        • While many runners were gearing up for the MCM marathon last weekend or readying for NYC this weekend, I was having a fabulous time at a hometown local 5 K race.
        • This past Sunday I participated in the Monster Dash 5k and had an absolute blast. It had been a while since I’d done a 5k race and I had absolutely no pace goals at all. What?? Yes true, no pace goal at all! You see, after nursing plantar fasciitus all spring and summer, I have slowly built my longer runs back up with no foot pain. I know that building my pace and distances back slowly is the only way I can stay injury free.
        • As you all know, sitting on the sidelines is no fun at all and I do not plan on doing that again anytime soon. Back to goals-my goal for Sunday was simply to JUST RUN & HAVE FUN. Wow that fact alone took off all the pressure and anxiety I often feel before a race. https://instagram.com/p/9MwuqUxuXY/?taken-by=deborahbrooks14
        • In fact I was so relaxed that I started the weekend off Friday night with our new monthly Happy Hour Beer Run. I never run at night and never would have gone if I was doing a “real race”.
        • This was a costume race so naturally I went with super girl :). If you are looking for a running costume, there are tons on Etsy that are very reasonably priced.
        • I love how the cape was blowing! I was fortunate enough to meet up with my MRTT friend, Laura, who is nursing her own injury, and was running with her little cutie today. The look of love and joy on both of their faces was priceless. JUST RUN & HAVE FUN
        • I also “ran” into one of the girls on my Girls on The Run team who was running today’s 5k to practice for our actual 5k in 4 weeks. I LOVE THAT! How inspiring that the girls are taking their training seriously and working towards their goals. I am just thrilled!

One of the many great things about Moms Run This Town is that you are pretty much guaranteed to bump into other members at races. Today I “ran” into 2 of the Chapter Leaders from another nearby chapter and had the opportunity to race with them. We chatted about our chapters and before we knew it, the finish line was before us. About Deborah Brooks

Hi I'm Deborah! I spend my days successfully raising a husband & 2 teens in the VA/DC area. I am a lover of all things running & fitness. As a life long vegetarian, I've always been passionate about healthy living & exercise. Looking for partners in crime, I started my own chapter of Moms Run This Town (MRTT) which has grown to over 700 members. I've met so many amazing women who inspire me daily to keep moving forward. You can usually find me running with my crew and training for the next crazy adventure they talked me into. I love to keep up to date on new running & fitness trends. I definitely choose my running gear based on color and love to express my fashion sense while exercising.

I love the SuperGirl costume! I saw it on your Instagram earlier 🙂 I’ll be doing a local turkey trot on Thanksgiving day. My first time doing a stand-alone running race since St. Patrick’s Day. I bet I have a sparkly skirt that could be used to commemorate the occasion (although at this stage my 12 year old thinks I am embarrassing if I wear stuff like that!)

I think everything we do is embarrassing to our teens!! I hope you have fun at your turkey day race and enjoy the run!

I definitely just run for fun…. I did a Chardonnay 5K with some girlfriends…most of my friends don’t run, but they were happy to that one with me… and we had a great time ….there was the chardonnay, the photo ops, so many cute wine/run outfits… Love your costume… and running is supposed to be about having fun, about feeling free like a kids, so that should be everyone’s number one goal as far as I’m concerned:)

    • Deborah Brooks says

      10/28/2015 at 8:59 am

I whole heartedly agree! Love the run 🙂

    • Deborah Brooks says

Woo wee girly, just look at those leg muscles popping out on you! You look fabulous! It looks like you had a ball as you should, races like this are so much fun. I was able to participate in a “Boo Run” this past weekend too. I was a pirate, lol. What Etsy store are you referring to, I need to start looking at something for my marathon in Disney.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      10/28/2015 at 1:22 pm

I think I just put in the search bar of Etsy-running costumes and a bunch came up. And Thanks for the leg compliment 🙂

Such cute costumes!! I am running a 5k on Saturday and I want to just run for fun and not have a time goal but it is so hard for me lol. I really shouldn’t have a time goal though considering I haven’t ran in 2 weeks!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      10/29/2015 at 2:02 pm

It is hard to run without a time goal but it was so liberating! Hope you give it a try

  33. Jen@jpabstfitness says

    10/29/2015 at 1:01 pm

My first 5K ever was this past August and it was the Insane Inflatable 5K, I chose it because I knew it was going to be crazy fun, but also because it wasn’t timed so it was just a run to run and I can’t wait to do it again!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      10/29/2015 at 2:07 pm

That sounds like the perfect race for a first 5k. Running is supposed to be fun and you are supposed to want to come back for me right?

  34. Mary Long says

    10/29/2015 at 1:49 pm

Your costume looks great and it sounds like you had a great time! Yay to not having to stress!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      10/29/2015 at 2:09 pm

      I know right! Thanks

  35. Kristy @Runaway Bridal Planner says

    10/29/2015 at 3:50 pm

I am not just saying this, but that is the cutest Supergirl costume I have ever seen! (On a side note, I saw there is a new Supergirl TV show, I missed, I must watch it:)
Back on subject, I just love small races like this. Years ago, I used to run small local 5k fun runs and halloween runs all the time, I have no idea why I quit doing them, when I can run regularly again, I really need to do some. Look at all the fun in your pictures, I am just missing out on awesome times like that by not entering small races!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      10/29/2015 at 5:41 pm

I totally agree! Sometimes the smaller runs are the most fun and relaxed. I’ve got another one coming up next week so excited.

  36. [email protected] says

    10/29/2015 at 7:20 pm

Looks like such a fun run. Usually anytime I dress up for a race(mostly Disney races), it is just for fun. I have no halloween races scheduled this yr. It is always a nice change of pace to run a race for fun rather than having a goal time in mind.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      10/29/2015 at 7:59 pm

It really is isn’t it?! Have a great weekend 🙂

  37. Debbie @ Deb Runs says

    11/01/2015 at 7:39 pm

I told Erin and Amanda that I was just a little jealous that they got to run with you! 🙂

    • Deborah Brooks says

      11/01/2015 at 9:07 pm

We had so much fun! You and I need a running date. Perhaps the day after you’ve run a marathon so I can keep up ?
