
Tuesday- 3.75 mile run
Short and sweet one today. Pretty muddy out there on the trail but loving these temps.
Wednesday- 90 min strength training /boxing
Birthday workout! Might have treated myself to both a cupcake and a piece of cake. Trying out my new Activmotion bar. (Full review coming soon) but if you are interested use fitapproach25 for 25% off. Great to have at home for strength training.
Thursday- 50 m ellipitcal
Woke up to a snowy, icy mix not ideal for outside running. Should I have done a short treadmill run? Probably but I opted for the ellipitcal instead.
Friday- travel to Philly and expo packet pick up
Saturday- Philly Half Marathon
Ready or not? Here I come! I made it through the 13.1 woo hoo. Stay tuned for the full recap this week.
Who else has run a half marathon that they did not train for?
Linking up with Wendy and hoho
Haven’t we all.
But you did it.
If you adjust your goals to enjoying the race and getting to the finish line, you can.
I hope to next Sat.
Yes sometimes you do have to adjust your goals and just go for it. Good luck to you next weekend
Congrats on Philly! To answer your question, I once ran a marathon that I hadn’t planned to run. My friend called me up the week before the race to see if I wanted to run it, so I did! It went great and we had a fun time!
Oh wow that is impressive!
Congrats on making it through the half! Sometimes I feel I do better when I am undertrained. Looks like a great week of workouts!
I have a tendency to over do things and then get injured myself. This time, I think it was better for me to be a bit undertrained
Congrats on your half! I had no doubt you’d do well. It is getting harder to run these long distances, isn’t it?
I’m with you on the hip hop yoga. I don’t think I’d like it. That’s not what I’m looking for. Maybe if we weren’t runners we’d appreciate the high energy vibe.
Have a wonderful Thanksgiving! Thankful for you!
Yes it is getting a little harder to run longer distances.I just never know how I will feel. So very thankful for you as well have a fantastic week
So glad to your finish line smile! Can’t wait for the details. I hope your whole weekend was great.
Our whole weekend was great! Thanks I am smiling because I finished and I am still walking 🙂
What a busy week for you! I’m glad that you had a good time in Philly – it’s one of my favorite cities.
I’m excited to try my activmotion bar this week. Looks like it will be great for strength training.
Philly was such a fun city to run in! I think you will the bar enjoy it’s very versatile
Your Half tights are awesome – as are your friend’s in the hip hop yoga
I need to think about doing this one – such good reviews. Hope you had a fun weekend
People really do love the hip hop yoga not sure I would do it on a regular basis but fun. We had a great weekend thanks!
Hmmm…hip-hop yoga. Not sure that would be for me either 🙂 Good for you for trying it out!
Congrats on the half! I’ve heard great things about the Philly half.
It was fun to try a new class but I did not think the music fit the movements we were doing. I had a great time in Philly thanks!
Happy birthday and congrats on another 13.1. I love the course for the half marathon. I did the full a few years ago and was REALLY wishing I had signed up for the half. I will be looking forward to reading your race report!
I really enjoyed the course super fun weekend. Thanks for the birthday wishes
Happy Birthday! You deserve to treat yourself with all the treats you want at least once a year! Congrats on the half marathon. Undertrained is much better than overtrained, in my humble opinion. Now we need the details! Thanks for linking.
Thanks so much for the birthday wishes! Philly was lots of fun
Congrats on the Philly Half!! Although I try to keep myself in constant “13.1-ready” condition, there have been many races where that base wasn’t as strong as I thought LOL This running gig keeps us humble 😉
OH so humble! I try to keep myself in more of a 10K running shape 🙂
Congrats on the race and happy belated birthday! I would treat myself to cake too.
Thanks so much! I do love a good birthday cake
Yay! Can’t wait to hear more about your race! Yeah Hip Hop and yoga just don’t seem to mesh. Dark and crowded don’t either.
I liked the idea of it but I don’t think I would do it on a regular basis. I did not feel the same yoga aah afterwards
Well, I walked a half marathon when I was injured, and I’d only walked up to 8 miles training for it. Definitely not a great way to do it.
oh wow that would be tough but way to go! there was definitely walking involved in my race
Congrats on Philly! I have definitely run a half undertrained – it’s all about adjusting your expectations, right? Looking forward to reading your recap.
Yes I certainly had to adjust my expectations! I am glad that I did it though
I do always train for my halfs. My body just doesn’t like it if I don’t (and sometimes if I do!). Congrats on another finish line! I’ll bet your husband had fun.
Well I don’t think my body was happy that I did not train but it was not as bad as I had imagined it would be. Yes my hubs had a blast in his old stomping grounds
First off – Happy Birthday!!! And second – Congrats on your half!! Sometimes I feel like I can wing races better than training for months. It’s all about your attitude!
Well that is true! My hamstrings may not agree though 🙂
Great week! I ran a half marathon today too! I’ve run one without training before and it was not very fun!
Congrats on your half as well! I am sure it would have been more fun if I had trained yes
Can’t wait for the full update! Congrats
Thanks again!
Happy birthday and congrats on the half! I look forward to reading the details 🙂
I have totally jumped into last minute races I didn’t train for. I have done suprisingly well at times too. I think the limited pressure allows me to let go of fear of failure. No expectations are nice. I look forward to your race recap! happy blogging
That is true that having lower expectations can certainly take the pressure off
Hey congrats!! Can’t wait to read the recap but glad you’re smiling at the finish with your medal – always a good sign. I just got back from running the Las Vegas RnR half last weekend and it was a blast!!
Thanks! Las Vegas half was one of my favorite all time races. It’s a blast for sure
