October 2022 Ultimate Coffee Date
If we were having coffee, I would tell you…
I am loving that custom pillow that I mentioned a while back. I’ve been sleeping with my new Pluto pillow for 3 weeks now. It really does seem to be the closest thing I have found to a pillow concierge. I am quite happy! You simply answer a few questions about your sleeping habits and they design your “perfect pillow”.You can get $10 off your pillow if you’d like to try it.

My couch to 5K group (that I am coaching) is doing fantastic. I have 12 participants and they are in week 6 of 9. I will have the opportunity to meet and run with a few of them in person tomorrow at our MRTT Fall Welcome Run. How exciting is that? I love sharing my passion for running with new runners and I hope they will eventually join our regular group runs. This is their run schedule for this week.
If we were having coffee, I would tell you…
I am using the month of October to do a mini reset of my own nutrition. After all the travel this summer, it is time for me to reign it in. The holiday season is always so busy and full of gatherings and yes, more travel for us. I am back to paying more attention to my macros, especially protein. I have my nutrition clients keep track of theirs on My Fitness Pal and I am back on keeping track of mine as well a few times a week. I learned so much when I first started tracking.
That’s about all I’ve got today! If we were having coffee, what would you tell me?
Darlene says
It’s so rewarding to work with new runners. I hope to do it again next spring.
I need a re-set after this past weekend. Too many lobster rolls and French fries. All that snacking. Ugh.
Deborah Brooks says
Yes, I know October is a good month to do it before the holidays
Wendy says
That’s great that you are coaching that run group! It has to feel so good to lead them!
I feel you on the nutrition reset. I’m continually battling my waistline–if i could give up wine, I know I’d be better off, lol
Deborah Brooks says
I have to work to keep up the protein but I feel better when I do it. Yes, I am enjoying coaching the new runners and should be fun to run w them tomorrow
Marcia says
Aww your run group is doing great! How fun! Yeah its tough to stay on track with food when we travel. I’ve been very good about avoiding added sugars for 6 weeks now and I’m dreading Halloween and the holidays.
Deborah Brooks says
Sugar makes a huge difference for me too. Not having kids in the house anymore, I won’t have any Halloween candy. We don’t get much foot traffic here so I will buy one bag day of and give it all away
Coco says
I love that you a coaching a C25K group! You should have great weather for the welcome run on Sunday.
My nutrition downfall lately has been not cooking dinner. Between not being inspired and it being too easy to do “one more thing” at work until it’s “too late” to fix something, I am barely cooking twice a week.
Deborah Brooks says
I like to meal prep a few veggies for the week that I can throw into different meals it helps a lot. Yes, I am enjoying coaching the new runners & I am excited to run with them
Michelle says
That’s great that you’re coaching a run group – always fun to share the love of running with newbies 🙂
I definitely let the macros tracking go in the business of the end of the summer and have yet to climb back on the bandwagon – but I need to before the holidays roll in!
Deborah Brooks says
Yes, I am enjoying coaching my group it’s really rewarding. I also wanted to jump back on before the holidays 🙂
Jenny says
Wow, that is very cool about your runners! I assume they’re all training for an actual 5k? I can’t to find out how they do.
Yes, this is a great time to get eating back under control. There will definitely be some indulgences (for all of us) coming up in November-December, but eating well now will help a lot. I remember my sister once telling me that she waited until the day before Christmas to make cookies- that way she just had them for a couple days and was done- as opposed to indulging for the entire month of December.
Deborah Brooks says
Yes, I will be running an actual 5K with them Halloween weekend. Costume ready! I tell my nutrition clients that it is less important what they eat btwn Thanksgiving and Christmas as is what they eat btwn Christmas and Thanksgiving
Kimberly Hatting says
I’m glad to hear about the C25K group! I have often thought to initiate a similar program locally (there probably already is one, but I’ve never taken the time to find it). It would be fun, and I’m sure quite rewarding, to be a part of that!
Deborah Brooks says
You would have fun leading a group like that as well!
Jenn says
All of these things sound great. Resets can always be super beneficial and I hope you get a lock on your goals. I know you will, though 🙂
Deborah Brooks says
Thanks Jenn
Erica @ Erica Finds says
I need to check on this pillow!
It’s so fun coaching new runners!
After NYC Marathon and through mid-December, I always try to clean up my eating before holiday festivities!
Deborah Brooks says
It is fun coaching new runners! I am really enjoying it
Chocolaterunsjudy says
I still want to know how you have the energy to run, travel, coach, and nutrition coach!
I really think my eating in general is fairly good, but I’m heavier than I’ve been in a while which doesn’t make me happy. Not quite sure if it’s just stress, more menopausal symptoms . . . or what. I just keep plugging along at it though.
Deborah Brooks says
ha I do have lots of energy! My eating is pretty good overall but now is a good time to reset for me
Fairytalesandfitness says
Oh I may have to check out that pillow. I have been having neck pain lately but I suppose that is the result of sharing a pillow with my Labrador. Lol
Deborah Brooks says
I have gone through a number of pillows!
Farrah says
I woke up a few months ago with excruciating neck pain, so I kinda stopped sleeping with a pillow and it’s been better ever since. I kinda miss having a pillow though so the Pluto pillow definitely does sound intriguing!
It’s so hard getting back into a routine but I’m hoping to start cooking and keeping track of my nutrition as well.
Deborah Brooks says
Oh wow I cannot imagine sleeping without a pillow!
Cari says
I’m with you on the re-set of nutrition. Now that the weather has stabilized I can more easily see what’s water retention and what is weight, and time for the latter to vamoose. We won’t talk about the last hurrah that involved french toast sticks.
A good pillow is a game changer. I like mine, but off to investigate yours. Oddly the one I fell in love with was just one mom / Bob bought at a rooms to go and didn’t like so it moved to guest room where I fell in love.
Zenaida Arroyo says
I will check out that pillow. Mine are too flat and could be contributing who why I am not sleeping well. How fun to be coaching a group! They have the perfect coaching leading them.
Deborah Brooks says
I highly recommend the pillow! I am loving coaching the new kids they are doing great
Debbie @ Deb Runs says
I think I need to travel with a pillow! I like thin pillows that don’t strain my neck by being too high off the bed. Our hotel in Bar Harbor had all new extremely thick pillows, and needless to say, my neck hurt. I ended up getting up in the middle of the night to go out to our car to get some towels to use as a thinner makeshift pillow. I learned that towels don’t make good pillows. LOL
Deborah Brooks says
I do sometimes travel with my own pillow and I am always happy when I do
Jenn says
This is all super great news! We are doing Couch To 5K again (on our own) and it’s going well, too. It’s such a great reset.
Deborah Brooks says
It is a great program and I am enjoying coaching them
