Thanks for joining Kim and me for The Weekly Run Down today. This week was all about lots of miles and milestones both on the road and off. Here is a peek into my week.
Weekly Run Down
Monday- upper & lower body strength + core + Peloton cycle + stretch
We flew home this morning and I was itching to get back on schedule. I was able to do a condensed version of my normal Monday workout. One hour is better than nothing!
Tuesday- 6 mile run + core + stretch
I had a progression run on my schedule today. Well, I ran the first few intervals too fast but still managed to pull it off. The plan called for a 15 minute progression mid-run where we were supposed to increase the pace slightly every 3 minutes and end at tempo pace. I ran a few too fast but managed to negative split my run so, we will call it a win. Finding those middle paces that are not too fast or too slow are tricky!
Wednesday- upper & lower body strength + core + Peloton cycle
Today I was excited to reach my 900th strength class milestone with Peloton. I have had the bike/app for 3 years but I did not start taking the strength classes until March of 2020. The date the world changed. I stopped seeing my trainer and switched to Peloton workouts. I was ready for a change and switching to Peloton came at the perfect time for me.
Thursday- 6 mile tempo run + stretch
It was a chilly one today! The sunshine lured me out to the trail for my speed workout today. I am trying to learn how to maintain that medium fast pace without going too fast and tiring myself out.
Friday- upper & lower body strength + Peloton cycle and stretch
A little bit of everything for this fit Friday and another Peloton milestone. 900 stretch classes taken. I credit this as one of the things that are keeping me feeling good and injury free.
Saturday- Rest Day with stretch and core
Rest day for me but I do keep my 10 minute core and a stretch in the mix. I have to keep up that Peloton streak.
Sunday- 9 mile run on the plan
It will be another chilly run day today! I have 9 miles on my plan today. With 7 weeks go until my Asheville half marathon, I feel like I am in a good place.
I am ending this last week of January with some nice miles and milestones. Thanks for linking up! Have a great week ahead.
Marcia says
Solid week for you as always! I think as long as you are in the general vicinity of the paces your plan asks for you are good! Congrats on all the milestones!
Deborah Brooks says
Yes, that’s what I was thinking too. The Peloton milestones are fun
Melissa says
Hooray for keeping up that streak!! The stretching no doubt has to be helping keep you injury free. Good luck with the 9 miler!
Deborah Brooks says
The stretching is a huge help both before and after
Wendy says
You’re in a great place! Pacing is my albatross and the one thing that always causes me to miss my goals. Nice to see your focus on that. Congrats on the Peloton milestone!
Deborah Brooks says
Pacing is really hard for me to nail down too. I am giving it a go to really work on it and see how it plays out for the March half.
Darlene S Cardillo says
A very solid week of running. 3 miles is my max during the week.
Good luck on your long run today. I hope it’s warmer down there.
Congrats on the Peleton milestone… very impressive.
Deborah Brooks says
I did feel like I had a solid week thanks. It is cold for us but nothing like what you have. Our windchill is 8 right now. I am waiting a little longer to head out today bc 10 degrees makes a huge difference at this point
Debbie @ Deb Runs says
You had a great week, Deborah! Today would probably be a great day to run (although I said otherwise in my own post at 5 AM this morning when it just seemed so cold and I hopped on my spin bike instead). You’re doing great on your training for the Asheville Half!
Thanks for the linkup and have a great week!
Deborah Brooks says
Thanks! Today is at least sunny and we are waiting a little bit to head out as 10 degrees is huge in these temps! We have had a challenging January so far weather wise
Kimberly Hatting says
Congrats on all the Peloton milestones 😉 You’re my hero!! I agree with the impact of daily core and stretching… though I need to up my game a bit more with stretching on the daily (and not just pre/post running).
Deborah Brooks says
It really makes a huge difference for me!
Coco says
Congrats on 900 strength and 900 stretch classes! I’m sure both make a big difference to your running and body health. Pacing is hard, but you are learning. A negative split run is great!
Deborah Brooks says
Thanks I do feel like I am learning pacing more. Finally! Yes, the stretching and the strength are so key for me and I really like them
Jenny says
Congratulations on those Peloton milestones! i’m especially impressed by all those stretch classes- I haven’t taken any yet and I know i should.
i’ll bet at the end of this training program you’ll be really good at nailing in that tempo pace, which is a great skill to have!
Deborah Brooks says
I know you love the yoga classes so I think you will really like the stretching classes as well
Chocolaterunsjudy says
You’re rocking your training Deborah! I do hope it’s warmer down there (I’m sure it is).Otherwise it would be a tough 9 miles!
Congrats on your milestones! Very impressive!
Deborah Brooks says
Thanks! We were dodging some ice this morning and some cold wind but got it done
Liz Dexter says
Great work, on the running and the Peleton classes. I’m seeing the benefits of starting to do more stretching and squats in my running, so hoping that will get me continuing doing that. Joining up with you for a monthly update today, even though I read all the posts every week of course!
Deborah Brooks says
So great to have you back! 🙂
Cari says
Awesome on dueling 900s. Fun when that happens. The day the world changed indeed. Forgot Asheville was between my February and April Halfs. You’re definitely in a good place, and congrats on the negatives splits. You’re nailing this training
Deborah Brooks says
Thanks I feel like I am learning a lot about pace (finally)
Black Knight says
Another solid week with good running (and not only) sessions.
Congrats on your milestones.
Stretching for me is very important because I am slightly off balance to the right due to permanent shoulder injury.
Deborah Brooks says
Stretching is super important for me as well!
Michelle says
A great week for you! Congrats on the Peloton milestones! Hope your run today went well.
Deborah Brooks says
It did thanks! I warmed up fast out there
Lisa @ TechChick Adventures says
A lot of my runs have been progressive runs because it takes me a bit to warm up these days! 🙂 Good job on all of your workouts. 900 is awesome!! I have been doing a stretch routine after my running on most days. I think it’s really helping!
Deborah Brooks says
Yes I feel like I need at least a 2 mile warm up in the cold as well. The stretching classes are key!
Jessie says
Nice work this week Deb! Lots of great miles and milestones.
My coach Esther Atkins is hosting a group of runners at that Ashville half, I didn’t realize it was the same one, my good friend Christie will be there. But I couldnt make it work with other trips on the calendar. It sounds like a good one!
Do you think you’d ever go back to your trainer or will you stick with Peloton strength for good?
Deborah Brooks says
I don’t think I will go back to him. I was ready for a change and I am liking the results I am seeing with Peloton strength
Kim G says
Another great week or workouts for you with tons of variety, and congrats on your milestone!
Deborah Brooks says
Thanks Kim!
Jenn says
900 classes! That’s amazing!
I’m excited to hear about Asheville. I’ve already run NC, but I would do it again for that race.
Deborah Brooks says
I am excited for Asheville too
