Prepping For The Fall Season of Girls On The Run

As many of you may know, coaching Girls on The Run (GOTR) has been a passion of mine for years. In fact, in just a few weeks, I will be starting my 8th season as a coach at the local Elementary School. These few weeks before are super busy with registration, supplies, coach training and fundraising ideas. So much goes into planning so that we are “up and running” for the season. Thanks to ShopwithScrip and Fit Approach for sponsoring this post. I’m fundraising for Girls on the Run, a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering young girls all monies raised go directly to Girls on The Run.

Prepping For The Fall Season Of Girls On The Run

Quick background on GOTR. A Non-Profit nationwide program that strives to encourage girls to be healthy, confident and active while integrating running and other physical activities into the curriculum. Throughout each 10 week program, we use activities and role playing to build self esteem and teach problem solving skills. Right up my alley indeed!

GOTR relies on volunteers (teachers, parents or community enthusiasts) to coach the girls each season. As a non profit, GOTR also relies on fundraising to keep the program fees lower and provide scholarships to those in need. Let’s face it, no one likes to fundraise and it can be awkward to continuously go to your friends and family to ask for their support. When I heard about a unique way that GOTR was fundraising on a National level with ShopWithScrip, I was more than willing to spread the word for my favorite non profit.

Fund Raising with Shop With Scrip

Just about everyone buys and uses gift cards these days to shop at their favorite stores. What if you could fund raise for your favorite organization just by buying the gift cards you would normally buy for the stores you normally shop at? It’s that easy really! Your non profit registers with ShopwithScrip and then invites your members to purchase gift cards at face value. Your organization receives funds in the form of rebates just from purchasing the gift cards linked to your organization. Your members don’t have to purchase any items they won’t ever use (popcorn, cookies or coupons) because they pick their own cards from over 700 retailers. Rebates are 2-16%  for your non profit. Seems like a no brainer to me!

Girls on The Run relies on fundraising to help subsidize some of their supplies and programs. If you’d like to join the program and help raise money for GOTR, please let me know and I will give you the details. I will be purchasing many of my  holiday gifts through ShopWithScrip and giving back at the same time. Would love to have you on my team!

Our season starts in about 2 weeks and we expect to have almost 50 3rd through 6th graders in our fall program along with 6 volunteer coaches. Can’t wait to get started again.

Tell me: Are you or your girls involved in Girls on The Run? Have you used ShopwithScrip to raise money for your non-profit?

About Deborah Brooks

Hi I'm Deborah! I spend my days successfully raising a husband & 2 teens in the VA/DC area. I am a lover of all things running & fitness. As a life long vegetarian, I've always been passionate about healthy living & exercise. Looking for partners in crime, I started my own chapter of Moms Run This Town (MRTT) which has grown to over 700 members. I've met so many amazing women who inspire me daily to keep moving forward. You can usually find me running with my crew and training for the next crazy adventure they talked me into. I love to keep up to date on new running & fitness trends. I definitely choose my running gear based on color and love to express my fashion sense while exercising.

I’ve never heard of this fundraiser but it sounds very effective! Around here, local restaurants will donate a portion of a day’s profits to help raise money for kids’ sports activities.

I still love that you do this, so inspiring! There is a run club at A’s school but it isn’t much and only a couple weeks and has gone downhill since S was in it. Hoping to get back into running next year and will be looking into a run club for A since she loves running. I know a local mom that runs a lot and her daughter does too and is a little younger, they don’t go to the same school but might reach out to her.
