MId-Year goal check in|running|goals

While I am not a fan of New Year’s Resolutions for many reasons, I do like to make some goals for myself each year. Now that we are almost half way done with the year (How did that happen so quickly??), I thought it was a great time to take a look at some of my goals, see how they are going and do some tweaking.

Mid-Year Goal check in

Goal: Get more sleep

For the most part, yes I have been forcing myself to go to bed earlier in the evenings and to cut down on my evening screen time. Most nights I am getting 7 to 7 1/2 hours of sleep. Grade B+

Checking in on my #RunningGoals so far this year. How’s your year going?

Goal: Run injury free

Knock on something wood! I have now been injury free for over a year. Woo Hoo! Having had a stress fracture and a severe case of PF the last 2 years, I was determined to get stronger and run injury free again. I am happy to say that I was able to carefully increase my mileage this past spring and complete the Cherry Blossom 10 miler and 18 miles on the American Odyssey relay. I have not felt this good about my running in a long time. Grade A

Goal: Complete 3 triathlons & improve my run times

Tri race #1 was 4 weeks ago and I was really happy to drop almost 1:30 off my run time. With 2 more Tri races to go this summer, I am excited to see what I can do. I’d love to take another minute off of my run time. I also hope to get more comfortable with swimming in open water. So far not so good on that one. The swim portion of the race continues to stress me out quite a bit. Goal: TBD

Eat well and fuel my workouts

Hosting Meatless Monday each week has really encouraged me to break out of my rut. I have a tendency to eat the same things over and over again but having to come up with a new recipe each week has really forced me to be creative and eat the rainbow. I am also making sure that I eat enough to fuel all the activity I am doing. Grade B+

Add more yoga into my life

I love the way I feel after a great hot yoga class and I know it’s a wonderful post run activity for me. I just have a hard time getting there! My goal was to attend a class at least once a week. I would say I am making it about 3 times a month so I am giving myself a B.

core power|Mid-year goal check

Halfway through the year, things are going pretty well. Most importantly, I have to listen to my body and take rest days so I can stay injury free.

Hope to see you at our monthly Ultimate Coffee Date linkup this Saturday.

I’m like you I don’t put a lot of stock in new years resolutions. I don’t mainly cause I usually break them early on. I do think having a goal or something to work towards has many benefits. I would say I’m happy with the first half of the year! I’ve accomplished a lot, finished a lot of races and I just want to continue with the momentum!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      06/29/2016 at 12:56 pm

      Yes me too! 🙂

You are doing great! I have set a new set of goals for the mid year and am working on a post now. The first part of the year has helped me evaluate where I am and look forward to where I need to be.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      06/29/2016 at 12:59 pm

That was exactly why I decided to do a check in! Look forward to reading yours too

Getting more sleep is something I need to work on. I swear that sun always comes thru my windows every morning and wakes me up. I need to get dark curtains. I have recently been doing hot yoga and really enjoy it. Wish it wasn’t so expensive. I would sign up for a membership.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      06/29/2016 at 1:00 pm

I know it can be pricey. We get a discount for our running group. I sleep with eye shade mask on have you tried that?

  9. Susie @ SuzLyfe says

    06/29/2016 at 10:10 am

I love your goals–they are all about making your life better and healthier all around, not just hitting a number and then boom, you’re done! Great job working on these lifestyle changes.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      06/29/2016 at 1:05 pm

Thanks! In the past when I’ve tried to focus on numbers it just makes me obsessed and unhappy. This is a much healthier way for me to approach things.

  10. Debbie says

    06/29/2016 at 11:17 am

Nice job on your goals! I really should take a look at mine to see how I’m doing. I think more sleep and more yoga were on my list too, but I haven’t done as well as you have with that!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      06/29/2016 at 1:06 pm

It’s fun to evaluate occasionally and see where you can tweak things a bit.

  11. Nicole @ Fitful Focus says

    06/29/2016 at 11:32 am

You’re doing awesome!!! I haven’t been doing very well with my goals. I’ve been in a serious motivation slump and haven’t been eating as well as I should, but I’m hoping with marathon training kicking in that will all change for the second half of the year.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      06/29/2016 at 1:18 pm

I would never guess that! Hey we all slack off from time to time just makes it that much better when you come back
