Thanks for joining me and Kim for the weekly run down. My theme this week is Love the run you’re with. What does that mean to me? More below.

Love The Run You’re With

It is natural, easy even to beat yourself up over hitting paces and distances that you may have hit months or years ago. Truth is, running comes in cycles. Us mere mortals are not in peak running shape all the time year after year. It is not easy, but learning to love the run you’re in and the mile you are in, makes running much more enjoyable. That’s my 2 cents today!

Sunday-6.75 mile run + Pilates + stretch

I am continuing my slow mileage increase in preparation for a few spring races I hope to run. It was a rainy one but we got it done. Bad photo good run

Weekly run down

Monday- Peloton walk + full body strength + cycle + Pilates and stretch

A mix of all the things I love to do. Hitting 3K today was a nice milestone halfway through the month. I finished up the intro to Pilates program. (Review coming soon).

Love the run you’re with

Tuesday-Love the run you’re with 4.2 miles + Pilates + stretch and foam roll

We awoke to some snow, some rain and lots of wind but it was too warm to stick. We waited until mid morning got those miles in. Love the run you’re with!

Weekly run down

Wednesday-Peloton walk + lower & upper body strength + core + cycle + stretch

A little bit of everything on this Valentine’s Day! I shared on IG and on the blog why runners make the best Valentines. Later, my husband made me homemade spinach ravioli. A tasty treat for this pasta lover who does not eat it too often. He got me red roses and I got him a bacon bouquet. Which do you prefer?

Weekly run down heart and sole

Thursday -4.7 mile run + stretch

It was a chilly morning but I felt pretty good out there. I started taking creatine about 10 days ago-wondering if it’s kicking in? More on that later.

Weekly run down

Friday-Peloton walk + upper body strength + core + afternoon walk

My legs were a little sore from this week so I did more of an upper body focus and longer core class. We are supposed to get some more quick snow overnight so I took my friend up on an afternoon walk. Hopefully, it’s all gone for my run on Sunday!

Checked out a new and delish ramen place for dinner with the hubs.

Weekly run down

Saturday-Rest day

I leaned into my rest day today with a mix of yoga for hips, mobility and stretch classes via Peloton. In a world where it seems we are always pushing forward, it feels good to take the time to receive and recover.

About Deborah Brooks

Hi I'm Deborah! I spend my days successfully raising a husband & 2 teens in the VA/DC area. I am a lover of all things running & fitness. As a life long vegetarian, I've always been passionate about healthy living & exercise. Looking for partners in crime, I started my own chapter of Moms Run This Town (MRTT) which has grown to over 700 members. I've met so many amazing women who inspire me daily to keep moving forward. You can usually find me running with my crew and training for the next crazy adventure they talked me into. I love to keep up to date on new running & fitness trends. I definitely choose my running gear based on color and love to express my fashion sense while exercising.

Congrats on hitting 3k! I’ve been taking creatine for 10+ years and I think its one of the best things women of a certain age can do for their bodies. Love your two cents at the beginning. So very true. My hubby would love a bacon bouquet!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      02/18/2024 at 1:19 pm

The bacon bouquet was a winner! I do think the creatine is helping me. And thanks it does make a difference to love and appreciate where you are in your fitness each day and go with it

Ah, that’s a great message for me to ponder. Thanks, Deborah!

My husband would be into that bacon bouquet!

Tell me about that Ramen place!

I do truly believe my message 🙂 Hope it helps you too. KYUramen is right off the trail in FC where the new Founders Row is. In fact, there are a bunch of fab restaurants in there now ( Nue and Ellie Bird) highly recommend

I love that, learning to love the run you are in! That is definitely my season right now! Congrats on 3K! I am almost there. That ravioli sounds great! Would much rather have roses than bacon… you had a great week of work!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      02/18/2024 at 1:22 pm

I am glad it helped you too as it makes a huge difference for me to accept and be proud of where I am today. I’m trying not to focus on tomorrow or yesterday

That bacon bouquet cracks me up! I almost got my person a “bacon-lover’s” gift set, LOL, but found an NFL themed “man crate” instead. I’m eager to hear about the Pilates program! I’ve only done one such class (last year?) and wasn’t impressed, but I’d like to give it another try.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      02/18/2024 at 1:23 pm

The bacon bouquet was a winner! I got a lot out of the Pilates program more to come this week

Creatine, interesting. I don’t know that much about it and am interested to learn more.

Love the idea of loving the run you’re in/with! Very true.

Looks like a really nice week! A bacon bouquet, ha! How funny

    • Deborah Brooks says

      02/18/2024 at 1:23 pm

bacon was a hit with the hubs! Yes, check out some of the research on Creatine I believe it’s helping

  8. Susanne says

    02/18/2024 at 12:54 pm

That’s a very good mileage this week and I’m happy for you that you’re in the flow with running again. Creatine is supposed to help with performance and it’s good for a lot of other things too!
I love the concept of loving the run you’re in – a very healthy mindset.
My husband would have loved that bacon bouquet, lol!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      02/18/2024 at 1:25 pm

the bacon was a hit! I am trying to stay in that mindset as it really helps me to focus on all that I can do and not dwell on previous performance or stress about future.

  9. Debbie says

    02/18/2024 at 1:17 pm

I’ll be very curious about what you think about creatine after you’ve taken it for a while. Hope you write a blog post about it. I’m up for learning more about anything that will help combat the loss of muscle mass and other things affected by aging.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      02/18/2024 at 1:26 pm

Yes it’s only been a few weeks and I think it’s helping me recover. There is so much research about it now and finally for women in their 50’s and older. Have you taken it?

  10. Liz Dexter says

    02/18/2024 at 2:06 pm

Oh that ramen looks GOOD. And well done for your careful comeback.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      02/18/2024 at 3:57 pm

Thanks Liz getting back there slowly but surely

  11. Jenny says

    02/18/2024 at 2:47 pm

    Yum… ramen.
I love those heart sunglasses! Sounds like you had a great week. Yes, we need to embrace where we are right now- anything else is foolish and will only lead to unhappiness!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      02/18/2024 at 3:58 pm

      exactly!

I am happy to be enjoying running again! The bacon was a big hit

  13. Jenn says

    02/18/2024 at 9:26 pm

I will take bacon over roses any day. Because of Mr. PugRunner’s dietary restrictions, I haven’t had bacon in a minute. I don’t miss it, exactly, but I would be down with a bacon bouquet for sure.

Your comeback is coming along quite nicely! I’m so happy for you!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      02/19/2024 at 9:17 am

Everyone seems to like the bacon! I’m happy to be coming along as well 🙂

  15. Cari says

    02/19/2024 at 9:43 am

Oh that ramen looks delicious. It and udon (my slight favorite) are such perfect winter foods.
I’m the odd non veg who doesn’t like bacon (texture) so I’d be team roses, but really you can’t go wrong either either and the right recipient.
Love your seasonal tights, and I know I say that every year. You’ve got this <3

The bacon was a big hit! And thanks happy to be back out there doing what I love
