April 2024 Ultimate Coffee Date

May 2024 Ultimate Coffee Date

If we were having coffee, I would tell you…

You may have seen that I attended the Billy Joel concert at Madison Garden last weekend which was epic. What I did not mention yet was that he had his daughter, Alexa, come out to sing 2 songs. What was even more exciting was that her mom, Christie Brinkley, was in the audience. When Billy Joel sang “Uptown Girl” they kept showing her dancing around and singing too as the song was originally written about her. She looks absolutely spectacular at 70 years old! (Goals!) I thought it was really sweet that she came out to support them both.

If we were having coffee, I would tell you..

I am the type of person that thrives on a schedule and feel very out of sorts when I am off my schedule. Thus, I set some very doable for me May fitness goals. I’ve fallen off of my daily core classes so those are my focus right now. Running 3x a week and strength training 3x a week are set in stone for me. I will also be working on more afternoon walks. I feel like I am super active from 9-12 and then not so much in the afternoons. My focus on sleep and higher protein have also served me well so I will continue those as well.

That’s about it for me today for this May 2024 Ultimate coffee date. If we were having coffee, what would you tell me? Do you prefer a set schedule or do you like to wing it?

About Deborah Brooks

Hi I'm Deborah! I spend my days successfully raising a husband & 2 teens in the VA/DC area. I am a lover of all things running & fitness. As a life long vegetarian, I've always been passionate about healthy living & exercise. Looking for partners in crime, I started my own chapter of Moms Run This Town (MRTT) which has grown to over 700 members. I've met so many amazing women who inspire me daily to keep moving forward. You can usually find me running with my crew and training for the next crazy adventure they talked me into. I love to keep up to date on new running & fitness trends. I definitely choose my running gear based on color and love to express my fashion sense while exercising.

That’s great that you got to see the entire “Joel” family (circa 30+ years ago, that is). Christie goes look fabulous! Nice goals in place for May! I need to get back on track with consistent core work (again).

The daily core work is always a good goal for me too-join me?!

We saw Billy Joel some years ago and his concert was amazing! How fun to see Alexa and Christie too! Your goals sound like great ones!

It was fun to see them all at the concert. Little goals each month definitely motivate me

It sounds like that was a fantastic concert!
I feel like I am struggling to stay on my fitness wagon, partly because I am still holding back for my hamstring which is just getting old.

Sounds like its time to switch it up a bit!

Some weeks I feel like I’m in the zone with my fitness, and some weeks I’m all over the place. Having certain things set in stone is a good idea. And, focusing on sleep ALWAYS helps everything.
I was a big Billy Joel fan during the Uptown Girl years, so your story of the concert was fun. I didn’t know his daughter is a singer too! That concert must have been amazing.

It was so much fun! I feel like everything else goes more smoothly when I am in the zone with fitness.

The last three weeks, I’ve been doing very little fitness related activities and I feel like I’m paying for it now.
I’ve been to CrossFit and everything hurts!

Ha well sometimes its good to take a little break and always feels good when you come back

I also very much thrive on a schedule/routine and have kinda fallen off the wagon as far as planning lately. I keep double-booking myself for things, so I definitely need to utilize my Google calendar + bullet journal again, haha. I need to work on consistency with my workouts!

consistency always feels good to me!

I would love to see Billy Joel again (last time was in the early 2000s, I think). How cool to see Alexa and Christie Brinkley, too! Was Alexa good? I don’t know her music.

It’s tough to keep a good routine when you travel. Love the goals!

Between us-LOL- Alexa was not great but I admire her for getting up in front of 25,000 people to sing 🙂

I saw Billy Joel years ago and love it! Doesn’t he put on a great show? I didn’t realize his daughter sings too.

I do much better when I have a routine too – I’ve been feeling a little out of sorts without my runs but I’m making it work.

I feel out of sorts when I get off of my schedule as well

You have some great goals! I do like a set schedule, but then it feels like I can’t deviate sometimes. Working on sleep hygiene is so important!

If I stick to my schedule 90% of the time, I am happy!

100% a schedule person. Mine is still not my own but trying to get back into my cross train which I’d stepped back off after a fall. My knee thankfully lets me know if I’ve eased off the PT too far

I also like Billy Joel but have never seen him in concert. I know he has performed various times at Wrigley Field. I also prefer to have a schedule. Even though I am excited for Summer Break, it still throws me off because I don’t have my regular routine.

having a regular routine works best for me too
