Thanks for joining Coco and me for the first coffee date of the new year. What better way to catch up than over a cup of coffee. Grab your mugs and let’s chat.
New Year Ultimate Coffee ☕️ Date
If we were having coffee, I would tell you…
This January weather are having is nutty. I know I missed the arctic freeze while I was traveling but this week it is feeling more like April around here. I had to laugh when I saw this Facebook photo memory from a year ago. We don’t get too much snow in the DC area so it’s always a big deal when we do. Are you having crazy warm weather for January?
If we were having coffee, I would tell you…
This month we are celebrating 10 years of our MRTT-Moms Run This Town group. You have heard me gush over my group many times over the years. To say that this group changed my life would be an understatement. The women I have met inspire me on a daily basis to be the best I can be in and out of my running shoes. I am so grateful to have this community. Not only have they pushed me to try new experiences and step out of my comfort zone, so many of them have become my forever friends. I can’t believe we are over 800 mother runners strong. 10 years ago I literally created my Facebook profile so that I could create the group. I really did not get social media ha! Who knew?
If we were having coffee, I would tell you…
You may remember me telling you about the small biz social society conference I attended last summer. They are hosting a free event on Tuesday with interesting insight and tips on all things social. If you are interested in learning how to optimize LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, or TikTok we would love to have you join us. Yours truly will be discussing Facebook trends for 2023. Register here to join us.
Your turn now! If we were having coffee, what would you tell me?
Kimberly Hatting says
Shoot, I have a conflict with the social media event on Tuesday, or else I’d consider taking off work to check it out. All that snow a year ago! We are not having your April-like weather in January, but we did have a couple days of it a week ago (in late December, LOL). I wish it would have stayed around for awhile, like until the real April gets here.
Deborah Brooks says
It has been wacky weather wise around here for sure! Too bad you have a conflict for Tuesday
Wendy says
I wish I could attend your SM event on Tuesday, but I will be in the thick of seeing patients. Will there be access to a recorded event? So excited for you to be the FB expert!
We’re having seasonal temperatures, which is just fine by me. Except that it’s the old freeze/thaw thing and that makes it treacherous for running.
It’s truly amazing how large your MRTT group is!
Deborah Brooks says
You know that’s a good question-I have to see if there is a recorded option. I will let you know thanks
Marcia says
Congrats on building such an amazing SRTT group! The weather here is on the mild now after the arctic blast we had over Christmas. All the best with your conference. I’ll look at my schedule and try to make it!
Deborah Brooks says
Great I think you might enjoy it!
Coco says
I guess you brought the nice weather back from Aruba, but I think it’s heading back home this weekend. 🙂
Yay on the 10 year anniversary of MRTT. It’s such a wonderful community of women, and you do so much to support your chapter.
Deborah Brooks says
I am so happy to have them all in my life!
Michelle says
Congrats on 10 yrs of MRTT! You’ve created a great group.
Looks like a great social media conference. Tuesdays are my in-office days so unfortunately I can’t swing attending. Best of luck with the event!
Deborah Brooks says
Thanks I am a little nervous about it but should be fun!
Darlene S Cardillo says
Congrats on your MRTT running group!! That’s great.
I have an informal one – Sole Sisters. They are amazing (I went to Maine with them). We support each other in running but in all other areas too. We text each other all the time. I feel lucky to have them.
Our weather has been rainy lately but unusually warm… snow has melted. I hope it never returns.
Deborah Brooks says
Finding a group of women that support each other is key! Glad you have one too
Debbie says
How great to have made so many friends through the MRTT chapter you started. I just might be able to make the virtual social media event and will definitely join if it works out!
Deborah Brooks says
oh that would be great!
Erica @ Erica Finds says
Very cool about your MRTT group and how that decision 10 years ago has really changed your life! My blog has so many positive unintended consequences, too!
It’s warmer than normal here, too, but not tank top weather!
Deborah Brooks says
the tank top days are over again 🙂 we are back to our normal weather
Jenny says
There are 800 runners in your MRRT group? That’s incredible! What an amazing thing to have created.
Our weather here is finally seasonal… meaning, it’s beautiful. January is probably our best month. Today is in the 70s and low humidity, and low 60s for my run this morning. If only it could only be like this!
Chocolaterunsjudy says
Look what you created! That’s truly amazing. Congrats!
We are warmer than usual, but that means 30s & 40s & rain. At least I don’t have to shovel rain. 🙂
Deborah Brooks says
I am so thankful and grateful to have them all in my life!
Cari says
How awesome to be chosen as a presenter for the event, and CONGRATS on ten years. That’s some amazing work and lives shaped.
Weather here is drunk too but I’ll take it.
Deborah Brooks says
I am so happy that our group has morphed into such a community!
Catrina says
I remember reading about the 800 runners in your sidebar and being very impressed!
Well done! It’s an incredible feat.
What are you going to do to celebrate the 10th anniversary?
Deborah Brooks says
thanks I love them so much! We are having a birthday celebration in 2 weeks
Renée says
I was just saying this morning how WEIRD the weather is! it felt like spring at parkrun this morning! Congrats on 10 years MRTT! I totally get what you mean about the community. It’s so amazing how one seemingly “little” thing can create forever friends, not to mention massive amounts of inspiration!
happy new year Deborah!
Deborah Brooks says
It really just warms my heart to see how our community has grown into what it has xoxo
Farrah says
We’ve been having a tonnnn of rain, which has been unheard of for California for ages. Terms like “atmospheric river” and “bomb cyclone” have been thrown around, so it definitely doesn’t feel like I’m actually in CA right now, haha.
That’s awesome that it’s been 10 years!! It sounds like such a great community. <3
I wish I could check out that event! I've been meaning to get back into actually blogging again — it's been a while. :[
Deborah Brooks says
I am thrilled that our grown has grown into the community that it has
Jenn says
Ooh that conference sounds awesome. I’m going to try to attend!
Deborah Brooks says
That would be great would love to have you attend
Shathiso says
Congratulations on that 10-year anniversary with the MRTT group! What a huge achievement!
Imagine – you didn’t get social media, and now you’ll be talking at an event as a FB expert! Just goes to show you how much change can happen if we embrace it as you have so beautifully done! If we were having coffee, I’d tell you I had such a great holiday with the family and being back feels hard!
Deborah Brooks says
I know some things just happen for a reason! Glad you had a nice holiday season
Zenaida Arroyo says
I do wish I had a group like you. Even though I am an introvert and not so much a group person, I still like to hang out and do fun things.
Deborah Brooks says
I imagine there must be so many running groups in Chicago you could join
