Cannot say that I am sad to see July end. It is always the most hot and humid month around here. I’ve got some super sweaty Runfessions to share today. Thanks to Marcia for hosting.
Hot and Humid Runfessions
I Hot and Humid Runfess…
It has been 18 months since I last ran a live race. I finally have 2 races coming up in September and October. I feel like I have been training for them both forever as they were both deferred from last year. I have felt ready for months and I just have to hold on a little while longer without overtraining or getting injured. There is a small part of me that wonders if they are going to virtual again.
I Hot and Humid Runfess…
This is the first summer in a while that I have made a serious effort to keep running despite the heat. I don’t like it at all. In fact, I really hate it but I am happy to have a good base right now. I am counting the days until fall and hoping these hot and humid miles will pay off. Anyone who says they like running in 95% humidity should not be trusted!
I Hot and Humid Runfess…
I sometimes feel like an old person. Lately, I wake up in the morning and think, “hmm I wonder if something is going to hurt or be tight when I step out of bed today?” I notice all these creaky noises in my knee some days. Oh my, maybe I am really turning into my mom. Does anyone else do this?
Okay, it felt good to get those thoughts off of my chest. Thanks for listening!
Don’t miss the Ultimate Coffee Date link up next Friday. Yes, I will be drinking hot coffee even though I just complained about the heat because that’s the way I roll. Hope to see you there!
Coco says
Hah! I’m at the point where I’m expecting something to hurt and do a double-take when it doesn’t!
I think the weather is supposed to be nicer this weekend ….
Deborah Brooks says
Ok I am glad I am not the only one!

I usually wake up stiff or with some pain, but this year I have been feeling pretty good. Maybe that’s why I’ve been pushing myself to the brink of injury. Sigh. I miss running, but I don’t miss running in this gross heat and humidity!
Deborah Brooks says
There is always an upside right!?
Jenny says
OH YES! Ever since being sidelined by my hip (and then my knees… WTF???) I’ve felt old. Somehow when I don’t run my body decides to fall apart in a million different ways.
I hope your races aren’t canceled! i know Covid is surging again, but it’s just so discouraging to go backwards.
Deborah Brooks says
It does sort of feel like things just pop up when you are not moving in the same way!

Thankfully I don’t have those thoughts when I wake up! I’m not saying that everything always feels 100%, but maybe it’s just the fact that I’m a morning person. Don’t try to get me to stay up past 9 though, LOL!
Fingers crossed for your fall race! I know it’s been 2 1/2 years since my last half . . . I’m not sure if that was my last live race or not but it might have been, because COVID hit not long after. Most likely this year will not mark my return either, just due to the craziness & uncertainty that is my life right now. When the time is right I’ll know.
My thoughts about the people that say that running should be fun or why else do it? I’m sorry, it’s not generally fun for me when it’s extremely hot & humid. But I want to continue running so I just.do.it.
Deborah Brooks says
It is not as much fun when it is so hot and humid but it is still rewarding and gratifying. I am going with that right now

Speaking of “old age”aches and pains…my lower back gets so cranky if I spend too much time “relaxing” on the loveseat (sideways, with my feet comfortably propped up on the arm rest). I’ve fallen asleep there twice this week (trying to catch some late night Tokyo coverage) and can barely drag myself off it & up to my real bed. I’ll be drinking a very hot chai with you next weekend:-)
Deborah Brooks says
Funny, I can’t picture you relaxing on the couch at all! You seem to be on the go all the time
Marcia says
I am so grateful to NOT be training for a marathon over this summer. It feels glorious to not have to run double digit miles. I have days where my lower back is not happy with me. Ugh. Thanks for ‘fessing!
Deborah Brooks says
would not miss it!
Zenaida Arroyo says
I cannot wait till Fall. It is my favorite season. I am over the hot and humid weather. I hope your races are not deferred again or go virtual.
Deborah Brooks says
me too on both!
