Jumping Into A January Routine Weekly Run Down

Thanks for joining Kim and me for the Weekly Run Down today. Jumping back into my January routine after the hectic holidays always feels good. This week ended up posing more challenges than expected. Here’s a peek into my week of fitness and running.

weekly run down

Jumping into January

Monday- lower body strength + upper body strength + core + Peloton cycle

A mix of everything today for my usual Monday stack. We also got a surprise dump of snow of about 9 inches today. It was 65 degrees yesterday! I had to suit up and take a run on my street before the plows came and do a snow angel of course. We rarely get this much snow so it is fun. It was fun until I started to freak out about where I would do my runs this week!

jumping in to January

Tuesday- 60 minutes Peloton treadmill running + core + stretch

Yes, you read that right! This treadmill hater had to run on the treadmill today. It was crazy icy this morning and I was afraid to try to run outside. Even Yaxtrax cannot help in the ice. My #PelotonSquad encouraged me to jump onto the mill with a few Peloton running classes. It did help the miles pass quicker but honestly, I just don’t like it. Admittedly, it’s been years since I have run on a treadmill and it took me a while to find my rhythm. But I did manage a little over 5 miles so mission accomplished.

Wednesday- upper + lower body strength + core + stretch + HIIT Peloton cycle

Another well rounded and full workout day. We are still kind of snowed in around here so outdoor activities were not smart. This was me after an intense HIIT Peloton class.

Jumping into January

Happy to announce that I am back on the Brooks Run Happy Team for another year. Yay! Love these folks and happy to see a few of my blogger friends on the team this year as well.

Jumping into January

Thursday- 10K run + stretch

I took advantage of a weather window to jump out and get an outdoor run in. I’ve got to get outside or I get antsy and depressed. So, I ran in the bike lane of a major street and it was surprisingly clear. I chose my most reflective Brooks jacket to make sure that cars could see me. Oh, and we have another 4 inches coming tonight. Need to figure out how to get my long run in this weekend.

Friday- full body Peloton heavy strength + core + stretch

I am enjoying adding in heavier weights for my strength the past few weeks. I skipped my cycle classes today and I am okay with that! We got some more snow last night so it was an indoor kind of day again today.

Saturday- rest day with Peloton core and stretch class

A low key rest day around here. Spent way too much time stressing about how I am going to get my 8 miles in tomorrow. Depending on which station you watch, we are getting frozen rain in the morning. Fingers crossed I can get my run in before it arrives.

Sunday- on the plan 8 miles + core + stretch

I am hoping I can get that outdoor run in before the freezing rain arrives. Otherwise, I will be back on the treadmill again. Jumping back into my routine this January has been challenging but I will get it done!

Happy Sunday and happy first week of January! Thanks for stopping by.

Yes, we are iced over like a glazed donut. I wish we’d have gotten more snow instead of the sub-zero cold. A good dump of snow is so pretty. Great week of workouts as usual! Congrats on another year of running Happy!

The icy stuff is not fun at all. I seem to have a little window this morning so I am trying to get out!

Good luck with you 8 miles! I woke up to freezing rain at 5:30 a.m. today, so it will be another treadmill day here top.

ugh it is the worst! I have a window to get out now so I am going to take it

I blogged about getting back into a routine, too 🙂 Treadmill miles are so tough…kudus for doing five! My first two Peloton HIIT classes left me a majorly sweaty mess (in a good way). I hope your weather mellows out and you can get your run done outdoors!

      01/09/2022 at 7:58 am

I am heading out now before the icy rains comes in!

Yep, what Marcia said. I just took Cocoa out and almost wiped out on the ice on the deck. Grrrr. I bought snowshoes and I want to try them out. Stay safe!

      01/09/2022 at 7:58 am

Thanks it is the icy stuff that freaks me out. I can deal with the cold. I am headed out now before our next round later

Yup, when the snow and ice are almost constant companions, finding somewhere safe to run is very challenging. Good job getting it done! Good luck today!

      01/09/2022 at 12:45 pm

success! We got it done but wow it is challenging

  6. Darlene says

For once you got more snow than us.

It’s only ice that holds me back. And that limits where I can run.

Great job staying active as usual.

Congrats on Brooks. I wish I could wear their shoes. Love the hats and clothes though.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      01/09/2022 at 12:51 pm

Yes it is the ice that holds me back as well. We usually do not have this much all at once so it’s been a challenging week!

  7. Debbie @ Deb Runs says

    01/09/2022 at 9:27 am

You got lots more snow than us on Monday which is so unusual. Good for you for getting your workouts in around the mess.

I’m hoping the freezing rain stops before we land at Dulles this afternoon! It’s going to be a rude awakening coming home from Key West to that kind of weather!

Thanks for the linkup and have a great week!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      01/09/2022 at 12:55 pm

oh wow you are headed back already!? Looks like it will just be regular rain later you should be ok

  8. Cari says

    01/09/2022 at 9:55 am

Glad you have the treadmill for when it’s just not safe. Not ideal, but we make it work. I don’t recall that side of your bike before with the milestones. So cool in addition to your light box.
I love the hi vis stuff from Brooks. My yellow Fort Lauderdale one that you see a lot in winter is Brooks – accidentally. Was just the group run shirt that the store sold. And while I’m not sure how reflective my shoes are, it’s fun to know folks can see my feet.
I didn’t want to run yesterday, but with the icy rain here too I’m glad I did

    • Deborah Brooks says

      01/09/2022 at 12:56 pm

the bike stickers are on the other side so you may not see them in my usual photos. Doing some redecorating in there this week 🙂 The icy stuff is not fun at all. Always glad to have run too!

      • Cari says

        01/09/2022 at 5:01 pm

I had a feeling it was a different angle — can’t have missed them in every post. LOL. Can’t wait to see the redecorating outcome.

          01/10/2022 at 8:30 am

I am sure there will be photos! 🙂

  9. Jenny says

    01/09/2022 at 10:11 am

Oh good luck with your run today! At least you have the treadmill option if there’s no other way. I’m going to remind you of this in the summer, your “fourth favorite” running season! Sounds like you had a great week (pending today’s run!) in spite of challenging conditions.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      01/09/2022 at 1:03 pm

ha yes summer is still my 4th favorite running season. I don’t mind the cold but the ice is to dicey. I did manage to get out this morning so happy 🙂

  10. Black Knight says

    01/09/2022 at 10:41 am

I am a treadmill hater too but when the weather outside is brutal we have to use it.
Glad you could run despite snow and ice.
I have never had a similar experience.
    Have a good week ahead.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      01/09/2022 at 1:26 pm

Sometimes we have to get it done on the treadmill! WE can still complain about it

  11. Liz Dexter says

    01/09/2022 at 12:02 pm

A good week. We’ve had that awful ice that’s about a molecule thick but completely treacherous, and no yaktrax or nanospike will help. I was out jeffing with my friend Ruth this morning and we kept having to go on the (long, wet and icy and muddy) grass at the side of the path. Ugh.

I have been doing some yoga stretches and stretches for the lower back every day as I’m doing RED January (getting outside every day and stretching) and my stiff lower back is SO MUCH better, so that’s something! Hope you get some more outside running soon.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      01/09/2022 at 1:28 pm

My lower back gets tight too and stretching really does help. The ice is no fun at all! Stay warm friend

  12. Kim G says

    01/09/2022 at 12:03 pm

Proud of you for hitting the treadmill earlier this week – I know it’s not your favorite, lol.
It’s super windy and a little icy here today but hopefully it’s not too bad in your area and you can get in your run today.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      01/09/2022 at 1:29 pm

Not my thing at all but sometimes we have to. I will complain about it though 🙂 I did get out today and was so glad that I did. Stay warm and dry

  13. Lisa @ TechChick Adventures says

    01/09/2022 at 12:18 pm

You can send some of that snow this way! I’d gladly take it 🙂 You did a great job of working around the weather. Congrats on the Brooks team again!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      01/09/2022 at 1:34 pm

The snow is great it’s the ice and mess that follow!

  14. Coco says

    01/09/2022 at 12:27 pm

Crazy me, I enjoyed the excuse to hop on my ‘mill this week. It was too icy to walk Scooby, but he enjoys doing sprints in our frozen yard.

Congrats on being with Brooks again!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      01/09/2022 at 1:39 pm

I know you like the TM sometimes. I feel like it is much harder to find my natural gait and it feels off to me.

  15. Jessie says

    01/09/2022 at 2:21 pm

I can tell you firsthand that ice is dangerous! I’ve broke my leg twice running on it. If I do it a 3rd time, I need to find a new hobby 🙂

I can’t believe it went from 65 degrees to 9 inches of snow! I bet it was pretty though!

Congrats on the Brooks running ambassadorship!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      01/09/2022 at 4:28 pm

I remember you breaking your leg and no one wants that! Yes, we have crazy weather here

  16. Michelle D. says

    01/09/2022 at 3:12 pm

Great job tackling that treadmill run! Running on the mill is not my fave either – a necessary evil!

I hope you were able to get your long run done.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      01/09/2022 at 4:29 pm

A necessary evil at times yes.

  17. Jenn says

    01/10/2022 at 9:09 pm

Congratulations on Brooks! That’s so fun!

And yay for snow days! I know they are tough for you guys, but I do love a day or two of crisp snow!

Great workouts, again! Even with the rough weather.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      01/11/2022 at 3:07 pm

I do like a day or 2 of snow but its the ice that follows that is no fun at all

  18. Nicole @ Foodie Loves Fitness says

    01/11/2022 at 7:27 pm

Good for you for getting those workouts in & improvising with the weather! This is my 4th winter in New England, and I usually get long walks in with my dog and toddler even when it’s cold.. but icy snow certainly makes it tougher! When it snowed here last week, I was like hmmm the stroller wouldn’t work with the ground being covered in unplowed/unshoveled snow, and my daughter is too big for the carrier I used to use for walks. It’s definitely a challenge!

PS – I love Brooks sneakers!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      01/12/2022 at 8:20 am

It is sure a challenge dealing with the snow and ice!
