Loving Lately-Summer Edition

I know most of us have been having ridiculously hot and humid weather. I am not really loving running right now but I have been loving riding my bike and hot yoga. Oddly, the heat of a hot yoga class does not bother me but running outside is killing me lately. Go figure!!

I’m loving how amazing all of the fruits and vegetables are right now. I am loving pineapple & cantaloupe

Pineapple Cantaloupe Carpaccio

I’m loving these great zucchini and squash I found at a farm stand. I’ve never seen green squash like this before.

loving lately, zucchini, squash, vegetables, summer

I’m loving getting back to reading at night before bed. Currently, I am diving into the new Daniel Silva book. (affiliate link) This one is eerily representative of many of the current world events. Always a page turner. Also I am back to reading a real book instead of reading on a Kindle or Ipad.

I’m loving family time. With 2 teens, we are rarely all together anymore especially in the summer time. I am treasuring all these moments together. Last weekend, not only did we all go to Cirque Du Soliel together but we met my parents for dinner afterwards. They took their first selfie!

loving lately, family selfie

I’m loving coffee! Even though it’s hot as can be out there, I still drink hot coffee. Which reminds me, mark your calendars for next Saturday the 6th and join us for our Ultimate Coffee Date. Link up with me and my co hosts, Coco and Lynda, for our virtual coffee date.

About Deborah Brooks

Hi I'm Deborah! I spend my days successfully raising a husband & 2 teens in the VA/DC area. I am a lover of all things running & fitness. As a life long vegetarian, I've always been passionate about healthy living & exercise. Looking for partners in crime, I started my own chapter of Moms Run This Town (MRTT) which has grown to over 700 members. I've met so many amazing women who inspire me daily to keep moving forward. You can usually find me running with my crew and training for the next crazy adventure they talked me into. I love to keep up to date on new running & fitness trends. I definitely choose my running gear based on color and love to express my fashion sense while exercising.

The veggies have been so beautiful and delicious lately. The other day at the store I found the largest green peppers I have ever seen. I couldn’t resist getting them, and they inspired us to make stuffed peppers for dinner that night.

I know they are so good this year must have been all of that rain we had in the spring.

I’m def back to books. I go through phases, but I still really just love a book. I grew some HUGE patty pans like that yellow one! I need to make all the squash now 🙂

  7. Judy @ Chocolaterunsjudy says

I both read on a device and a book (from the library). Haven’t gotten any books out of the library lately, though.

Asparagus is one of my favorites. Even as a kid!

Melons, too, except watermelon. The only good thing about having to put Gizmo into the laundry room for some part of every day is that I don’t have to deal with him begging when I eat cantaloupe!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      07/29/2016 at 8:58 am

I am all over cantaloupe this week eating it right out of there w a spoon 🙂

  8. Chaitali says

    07/29/2016 at 8:35 am

That’s funny about the hot yoga in the Summer. At least there isn’t that much of a difference in the temperature! And yay for having family time together 🙂 We’re going to see the Cirque du Soleil show tomorrow. I’m pretty excited about it.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      07/29/2016 at 8:59 am

It’s really quite good I am sure you will enjoy it. they are so talented

  9. Marsha says

We’re all about pineapple and cantaloupe and peaches around here. My 13 year old son has gotten the cooking bug, so he’s been grilling pineapple and peaches on the grill. He has planted some veggies in what little yard we have. As for books, I have some easy read, short novels on my kindle, but personal development books need to be the real thing, because I read with pin in hand and underline. Then if I need to reference something, I can flip back through it. I have never gotten the whole highlighter and bookmarking thing on electronic devices. I’m old-fashioned I guess 😉

    • Deborah Brooks says

      07/29/2016 at 12:17 pm

I am old fashioned too with books just seems to make more sense. It’s fun to cook with the kids and can’t beat the grilled fruits.

  10. [email protected] says

    07/29/2016 at 10:17 am

I always read old fashioned books…. I still even check books out from the library… although some books that I know I’m going to want to keep, I buy.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      07/29/2016 at 12:23 pm

Reading on a kindle just seems not real to me. I like to disconnect from the electronics at night.

  11. Marcia says

    07/29/2016 at 10:21 am

The hot weather is killing my runs as well! It is a great garden year though and mine is going bonkers. I’ve been blogging (lots) less and really enjoying time with my kids this summer. I’ll read on a device but I do prefer a good old fashioned book!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      07/29/2016 at 12:24 pm

I can’t wait to have a real garden in our new house because every vegetarian needs her own garden.

  12. Kayla @ Blondes Have More Run says

    07/29/2016 at 10:23 am

Mmm…pineapple is really sweet right now!!

    • Deborah Brooks says

  14. Live Free And Run says

I am loving open water swimming which really can only happen during the summer for me! I can’t get enough of lakes and oceans!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      07/29/2016 at 12:31 pm

I love swimming but not open water! I am such a wimp

  15. Mary Beth Jackson says

I need a juicy summer novel to dive into! I am loving all the summer fruits! It’s a delicious summer!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      07/29/2016 at 12:34 pm

This book is a page turner but more of a thriller if you like that type of book. It’s very well written

  16. Elle says

    07/29/2016 at 12:18 pm

I would much rather read a book or a magazine than a screen. And ALL the veggies. I cannot get enough!

      Yes me too! Both

  17. Nicole @ Fitful Focus says
