Thanks for joining Coco and me for the October Ultimate Coffee Date linkup today. By popular demand, we have moved to start our coffee dates on Friday. Feel free to link up all weekend. We have lots to chat about today and my favorite way to catch up with friends is over coffee dates. Let’s get right to it!

October Ultimate Coffee Date

I received samples of Gatorade Endurance to review as part of being a BibRave Pro. Learn more about becoming a BibRave Pro (ambassador), and check out BibRave.com to find race reviews.

If we were having coffee, I would tell you…

I am still anxiously awaiting those amazing October temps I’ve been dreaming of. We actually hit 90 degrees yesterday! I wonder if we will go right to winter and skip fall all together?

If we were having coffee, I would tell you…

My son is home for fall break this weekend and this mama could not be happier to have her baby back in the nest for the weekend. I will need to get all those hugs and snuggles in to last me until Thanksgiving break.

If we were having coffee, I would tell you…

I just had to hop on one of the Bird scooters and check it out when on the Indiana campus a few weeks ago. I know some people think they are a nuisance in big cities, on college campuses they are fantastic. Cheap and easy and lots of fun.

October Ultimate Coffee Date

If we were having coffee, I would tell you…

Now that I am increasing my mileage to train for Ragnar and the Philly half, I need a little more than water to fuel my runs. Gatorade was the first sports drink I ever tried and I’ve stuck with it ever since. Because so many races use Gatorade Endurance on the course, it suits me well to train with it. That way, no surprises with hydration on race day.

Let’s catch up over #Coffee @BirdRide #GEndurance #Bibchat #Bibravepro

October Ultimate Coffee Date

As a Bib Rave Pro, I received samples of the new watermelon Gatorade Endurance just in time for my training cycle. I like the subtle watermelon flavor and the fact that the powder can be mixed to my taste by adding more or less water. The powder version is also super easy to travel with and mix later. It contains twice the sodium and 3 times the potassium to help me replenish what I’ve sweated out. I am such a sweater! Now that I know it works well for me and my training, I will be taking it along with me to my destination races this fall.

Thanks for joining the October Ultimate Coffee Date. Tell me-Ever tried to ride a Bird? Do you train with the sports drink that will be offered at your race? What would you tell me over coffee?

ooooh, that watermelon flavor sounds enticing! The pic of you on the scooter is fun 😉

I like the new flavor it’s refreshing. The scooter was fun to try. Do they have them on your daughter’s campus?

The Bird scooters are so cute! I recall seeing scooters in San Diego and LA. Very fun for a college town. Enjoy having your son home!

The birds are fun. I am so happy to have him home even just for a few days

I keep reading all the articles about people ending up in the ER because they ride those scooters like idiots… I think they look like fun, but they are all.over my neighborhood.

I’m a long time Gatorade fan, but it seems like a lot of races aren’t using it anymore.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      10/05/2018 at 7:20 am

I have seen some people using the scooters like idiots and riding them on the street instead of sidewalks. I guess there is no accounting for idiots! My Philadelphia half and the marathon both use Gatorade endurance this year so that’s a big helps for me.

  4. Wendy says

    10/05/2018 at 6:28 am

Indiana has a fall break? Wisconsin does not. But they do start later, so maybe that’s why? We’re facing Indiana in rugby this weekend!

I used Gatorade Endurance for one of my Chicago Marathons. It’s what they offer on the course. It was good!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      10/05/2018 at 7:24 am

Yes they just have the one day off today actually but it’s close enough that he can fly home for the weekend. I love knowing he is tucked into his bed upstairs. Yep they will be using Gatorade Endurance at the Philly races as well next month so good for my training

  5. Maureen @ Maureen Gets Real says

    10/05/2018 at 6:39 am

I’m waiting for the cool October temps as well! It’s weird because we’ll have cooler weather one day then it’ll be back to 80 the next.

    Enjoy having your son home!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      10/05/2018 at 7:28 am

Yes same here it’s frustrating bc it never seems to be cooler on my running days!

  6. Judy @ Chocolaterunsjudy says

    10/05/2018 at 7:56 am

I actually do only use water in a race. I drink Nuun before & after, but use HS Chews & Saltstick Chews for electrolytes (when I remember) during the race.

That’s great that you scored a free sample & it works for you!

Enjoy your weekend with your son — they go too fast.

We have actually enjoyed some fall weather. Sandwiched around still summer-like temps. Makes life a wee bit difficult.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      10/05/2018 at 2:08 pm

It does make life challenging with the crazy weather! I like the chews as well need all the help I can get

  7. The Accidental Marathoner says

    10/05/2018 at 9:28 am

It was 88 degrees here on Wednesday, then 45 degrees the following day. WTF. It’s cold and rainy today. Can’t we just find a happy medium? I haven’t tried a Bird scooter. I’d probably kill myself or someone else. My son came home from IU fro the weekend last night. I am with you – never so happy as when my kids are home!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      10/05/2018 at 2:09 pm

enjoy your weekend with your son too! Mamas are always happy to have their babies at home 🙂

  8. Lesley says

    10/05/2018 at 2:04 pm

I use Nuun, and the only race I’ve done that uses it is Bolder Boulder. All others seem to use Gatorade or Powerade. Since I’m doing shorter races, I’ll have Nuun already mixed and waiting in my car for after the race.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      10/05/2018 at 2:12 pm

Definitely important to find out what works best for you!

  9. Becca | Rabbit Food Runner says

    10/05/2018 at 2:48 pm

Never even heard of Bird scooters. I like the idea a lot though! But were they annoying to have on the sidewalks too? If we were having coffee I’d tell you about the Berlin Marathon! I posted a recap (finally) just before the craziness of the Chicago Marathon weekend begins.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      10/05/2018 at 2:50 pm

I did not know you were doing Chicago as well! exciting

  10. Farrah says

    10/05/2018 at 3:26 pm

Whew! 90 degrees?! That’s pretty amazing! It cooled down significantly over here and I’m kinda missing the warmer weather.

That watermelon flavor sounds really refreshing! :]

    • Deborah Brooks says

      10/05/2018 at 4:49 pm

Oh I am so ready for cooler weather!

  11. [email protected] says

    10/05/2018 at 5:11 pm

Watermelon gate raid sounds delicious. I need to try that on the golf course, I get so thirsty in the hot sun. Speaking of which, I hope you get that cooler weather, me on the other hand…you can have it.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      10/06/2018 at 6:26 am

you definitely seem to be enjoying your time down there! Happy golfing

  12. Debbie says

    10/05/2018 at 6:41 pm

I’m glad your son is home to visit, but it seems like he just left! Oh well, it warms this mama’s heart to know your boy is home for a bit. 🙂

They had those scooters in San Diego when I was there for Blogfest, but I was a little afraid to try them. They really are pretty handy. I just figured I’d end up on my butt!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      10/06/2018 at 6:27 am

They are great to short distances in a hurry and pretty easy to balance on. Yes I am so happy to have my son home for the weekend

  13. Cari says

    10/05/2018 at 8:35 pm

Love the idea of powdered for easy travel. Propel was my go-to all summer. I’ve done gatorade at a couple super hot races, but I have to cut it wiht water. Just way too sweet for me.
    Those scooters look awesome!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      10/06/2018 at 6:31 am

That is the nice thing about powdered versions-you can alter the taste to your liking. The scooters are lots of fun hope you have the chance to try one

  14. Fairytales and fitness says

    10/06/2018 at 8:18 am

I was thinking the exact same thing about our weather here too. It’s still warm and I’m not complaining one bit but I do hope we get to experience the cooler fall temps before heading straight to winter. -M

    • Deborah Brooks says

      10/06/2018 at 1:59 pm

      yes me too!

  15. Erica @ Erica Finds says

    10/06/2018 at 8:37 pm

We had 84 here this week and I was not amused. I’m over it!

The Bird scooters are great on campus. I did not enjoy almost getting mowed down in Santa Monica and Baltimore. Plus people leave them all over. I like the bike stations better to keep it organized. Too Type A?!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      10/07/2018 at 5:09 pm

Yes I think they work better not in the cities! The weather ugh hoping this week is better

  16. Debbie @ Deb Runs says

I hope you’re having a wonderful weekend with your son! One of my sons was here for the weekend and just left. It was so fun having him, his girlfriend, and their pup visit!

    Thanks for the linkup!
