June 2023 Ultimate Coffee Date
If we were having coffee, I would tell you…
I am much more motivated to read during the summer. Just in the past week, I have finished Lessons in Chemistry and also did an advance copy read for a friend who writes legal thrillers. I am now into “Drowning” the second book from TJ Newman (falling) Just don’t read it on an airplane! It’s so good!

If you have been around here a while, you know how much I love strength training. This summer, I am going to really push myself to build even more strength and continue to mix up my workouts with some of the new Peloton programs.
Summer has never been my favorite time to run longer distances (hello heat and humidity) and I’ve had some extra challenges lately as well. I am excited to see what changes I can make and how they might help my running even more. I know I feel and look the best when my strength is on point.

We love to travel during the summer! Next week will kick off our summer travel. First up, we have a wedding to attend California and then a few days in the Napa area. The weather is looking fabulous and I am excited to get out there and explore. Stay tuned for lots of travel pics!
Flashback to 2018 when we did the Ragnar Napa Valley:
If we were having coffee, I would ask you if you have any exciting travel plans this summer?
Marcia says
I think a focus on strength is a great summer goal! Have fun on your travels. We are heading out as well and I need to load up on all the books for the flights!
Deborah Brooks says
Sounds like you have a fun summer of travel as well!
Wendy says
I have a half on Sunday and when I signed up I optimistically thought it would still be cool enough for a long distance race. Hah! Good thing it’s just a ‘training run’, lol
I have to look for that book! I loved his first one!
Deborah Brooks says
I never sign up for longer races after April it’s just too hot for me. Hope it is not too bad this weekend for you. It’s going to be 90 today!

Thanks for the book suggestion. I like to listen to audio books in the summer while I walk or run on the trail!
have a great time in California!
Thanks for the link up!
Deborah Brooks says
I did lots of audio books during 2020 they are a great way to do walks
Michelle says
Have fun in California! Focusing on strength training sounds like a great goal for the summer.
Deborah Brooks says
thanks!
Kimberly Hatting says
Sounds like an exciting summer in the works! I’m gonna work on some strength as well (after this weekend’s race). I’m looking forward to more outdoor biking!
Deborah Brooks says
I keep saying that I need to get on my outdoor bike again. I used to love it
Darlene S Cardillo says
Napa valley How fun! Have a glass or two for me.
12 weeks of gym machines has almost sold me on strength training LOL.
Deborah Brooks says
good I am glad to hear that! It’s so good for you
Jenny says
Yes, I’m also focusing on strength this summer- although possibly not as meticulously as you are. I’m also doing a lot of reading, but not much traveling. That’s okay, I’ll live vicariously through you- your trip sounds amazing. Have a great time!!!
Deborah Brooks says
I definitely like a structured strength routine with a purpose. summer reading is the best!
Erica @ Erica Finds says
Loved Lessons in Chemistry! Did you read Remarkably Bright Creatures? Loved that, too.
We’re going to Sweden and Denmark at the end of the month and I’m going to NYC next weekend for a Bar Mitzvah and friends meet up. I’m excited!
Deborah Brooks says
Denmark is on my list too never been. Look forward to hearing how you like it
Cari says
Definitely more of a summer reader too. Something about being outside lends itself to it.
Using summer to get back on my strength game too. Please yell at me if I don’t 😀
Deborah Brooks says
I sure will get on your case about strength! 🙂
Chocolaterunsjudy says
Zero travel plans at all at the moment. I’ve looked into a few things, but life is just complicated right now. I’m sure you can appreciate that!
Strength is always a great thing!
Deborah Brooks says
I can totally appreciate that! I’ve also become acutely aware that life is short and I want to do all the things 🙂
Coco says
I’m still trying to come up with some fun plans … in the meantime I’ll be joining you in those strength programs!
Enjoy Cali!
Deborah Brooks says
Life is very short my 2 cents is book your tickets and take the trip! The rest will figure itself out
Jenn says
We have a few trips planned this summer, and I’m pretty excited. It’s been a while since trips have been enjoyable due to Mr PugRunner’s health, so I am cautiously optimisitic.
Deborah Brooks says
I completely understand that and I hope you all can enjoy your ravel together
Farrah says
haha, after watching Descent shortly before going on a caving adventure, I’ve learned my lesson. Will be adding Drowning to my to-read list but definitely only going to read it when I am firmly on the ground.
Have fun in California! <3 It's been a lot warmer here lately!!
Deborah Brooks says
A good plan! Enjoy the book
Renée says
