July Ultimate Coffee Date Beach Edition & Runfessions

Thanks for joining Coco and me for the July Ultimate Coffee Date today. I do look forward to our big giant virtual coffee dates every month and love to see what everyone is up to. I am throwing in a few Runfessions too today. So grab your mugs and lets get right to it.

July Ultimate Coffee Date

If we were having coffee, I would tell you…my daughter and I took a little road trip up to the Jersey shore this weekend. We are enjoying a little sun, sand and hopefully some really great pizza. Does ice cream just taste better right on the beach? I love the chocolate dipped cones-how about you?

July ultimate coffee date

If we were having coffee, I would Runfess…I am really struggling to run in this heat the past few weeks. It can be really defeating sometimes. I used to love summer running but honestly not so much anymore. I am looking forward to a few beach runs this weekend and then will be dreaming about fall temps.

Don’t miss the #UltimateCoffeeDate w @got2run4me @deborahbrooks14

If we were having coffee, I would tell you…I signed up to try one of those sensory deprivation tank experiences. They are called “float therapy”. Sounds kind of crazy to me but people seem to be into them these days. You are inside of the tank for 90 minutes. Stay tuned to hear how that went soon. Have you ever tried one?

July Ultimate Coffee Date

If we were having coffee, I would tell you…my Popsugar Must Have box came just in time for my beach trip! I love to get lost in a great beachy read and this one looks fun. Who doesn’t need a great waterproof pouch to keep your phone and money in? I am also going to try out this Mermaid Sea Salt hair spray and see if I can get that beachy hair thing going. Thanks PopSugar! Want to check out a box for yourself? Check them out here and use SHOP5 for $5 off.

July Ultimate Coffee Date

If we were having coffee, I would Runfess…As much as I love training for my tri races, I think I am getting a little burnt out. I have another race in 2 weeks and then I might be done for this season. I may change my mind but feeling a little tired of “tri-ing” some days. I still love to bike and swim but don’t want it to feel so structured.

Your turn! If we were having coffee, what would you tell me? Float therapy? Does beach ice cream just taste better? Any plans for the 4th?

Everything tastes better at the beach! Have a fantastic time!

Fortunately or unfortunately, I don’t need salt spray for my hair. It’s just built in for me!

There’s an old movie with William Hurt (the name escapes me) about those tanks. Let’s just say I don’t suggest you watch it. 😉

oh no! I am already afraid to do the tanks but I figure I can get out if I don’t like it. The weather is gorgeous so far having a great time

I’m curious to hear more about this float therapy. Does it address anything specific or just overall wellness? Enjoy your time at the beach 🙂

I am not totally sure about the whole float thing but I will certainly let you know in about 2 weeks after we go.

I love those dipped cones! We are indulging in waffles with dark chocolate sauce. OMG! I’m glad my race calendar is clear until September- except for my Fondo!

I did the floating tank in the pitch dark once for 2 hours… loved it… it starts slow and then suddenly the time is up … will be curious to see what you think

    • Deborah Brooks says

I am a little nervous about it but excited!

I agree that ice cream, well really anything, tastes better when you’re relaxing on the beach!

I’ve also been struggling to run in the heat. This morning’s run was pretty awful because of the 92% humidity, but I’m just trying to keep slogging along, even if its slow.

I’ve never even heard of float therapy. What is it supposed to help you with? I opted not to do my first Tri (too tired from travel) but may sneak one in next month. Or not. LOL. Enjoy your weekend!

  9. Mary Beth Jackson says

    07/01/2017 at 2:00 pm

Ok, I cannot wait to hear about this floating therapy! Never heard of such a thing! I love some fun trashy reads during the summer and I will agree with you EVERYTHING tastes better on the beach! Enjoy!

      07/01/2017 at 4:53 pm

I am intrigued by the float therapy-stay tuned my appt is in 2 weeks. Yes so far the ice cream is tasting super yummy

I’d love to hear more about this float therapy. Is the water treated? Like with sea salt? If it brings down the stress level, sign me up!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      07/01/2017 at 4:56 pm

Yes the water is a high density salt water. I am intrigued and nervous at the same time. Stay tuned for all the details.

Looking forward to reading about your float experience… I haven’t been, but this series of books I read, one of the characters is always going to the sensory deprivation tank. I am so over summer running now… we didn’t get much of a winter, so I’m thinking that is why.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      07/02/2017 at 5:14 pm

I am kind of over summer running myself! Stay tuned on the float experience my appointment is in 10 days

Hooray for beaches! That ice cream looks magical and I want some in my life! 😛 I’ve still never been to Jersey shore but might be heading over there sometime this summer!

I love that waterproof bag! :]

    • Deborah Brooks says

  15. Katie Shepherd says

    07/02/2017 at 8:31 am

Absolutely ice cream tastes better at the beach!! I’m struggling with summer running too and missing my treadmill. I don’t have room for it here at our lake house :(. We head to the beach later this morning. Hope to get some beach runs in too!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      07/02/2017 at 5:21 pm

Hope you get a nice beach run in also!

  16. Erica @ Erica Finds says

    07/02/2017 at 11:30 am

Yes, ice cream tastes better on the beach! Hear you on summer running and burn out. I feel less able to deal with heat in my older age! I tried the float tank and I was pleasantly surprised at how fast it went. Can’t wait to hear what you think!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      07/02/2017 at 5:22 pm

I know 90 min sounds long but I hear it goes by quickly. I am also having trouble in my older age (ack!!) with the heat. I guess fall will be here soon enough

  17. Akaleistar says

    07/02/2017 at 7:05 pm

That ice cream cone looks so good!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      07/03/2017 at 6:47 am

OH it was so good and so was all of the yummy eats I had all weekend. So worth it!

  18. Jen @ SprinklesHikes says

    07/03/2017 at 12:15 pm

Oh wow! I haven’t had a chocolate-dipped cone in FOREVER. That does sound delicious and like the perfect summer treat. My 4th plans involve hiking with a friend – as if I don’t do enough hiking already!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      07/03/2017 at 12:56 pm

The cone was super yummy! Enjoy your hike!

    • Deborah Brooks says

For some reason I cannot seem to comment on your coffee date post but thanks for joining us!

  19. Sara says

Sensory deprivation? I’ve never heard of that before. I’ll have to come back and see what you think of it!

Runfession – I also hate running in the heat. Spring and Fall….my ideal running seasons. I just keep reminding myself that PR’s a made in the summer!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      07/03/2017 at 7:38 pm

Yup trying to remind myself of that too! It’s been tough going out there lately for me

  20. Teresa says

    07/04/2017 at 6:42 pm

I’m with you on having zero desire to run in the heat these days! It just sucks the life and the enjoyment of running right out of you!

Ice cream does taste better at the beach and I always get caramel poured over mine…it’s a good thing I don’t go to the beach that often 🙂

I don’t know of anyone who has tried float therapy but it does sound relaxing. Can’t wait to hear how you liked it!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      07/04/2017 at 7:59 pm

Stay tuned my appointment is next week!
