May 2025 Ultimate Coffee Date

Thanks for catching up over a cup of virtual coffee with me and Coco. May 2025 is going to be a busy one around here! If we were having coffee I would jump right in and tell you about a few things. Grab your favorite beverage and let’s catch up!

May 2025 Ultimate Coffee Date

If we were having coffee, I would tell you…

I’ve mentioned how dialed into my sleep I have been the past year, thus I have been paying attention to my metrics on Oura. I’ve noticed a few things. It seems that my sleep scores are 3-5 points higher when my husband is traveling. It used to be the exact opposite for years. Now, I am such a light sleeper that any movement on his side of the bed wakes me up. Of course, sleeping with my husband does have some benefits (wink wink) so I guess I will keep him around.

Couple sleeping

One of the reasons I mentioned this is because I keep seeing articles and posts about “sleep divorces”. Basically, couples decide to sleep in separate rooms to achieve better sleep. Apparently, it’s a big trend at the moment. I do not see me ever doing this. How about you?

If we having coffee, I would tell you…

Speaking of sleeping happily in the same bed (ha ha), we are celebrating our 30th anniversary in 2 weeks. How did that happen?! Since we were locked inside during covid times for our 25th, we have some fun celebrations planned this month.

As we are currently planning my daughter’s wedding, everything is kind of coming full circle. It occurs to me that I thought I knew it all when I got married at 25. Turns out, I knew nothing! Life really is one big adventure and you have to celebrate the good times and survive the rough ones. All of this wedding and anniversary happening has me very nostalgic.

Thanks for letting me share this May 2025. If we were having coffee, what would you tell me?

About Deborah Brooks

Hi I'm Deborah! I spend my days successfully raising a husband & 2 teens in the VA/DC area. I am a lover of all things running & fitness. As a life long vegetarian, I've always been passionate about healthy living & exercise. Looking for partners in crime, I started my own chapter of Moms Run This Town (MRTT) which has grown to over 700 members. I've met so many amazing women who inspire me daily to keep moving forward. You can usually find me running with my crew and training for the next crazy adventure they talked me into. I love to keep up to date on new running & fitness trends. I definitely choose my running gear based on color and love to express my fashion sense while exercising.

I’m with you—I’d never dream of sleeping in a separate room either. Thankfully, we’re both quiet sleepers… though I might feel differently if Kai snored like a chainsaw on overdrive! 😅
Congratulations on your 30th wedding anniversary! I’m sure you’ll have a wonderful time. After missing out on the 25th, you’ve more than earned a proper celebration this time around!

Well, I’m up at 50 minutes earlier than planned because I woke up when my husband got up at 4:50 to go out for his bike ride. This happens on Wednesdays and Fridays when he meets friends for an early ride and those are the days I don’t have to get up until 5:30. Oh well, I gets lots done in my extra time!

Happy anniversary early. Looking forward to hearing all about your plans for celebrating 30 years!

Those wake ups at 4 something would not go well over here for either of us

Happy 30th (a couple weeks early)!! I’m excited for you & your fun month ahead :-). Our 30th was celebrated amidst Covid fallout and the derecho (which hit during the actual day), LOL.

Happy Anniversary! My hubby starts off in bed with me, but is sometimes relegated to the guest room due to very loud snoring. The struggle is real. Lately my sleep scores have been much better and I’m attributing that to less work stress.

Happy Anniversary!!! And… I guess your husband doesn’t snore loudly like some people I can think of, lol. It is hard sharing a bed with another person! Having a king size helps, and also a memory foam mattress (so it’s not bouncy). Sometimes I think about a sleep divorce, but it would seem weird (I get it, though!)
You have lots of excitement coming up! And- what did we know when we were 25? Nothing! Wisdom definitely comes with age.

I sleep much more sound when my husband is traveling – I chalk it up to no snoring!

    Enjoy your anniversary!

I’ve seen those articles, too. My husband doesn’t snore or move around too much so I sleep about the same with or without him! I’m a light sleeper so I guess I’d consider it if I couldn’t sleep. Luckily, I don’t have to make that choice. LOL.

Excited to see what you do for your anniversary!

We just celebrated our 14th anniversary! Congrats to you! Weddings always make me nostalgic. I just went to one last week and esp being so close to our anniversary it made me sappy. And my husband and I have opposite sleep cycles – he’s in bed around midnight and up late. I’m in bed by 10-11 and up by 4 on weekdays. Thankfully it works for us right now – thanks in part to a king bed!

    Happy Anniversary!

The only time we’ve slept in separate rooms was when one of us had covid and it still felt weird. I sometimes go to bed earlier when my husband’s away, but I think I sleep better when he’s home.

    Happy anniversary!

I mean, back in the day, people slept in different rooms. Sharing a bed was for relations, and then you went back to your own bed. My husband is not always well, so he’ll sleep in the guest room so as not to disturb me.

    Aww, happy almost-anniversary!!

I didn’t know there was a term for it (sleep divorce) but I basically did that starting 1-2 years ago because I sleep 3-4 hrs later than my SO and he is the lightest sleeper ever. (I’m a super heavy sleeper but cannot fall asleep if/when he’s snoring + my cat likes to sing the song of her people if I don’t sleep with her, so it was a necessity on all fronts, haha.)

One of my friends also sleeps separately from her husband because he snores loud. They’re both OK with the arrangement. That is exciting about your daughter’s wedding. Is she getting married back home or in Chicago?
