Oh it’s confessions and runfessions time again! This May 2025 came and went and it’s time to get a few things off of my chest. Thanks to Marcia for hosting.
May 2025 Confessions and Runfessions
I runfess and confess…
I’ve been in a few hotel gyms this past May 2025 and noticed a few interesting things, First, I am shocked that most of the women I saw in the gym were using the cardio equipment and not the strength training equipment. While cardio has it’s known benefits, the real keys to longevity are building muscle.
I will also add that I used to be intimidated to lift heavy things, especially in gyms I was not familiar with. Now, I welcome the opportunity to try out heavier weights. I kind of chuckle to myself when a guy looks at me because I have the weight he wants.
I runfess and confess…
I realized yesterday that I had not run in 2 weeks! It was nice to get out with some of my squad again and catch up. Needless to say, I am not in great running shape at the moment and I am ok with it. In the past, this would have sent me into an anxiety ridden tizzy. Running like life, comes in cycles. I am in my strength and longevity era at the moment and I am okay with that for now.
That’s about all I’ve got for now this May 2025! Hope to see you at the Ultimate Coffee Date next Friday!
I love how you framed this – running really does come in cycles, and it’s so refreshing to hear someone embrace that without guilt.
I’m right there with you. After logging over 1,000 miles in the first half of the year, I’m looking forward to running less in the second half. A shift in focus feels healthy! 💪
I am surprised that I don’t feel guilty bc the younger me would have
Cycling in and out of running is healthy, IMO. Strength training will always pay off. I’m not sure why more women don’t do it. Cardio alone is not the answer.
I know you know the benefits of lifting -hope the rest of the ladies out there get on board
I agree with the cycling aspect of running. In my case, it’s the racing aspect. I am not doing as many races as in years past, nor am I concerned with my “performance.” Yes, I want to make an effort to run strong, but I’ve never considered myself very competitive anyways…and I’m totally embracing that these days. Go YOU on using all the “men’s” heavy weights, LOL!
It sure does feel good!
Yup. running does come in cycles. I used to make sure I ran 84 miles each month so I would hit 1000 for the year. Now I just do what I can. If it’s only 50 then that’s better than 0.
I really want to start lifting weights but I have no idea how to start. I do use the machines at the gym – not treadmill , bike or elliptical.
I am so much happier not putting so much pressure on myself! Why did I do that for so long? The machines are strength machines as well but I bet they have someone to help if you need it. Do they have classes?
Cycles are just a part of life. I’m glad you’ve found something you love and that you were ok where you are at in the current cycle and season.
