I am ready to finish 2021 strong with a few big Runfessions. Well, maybe not big but Runfessions and confessions nonetheless. These are always fun posts to write and to read. Thanks to Marcia for hosting. Have something to ‘confess” or “runfess” join us.
Let’s finish 2021 strong
I confess and runfess…
While I was sitting on my rear relaxing at the beach last week in Aruba, I realized that my Asheville Half Marathon was quickly approaching. A quick check of the calendar reminded me that it is actually in 11 weeks. I frantically grabbed my pad of paper (because I am old school that way) and created a running plan for myself. So, while mid-March sounds far away, it is in fact not far away. Has anyone else had a similar realization this week?
I confess and runfess…
If I was ever able to choose one of the Peloton instructors to be my running coach, I would choose Matt Wilpers. He may not be the most exciting but, I do believe he is very knowledgeable and would be a terrific coach. So, I was more than excited to receive an email yesterday with an “exclusive” opportunity to try out his coaching services for 8 weeks for free. I had just returned from my run and planned to sign up as soon as I showered. Well, apparently it was not so “exclusive”. 30 minutes later when I went to sign up, it was full. I was super annoyed, to say the least. Why offer this to more people than there are spaces for? Alas, I will again be coaching myself until the next celebrity Peloton instructor wants me.
That is about all I have to confess and runfess today! Hope you all have a happy New Year and finish 2021 strong. See you Sunday for the Weekly Run Down with Kim and next Friday for the January Ultimate Coffee Date with Coco.
Interesting about the coaching “offer” – I feel like Team Wilpers has been promoting everywhere lately. I wonder how much of what they offer is Matt vs his team.
Asheville should be a fun one – good luck with your training!
Yes I have seen a lot of promoting from them and I am sure it is a team effort. Would be fun to do though
Wow on the “sold out” coaching offer. I agree that Matt seems to offer the most serious running coaching. I also like his mellow demeanor, although I’m drawn to Marcel more these days.
No spring races on my calendar, but I think the timing is perfect for kicking off the new year with your training plan.
Happy New Year!
Yes I am excited to start training for the half again. I love my winter running
That’s great about Matt. He was one of my favorite Peleton instructors. Too bad you did not get in.
Asheville should be a fun one. You have enough time to train. I’m a little worried since mine is Jan. 23!! It’s tough to get in those long runs in the winter.
Jan 23 is very soon but you keep up your long runs so I have no doubt you can do it
I take great delight that 11 weeks will bring us to March and almost spring. I’m sure you will do just fine creating your own plan. I runfess I have not developed an affinity for any one Peloton instructor. Becs Gentry stands out…and then she talks too much. Haha! I do love Aditi’s meditations so there’s that. Happy New Year Deborah!
I know spring will be here again before we know it!
Oh, that is so sad about not being able to be coached by Matt! Funny, my run yesterday was with him — nope, not my favorite, but it had the best playlist for this older gal. 🙂
Not racing means much less pressure — because I already have enough pressure in other areas of my life!
yes, you sure do right now
Oh, that’s super annoying about the coaching! I agree Matt seems like an experienced and knowledgeable runner. I guess everyone else thinks so too! i would also say you’re doing pretty well on your own though.
Thanks Jenny just thought it would be fun to do!
That’s a bummer on the Matt coaching thing. Eleven weeks seems close (sort of), but you’re already in decent shape! You probably don’t need to add much to your long runs… though the winter temps & conditions can be a little tricky getting all the miles in. I know you’ll do great 🙂
I feel confident this year that I have a strong base right now. I just need to slowly amp back up to half distance
Wow, that had to be disappointing, to be invited to join and then to find out it’s full. Clearly, I am the only person in our group who doesn’t have a clue who Matt is, lol You’ve run enough halfs to train yourself anyways…
I just thought it would be fun to do something different. Yes, I feel like I have a good base right now and I should be able to amp back up slowly
Oh, man – now I’m trying to figure out if I can fit the Asheville race into my schedule. It’s my favorite beer town!
I’m trying to drink the Peloton koolaid, but just haven’t gotten there yet. Happy New Year!
I have never been to Asheville but I am super excited. I know the race usually sells out but it is still open now. If you need any suggestions for Peloton happy to help.
I have realized that ….. because of the pandemic many races are cancelled or postponed. I think that here all the race in January (and not only) will be cancelled. Too many people have been infected by this damned Omicron.
Enjoy these 11 weeks of training.
Happy New Year.
I sure hope races are not all canceled again!
I like Matt and he is my 2nd favorite after Matty. I had never heard of Team Wilpers or his coaching services. I would have also been disappointed to get the email and then find out if was full. Now that you say your race is 11 weeks away, I realized that mine is 12 weeks away.
ha ha I guess we both better get our asses in gear then!
I have a half the first weekend in February. Yikes! That’s right around the corner.
Bummer that the coaching opportunity filler up so fast.
It sure is right around the corner!
Found this in my inbox. Oops. I thought I answered this since I knew about Wilpers (temporary) disappointment, but must have been in the chat.
While I’ll absolutely do a spreadsheet mileage tracker, I need pen and paper to work backward. Also, calculate percent. X over Y = Is over Of. Brains are weird.
I am usually a pen and paper person also!
