You all know how much I love to cook and, I do say, I pride myself on getting homemade dinners on the table most nights of the week. But let’s get real, life is busy sometimes and we don’t always have the time to run to the store multiple times per week to grab all the fresh ingredients we need to whip up a spectacular and healthy dinner. (I hope I am not the only one that finds herself at the grocery store every other day). When I was offered the chance to try out some of the Sun Basket Meals, I jumped at it.
Enter Sun Basket Meals
Sun Basket Meal kits are gourmet meals that are sent right to you, ready to cook and get on the table for your family to enjoy. You still have to do the cooking and can also customize the meals further to suit your tastes but the high quality ingredients are all there for you. My kids call them “Master Chef boxes” and for some reason tend to find them more appealing than meals that I cook. Go figure!
We tried this family friendly 2 bean chili mac ‘n’ cheese with lime yogurt first. Funny how eager my son was to taste it even though he swears he “hates beans”. It’s easy to spice it up to your taste level.
Sun Basket offers high quality organic & Non-GMO ingredients as well as grass fed and hormone free meats and seafood. Sun Basket understands that diners have different tastes and offer meals to suit paleo, gluten free and vegetarian meals geared toward families.
What’s different about Sun Basket?
I’ve tried a few other meal delivery services and one thing I noticed with other boxes was how complicated some of the recipes were. The 2 Sun Basket meals I prepared were super easy and were done in around 30 minutes. For a weeknight family meal that’s pretty reasonable in my book.
The variety of flavors is unique. The Miso Ramen Bowls with Braised Tofu and bok choy introduced me to a bunch of Korean spices that were new to me and that I loved. I can’t wait to purchase them and try to replicate the soup myself. My husband and son, who normally would not come near a vegetable soup, both ended up “sampling” a nice helping for themselves. The hard boiled egg suggestion was a great addition and really made the bowl special.
The Sun Basket meals are geared towards families cooking together which has always been something we love to do as a family. The instruction booklet has specific tasks that are suggested just for little chefs to help out with.
The “green” nature of the insulated packaging was like nothing I have ever seen. All the packaging rolls up and can be recycled-kind of cool in my book.
Take out meals and meal delivery services can get expensive for sure. All the Sun Basket family meals are designed to feed 2 adults and 2 kids. You can try Sun Basket at 50% off of your first order this link .
Tell me-Have you cooked with subscription boxes before? What is your biggest dinner time struggle?
Linking up
Ive never tried one of these services but have always been intrigued. I think the hardest part for me is being tired when I get home from work and not wanting to spend the time doing the prep, cooking, and clean up. 30 minutes sounds like a reasonable amount of time to get it together.
Yes it is nice to have all the ingredients in the right amounts right there for you ready to go
I REALLY REALLY want to try sunbasket. I need some meal inspo and I need it to be healthy!
I liked it a lot better than some of the other boxes I have tried in the past.
I’m glad that you had a positive experience with Sun Basket! I haven’t tried this company yet but I have tried Blue Apron and Hello Fresh. Both were fine but I didn’t like the high calorie counts for some of the meals.
Yes I agree you really have to pay attention to what is in the meals that you order. While cooking at home is still usually healthier you do have to be aware of the ingredients and how they fit into your day
I have used blue apron before and like it, but have been wanting to try sunbasket, I love that they have meals for a variety of different diets and use organic ingredients.
I was really pleased with the quality of the ingredients and the variety of meal options. Hope you give it a try
I have enjoyed the different services i have tried. I have not tried this one. They really do amp up your cooking skills or for me at least! I love that every single ingredient is provided and you are not on some goose chase looking for something in the grocery store. Nice review!
Yes exactly they are perfect for busy people and those who want to try to explore different cooking techniques
I’ve heard great things about Sun Basket! Love that the recipes aren’t so complicated. I agree that some of these boxes are way too much!
Yes indeed they are. This is super reasonable especially with the discount now
I love the idea of a little help in the kitchem occasionally. Do they have vegan options? The Miso Ramen bowl sounds delicious and looks like it’s probably vegan.
Yes some of the vegetarian meals are in fact vegan. The ramen noodles had soy milk so they certainly have options. Their meals change weekly
The only subscription food thing I tried was Green Blender and I loved that! I just can’t justify the extra cost when, with a little planning, I can go to the store and buy all the ingredients. But for convenience, you can’t beat these services!
I agree with you that you can certainly go to the store and make all of these yourself. I think they are great for people who otherwise might not have the time to go get the stuff and it is cheaper than ordering out for the most part.
I’ve never tried subscription services but I love the idea. My biggest dinner time struggle is my picky eaters! I feel like I rotate the same dinners each week!
I struggled with that when my kids were younger but it has gotten better as they have aged.
I have never tried a food service but I love that these can be made in around 30 minutes. I am ALL about quick and healthy!
Yes me too they were super easy and opened me up to some new spices
I never cooked with a subscription box before Deborah! Now I’m intrigued…:) Looks great!
It’s a great option for families for a busy week
I took a look, and I appreciate the organic ingredients and healthy nature of the meals, but I see that only one of the three recipes for this week is vegetarian. How can that work for a vegetarian (or pescetarian in our case) family? Also, and this may be a dumb question, how can they ship the meat? Must be with a frozen pack…
I just took a look and 5 of the 11 meals are vegetarian for next week so lots of choices. They send everything in ice packs yes refrigerated but not frozen. Take a look again happy to help out if I can
Hmm I obviously didn’t navigate properly as I didn’t see all those recipes– sounds promising though!
Yes check it out!
Oh, I’ll have to look into this one. I’ve been trying Blue Apron and like their food for the most part but there’s so much packaging!
I find these meals to be a little less complicated but with lots of great flavors
I have gotten a few subscription meal boxes and I did find them very pricy and the portion sizes very small and ended up eating it all in one setting.
I was the only one that really ate these but it was a ton of food and at least 3 meals I got out of each one
That ramen looks SOO good. Looks like a really awesome meal delivery service!
The ramen was fabulous and I loved all of the seasonings
I’m probably one of the few remaining people who has never had a meal subscription service. I can see the convenience of using them, though. The biggest struggle is figuring out what to make…I’ve never been very skilled at meal planning, especially now that I never know day-to-day who will actually be at the table LOL (our schedules are all so varied). I don’t mind leftovers, and the hubby will sometimes eat them, but the kids won’t touch them. UGH.
My family will not really eat left overs too often either-I love them though. The meal boxes definitely take the guess work out of what to make. I liked that I discovered some new seasonings and I will be replicating the soup again soon
I’ve tried Blue Apron before but haven’t tried Sun Basket yet. I want to try it! That mac and cheese looks awesome. The only downside I found with subscription box meals is that I find it usually doesn’t make enough for leftovers for the next day, which is what we typically eat for lunch. But that’s the trade off for quick, pre-thought-out dinner I suppose! 🙂
The meals I had were pretty generous but I guess it would depend on how many people were eating them
I do love the convenience of meal delivery. I don’t always have time to plan and shop, so having everything I need delivered is so awesome.
Yes exactly!
I haven’t done a dinner box yet, but my aunt keeps trying to get me to do Blue Apron. I can definitely see how they would be super helpful. We just started our summer CSA so I think once fall hits I’m going to look into the subscription boxes a little more.
I skipped the summer CSA and usually only do it in the fall and winter. I am more motivated to go find my own veggies in the summer
I need this in my life. Family dinners for me are a definite struggle. And, your food pictures are just awesome!
Family dinners can be so stressful for sure
That ramen bowl looks so good! Love that perfectly cooked egg! 😀
the egg made the soup!
I haven’t tried the meal subscriptions, but I’ve often thought about it. I work 12-hour shifts and getting home at 8:00 p.m. and then trying to throw together a meal is no fun! These sound great. I might just try them!
Yes I can imagine that might be challenging!
This sounds great! I love that the packaging is recyclable, too.
I thought that was a great bonus myself
There are so many meal delivery services, its so hard to keep track of all of the pros and cons of each of them. The big con that I find with most of them is the price. I just wish that they were more affordable.
Some are more expensive than others for sure. I think the 50% coupon makes them more affordable for sure.
These meals look awesome. I have cooked with green chef and I love it, I can get a little pricey though, but Sedna worth the convenience
They can be pricey but when they have the specials and coupons it’s a great deal for sure
Sun Basket looks great! I have been thinking a lot about these types of subscription services and wondering if it would take the stress out of the kitchen for me! Great review, the meals look delicious!
It would definitely take the stress out of it for sure. Might be fun to try once a month
I really wish these weren’t out of my budget at the moment. These seem so convenient and healthy!
I thought they were really healthy and definitely convenient. They can be pricey but with the discount much better. I always think we spend a lot more going out or getting takeout.
Looks delicious, loving that soup and that tofu looks good!
I am definitely going to find the spices and make it myself soon
Oo, the food looks really good, and I’m all for easy recipes 🙂
I enjoyed them a lot
