Thanks for joining Coco and me for the July Ultimate Coffee Date. Let’s catch up over a cup of our favorite brew. I am still drinking mine hot all summer long. How about you? Iced or hot coffee in the summer?
July Ultimate Coffee Date
Again, I feel like this past month just flew by again. I’ve got lots to fill you in on. Grab your mug and let’s get right to it.
If we were having coffee, I would tell you…
I do consider myself a seasoned traveler. So when the girl in front of me got flagged for having a pocket knife on her, I knew to keep my distance right away. That did not stop them from sending me for secondary screening of my bag. I just so happened to have a pair of light dumbells in the to use for my photo shoot (see below). The TSA agent did take them out and look them over. I reminded him that I was indeed allowed to have them. My dumbells often do raise a few eyebrows!

Last weekend I attended the Small Biz Social Society 1st annual conference in Houston, I’ve been a member (and one of the admins) for over a year now, It is a private Facebook community and includes education and massive support from other small business owners and personal brand influencers. We have virtual training a number of times per month from other influencers and experts in different niches. If you are interested in hearing more let me know!

One of the perks of the weekend conference included a mini photo shoot. The reason why I brought the small weights was to use them for my photos. I can’t wait to see how they turn out. Here is a little behind-the-scenes sneak peek.
Well, I have clearly been rambling on! Your turn-if we having coffee, what would you tell me?
Kimberly Hatting says
How heavy were the dumbbells? That’s funny that TSA would give them the once-over, LOL Your Houston trip sounded so fun! I can’t wait to hear a few more details 🙂
Deborah Brooks says
I just brought the 3lb bike weights w me for a prop for the photos. Also good for doing a light weights and arms class in my hotel room 🙂
Wendy says
Yikes to the girl with the pocket knife! Do you think she forgot about it? I was flagged for having sausage in my suitcase last summer, lol! I was bringing it home from Alabama and the TSA there was pretty excited about it once they saw what it was. LOL
I’m still thinking about content for you!
Deborah Brooks says
She said she forgot it was in there? I was like “I am not with her! LOL
Darlene says
I was also flagged once for sausage and they took it away. I was coming home from Russia.
Looking forward to your photos. Houston looked like a great experience.
Deborah Brooks says
I brought some cheese home from Israel apparently that is allowed but not meat. who knows why
Coco says
You photoshoot previews look awesome!
On one of my recent trips I got the full pat down treatment. Even though I knew there was nothing, it was stressful!
Have a great weekend!
Deborah Brooks says
I don’t normally mind the extra security unless I am in a rush. I just didn’t appreciate him messing up my packing
Marcia says
The threatened to confiscate my Stick if I didn’t check it when I headed to the Boston Marathon. The struggle is real, but a pocket knife?? Yeah no. Sounds like you had fun! I’d love to know more about that group.
Deborah Brooks says
I don’t know what that woman was thinking! I have also had my protein powder flagged before but I get that. I would be happy to share more about the group w you . I have also made some new (non running) friends there too
Michelle says
I kinda chuckled at the image of the TSA giving you the side-eye for your dumbells. Like Marcia, I once argued with them when they tried to confiscate my Stick en route to a race in Philly.
Sounds like it was a great trip to Houston! Curious to learn more about your social media group.
Deborah Brooks says
Happy to answer any questions you might have 🙂
Jenny says
Ha ha, i guess a lot of people don’t carry dumbbells with them when they travel! The photo shoot sounds fun- I’m looking forward to seeing some of the finished product!
Deborah Brooks says
me too! Should take a few weeks but I will of course share them
Chocolaterunsjudy says
My husband has forgotten a pocketknife on more than one occasion. It seems as though I am always searched for something — then again, I haven’t flown in over 3 years!
Glad you got to keep your dumbells. Usually it doesn’t matter what the rules are, just what the agent decides.
Deborah Brooks says
We fly so much that I have it down to science usually!
Cari says
Isn’t rambling the point of coffee conversations? If they’re succinct, you’re not enjoying the full value of time. Love to hear more about the conference
Deborah Brooks says
Yes this is true!
Erica @ Erica Finds says
I’d love to hear more about the conference.
I’ve been flagged for food and supplements coming back from Expo East and Expo West, LOL.
Deborah Brooks says
The protein powder always gets me flagged other than that I am usually good. WE even brought back cheese from Israel and no one blinked an eye
Zenaida Arroyo says
What an experience for you at the airport! Glad it worked out and nothing was taken from you. I am sure those photos will look awesome!
Deborah Brooks says
I am excited to see them!
Janelle @ Run With No Regrets says
Can’t wait to see how the photos turn out, it sounds like a great community! Thank you for hosting!
Deborah Brooks says
thanks for stopping in!
Farrah says
I’m glad they didn’t take your dumbbells away! I’ve had to look up whether knitting needles/hair dryer brushes would be confiscated just because it’d suck to have them confiscated, hehe.
Aww, that sounds like fun! I wonder if there’s a group like that where I am. Love the behind-the-scenes peek!
Deborah Brooks says
So this group is everywhere! That is one of things I like about it. Yes, it would be sucky to have your hair dryer brushes taken away.
Renée says
It’s funny when you get flagged in security even for things you are allowed to have. Sometimes I actually forget I have something and then it’s a real bummer when it gets taken away. I had a mini bike repair kit with me once when I knew we’d be renting bikes somewhere and on the way home one of the tools was taken from me. I mean, ok, I guess I could hurt someone with that tiny wrench? good thing you just had dumb bells!
Look forward to seeing the pics from your photo shoot! how fun!
Deborah Brooks says
yes it was really fun!
