Thanks for joining Kim and me for the weekly run down today. This week, I have been globetrotting around the UAE from Abu Dhabi to Dubai. Here is a peek into my week of fitness and fun and sightseeing.
Postcards from The UAE
Sunday- 8 mile hike Petra
We hit the Petra ruins for the second day of hiking and exploring. This time we hiked up to The Monastery at the highest point. This was quite a trek! It was very hot and I was super tired at the end. The views were worth the climb! * miles round trip with over 102 flights of elevation.
Monday- Travel to Abu Dhabi
We had another early morning wake up and drive back to Amman to catch our flight to Abu Dhabi in the UAE. It was a balmy 108 degrees when we landed!
I was super sore this morning from our hike yesterday. A Peloton stretch and core were all I got in.
Tuesday- 20 min Peloton bike + core + touring Abu Dhabi 4 miles of walking
I finally had a chance to visit the hotel gym where I did a quick cycle class and core with weights. We spent the rest of the day touring The Sheik Zayed Mosque and the Royal Palace. I shared some of my thoughts in Friday’s Ultimate Coffee Date post.
My calves are still sore from that crazy hike on Sunday!
Wednesday- 5 mile run + core + stretch
Well, I may not know what time zone I am in but I did know it was Global Running Day and I was not going to miss that. Because it was 11 degrees, I opted for a treadmill. Mind you, it’s been a minute since I have run on the mill. I got some Peloton class suggestions from my Peloton peeps and headed to the gym. I should not have been surprised that it was in KM’s! I had no idea how fast I was running and my watch was not calibrated for indoor running. Oh well, I could figure out that I ran 5 miles so we will call it a win!
I went outside for a victory lap and a photo. Seriously, I don’t know how people deal with this heat! I have never sweat so much in my life.
Later we saw the Top Gun movie in a crazy nice and super modern moving theatre. It was so good!
Thursday- 5 miles of walking (Ferrari World) +stretch + yoga for feet
We visited Ferrari World, home of the world’s fastest roller coaster! The whole entire park is inside so that is different. I skipped the fast roller coaster but the rest of the family loved it. I did not make it to the gym today but did get in 5 miles of walking. I am very off schedule!
The Peloton yoga for feet class is fantastic!
Friday- Travel to Dubai (stretch + Peloton core class)
We traveled by car to Dubai this morning. (about 1 1/2 hours from Abu Dhabi). Thankfully, it is slightly cooler here only 99. We spent the afternoon at the pool of this magnificent hotel. I thought the buildings were large and impressive in Abu Dhabi, but things are just massive here. This was my least active day so far and I am starting to feel it!
Saturday- 5 mile run +stretch + core
I finally got that run in here in Dubai. My son was doing a skydiving jump and we had to be there early. I decided this was the day to try to get it done. It was already 86 at 7 am but I got it done. I was only about 25 sec per mile off of my usual pace. My daughter and I toured the Dubai Mall. It is gigantic and overwhelming and amazing all at the same time.
Sunday- on the plan some gym time + touring
I hope to get up early and get some strength training in before we tour The Museum of the Future. In the evening we have an “Arabian Nights” desert experience. More details on that later!
Thanks for following along on my adventures through the UAE. We have another week of globetrotting coming up!

Wow, what an incredible trip!!! Yes, you have to wonder how people live and thrive in that heat all the time. I love how the treadmill was in kilometers (of course it was!)- I would be baffled by that too. So special that you’re taking this trip with your son and daughter! What an amazing experience for all of you.
Deborah Brooks says
It has been an amazing experience to share together. I have no idea how people manage in this heat but I guess they just adapt
