One Happy Island Weekly Run Down

Thanks for joining Kim and me for the Weekly Run Down. We are settling into our first week of holiday vacation here on Aruba. It’s our “One Happy Island” and we have been returning here yearly for the past 12 years or so. You know I like to keep active when I travel, here is a peek into my week of fitness island style.

weekly run down

Monday- 3 mile run w intervals + core + barre + stretch

I switched up my run days and headed out for a nice easy interval paced run. My training schedule calls for easy runs as a cut back week and this was the perfect place to take advantage.

One happy island

Side note: I realized a few days ago that I was possibly, perhaps within range of hitting 15K minutes on Peloton this year. Since I do not use any guided runs or walks, that is a lot of minutes to achieve. Why not give it a try?! I am going to be close for sure.

Tuesday-core + upper body + barre

I got in a good 75 min of Peloton classes today and then promptly sat at the pool reading the rest of the day. We went to our favorite on the beach restaurant for dinner. The tables are literally in the water and it’s the best sunset view on the island.

One happy island

Wednesday-Peloton upper body + core + barre + mobility + walk

Sometimes, it rains in paradise. I was ready to head out for my run this morning when it started pouring. It only rained for a short time but then the sun was just too strong to head out. No worries! I have Peloton minutes to accrue. I got in my strength work and then read by the pool. Later, in the afternoon, I took a nice a walk down to the beach.

One happy island

Thursday- Easy 3 mile run/walk/photos + barre + core + stretch

A very easy paced run with  lots of photo stops. Gotta love the sound of the ocean waves. I am hammering away at my Peloton minutes striving for that 15K badge.

One happy island

While I wish they would wait until the end of the month to send these out, Peloton sends you a little video with all of your accomplishments over the year. I am happy to see that strength was the most completed classes followed by stretching. Those were my focus this year in addition to running.

Friday- barre + core + upper body strength + stretch

A maintenance Peloton stack of workouts today. I did not do much else the rest of the day except read by the pool. In fact, I finished 3 books this week! Might be a record for me. I thoroughly enjoyed each and every one of these. If you like legal thrillers w a little psch thrown in, The Perfect Marriage is so good.

The love of my life was so not what I expected and I couldn’t put it down either. “I’ll be you” is the kind of page turning thriller that Janelle Brown is known for. I am now out of books!

We went to the most romantic restaurant last night. You can check my IG for all the pics. Nothing like dining right on the beach under the stars.

One happyisland

Saturday- 2 mile easy run + stretch + barre

It was a toasty run this morning! Only had time for a quick one before we checked out of our villa. Our kids are both arriving today and we are moving to a different place on the more exciting side of town. We will spend another week here with them.

Seen on my run

Sunday- Peloton strength workouts on the plan

I am not exactly sure what I am going to do today!

About Deborah Brooks

Hi I'm Deborah! I spend my days successfully raising a husband & 2 teens in the VA/DC area. I am a lover of all things running & fitness. As a life long vegetarian, I've always been passionate about healthy living & exercise. Looking for partners in crime, I started my own chapter of Moms Run This Town (MRTT) which has grown to over 700 members. I've met so many amazing women who inspire me daily to keep moving forward. You can usually find me running with my crew and training for the next crazy adventure they talked me into. I love to keep up to date on new running & fitness trends. I definitely choose my running gear based on color and love to express my fashion sense while exercising.

Great week of workouts in such a fabulous place!! My Peloton summary video was interesting… I rack up many more workouts (and minutes) in the colder months due to all the indoor cycling. Kind of skewed, but oh well 🙂 Enjoy your family time in Paradise & don’t be jealous of all the cold weather I’m enjoying this week, ha!

I did way less cycling this year and much more strength. My top instructor turned out to be Rebecca although I really think it was Daniel. Oh well, I am very happy with my consistency. Onward!

Yesterday, I had the same thought–why does everyone do ‘year end’ reports when the year isn’t over? LOL. Anyhoo, you really crushed it this year. I know you’ll hit that 15K minutes. I mean, look at where you are! I wouldn’t want to stop moving. Enjoy your week with the kids!

Thanks! My husband thinks it is weird that I randomly get up and go do a 10 min stretch mid day for the minutes to count. But hey, we are a weird bunch! I am determined to get there

Yes, the kids need to be more in the mix of things at this age. Happy Hanukkah to you as well!

I love how you fit in your workouts while on vacation – working out, reading by the pool, followed by dinner and drinks sounds perfect to me! Enjoy your kids this coming week!

It seems like all the “end of year” things like Strava and Spotify came out way too early 🙂

Looks like a lovely and relaxing trip. I love your bright yellow tank on your first run pic!

Reading by the pool is amazing! I loved all 3 of these books. I never read this fast!

You have to get some new books! That sounds like an amazing vacation- getting a good workout in early and reading for the rest of the day. I LOVE the photo of that restaurant where the tables are literally in the water- what a fun place. And also the photo of you running on the beach- your arms look so muscular! Good luck with that Peloton goal. I’m looking forward to hearing about your week on the “exciting” side of town!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      12/18/2022 at 4:51 pm

The tables in the water are so unique and fun. I credit those arms to Peloton for sure and thank you!

Looks like you’re having a wonderful time 🙂

I agree that I wish Peloton would not send out the cooldown with a couple of weeks still to go – I’d much rather receive it in early January. Ah well. Something tells me that you’re going to get to that 15K mark.

Enjoy your week with the kids!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      12/18/2022 at 4:52 pm

I am trying really hard to get there! I think I may just make it 🙂

Yay reading. Thanks for the recs. Going on Mt. TBR for my January vacas.
Why not give it a try? — such a good motto! I know you’ll enjoy the chase even if you don’t get to 15K. That total is AMAZING.
Re: moving to the other side of the island, I think you’ll be near my boss. You two are killing me in the best possible way with the pics. <3 Love the idea of eating in the water.

The tables in the water are so romantic and fun for a change. I did love the books and I have never read so much in one week. I think I just might make that 15K (or die trying!)

Looks like a wonderful place for both running, strength training and good dinners and other leisure! Good work with your strength and other workouts this week. I totally agree about the sound of waves – nothing beats it. I love sitting on a rock just watching, and listening to, the sea.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      12/19/2022 at 3:08 pm

      I agree it’s so peaceful!

Love that you’re so active while in Aruba, and the photos are absolutely gorgeous!

I have a feeling you will hit the 15K mark for Peloton this year. If you need a few extra classes, throw in some meditations and extra stretches! 🙂

    • Deborah Brooks says

      12/19/2022 at 3:09 pm

Literally every time my husband comes in the room I am doing a 10 min stretch or barrre LOL
