Thanks for joining Kim and me for the weekly run down. I am continuing to navigate recent health issues and getting some more tests this week. Until then, I am leaning into my strengths. Strength training to be exact. I didn’t do any running this week but I will be doing lots of strength work and Peloton. I was not really in the mood for photos this week.
Focusing on my strengths
Sunday- Run With Dad 5K + stretching
My husband and I ran a low key local 5K together. He recently started running again after about 10 years and we set this goal a few months ago. You can read my full recap here. So proud of him for sticking with it.
We spent the evening over at my parents’ house with my sister and her family. It was a gorgeous day to celebrate the dads. Photo with my dad and little sister.
Monday- Peloton walk + upper + lower body strength + core + Cycle + stretch
Leaning into my strength training today with a little bit of everything I love to do. I am enjoying the warm up walks on my tread before strength.
Tuesday- 3 mile walk + stretch + mobility
Wow, it takes a lot longer to walk 3 mile than to run 3 miles. Doing what I can right now and getting outside always feels good.
Wednesday-schedule rest day
I had some more testing today and was not allowed to exercise or drink coffee. Not sure which was more challenging. It was kind of a stressful and emotional day.
Thursday- Peloton barre and core
Fitting in what I could today. Always feels good to do a few Peloton strength classes.
Friday-Peloton walk + upper and lower body strength + core
Leaning into my strengths and trying to do what I can. It does not help that it has been raining nonstop all week. Thankfully, I can do my walks on the tread with the Peloton classes but I’d rather be outside.
Saturday- 2 mile walk + Peloton barre and stretch
It finally stopped raining this morning. Headed out for a 2 mile walk with a friend followed by Peloton barre and stretch classes.
It was a pretty low key week for me over here. I will continue to lean into my strengths and hopefully get some more guidance on running.

Hope they can give you some realistic guidance on running, it can be so frustrating when health care providers don’t understand about active lifestyles (and dispiriting, frankly). I recall when I had surgery to remove an ovarian cyst the original surgeon claiming I could go straight back to yoga and running afterwards. I did have more of an op than I’d expected but even so I would not have gone back to those! So it’s always one way or the other. Thinking of you and hoping for some good guidance.

Thanks liz I hope I get some more info this week too

I’m so sorry that the health issues are still so stressful — and I know how you handle stress! My stress this week was on 2 fronts, sandwiched between Mom & Bandit.
Congrats to your husband! Tell him he’s a rockstar. May we both have better weeks next week.
Deborah Brooks says
thanks I hope so too

Like all of us, it’s great that we have other options when a favorite sport/exercise isn’t a (current) possibility. Sending all kinds of healing hugs and good mojo in your direction <3

Hi Deborah, I’m so sorry about all the stress around your health issues. I hope you will get some clear answers and guidance asap. Not knowing is exhausting. It definitely doesn’t help that the weather gets bad.. I’m glad you can enjoy some strength training in the meantime. Lots of hugs to you.
Deborah Brooks says
thanks so much Susanne and yes the stress of not knowing exactly what is going on is super stressful

Congrats on the Father’s Day 5K, and it’s so cool that your husband is getting back into running 🙂
You know I’m all about the strength training so I think it’s awesome that you leaned into that more this past week. And there are so many benefits to strength training so it’s always time well spent!
Deborah Brooks says
always feel good after strength classes
Jenny says
Well, you can never, ever go wrong with strength. As a matter of fact, people who are really into strength training would say we do WAY too much cardio! I need cardio for my mental health though (and I’m pretty sure you feel the same.) And, I know- whenever I’m injured and do a lot of walking, I’m astonished at how long it takes!
Hang in there- I hope you get some answers- even if it’s not exactly what you want to hear, you’ll be able to formulate a plan to move forward. I hope you have a good week!
Deborah Brooks says
I know I used to do way too much cardio and I am often better off w more strength. That being said, yes like your running is my stress reliever. And yes, the answers are not always going to be what I want to hear but I will make a new plan..thnaks 🙂
