Thanks for stopping in for the August Ultimate Coffee Date with me and Coco. I realized we have been hosting these virtual coffee dates for over 6 years now! That was way before going virtual was cool. Anyway, I’ve got lots to chat about today. So, grab your favorite mug and join me.
August 2021 Ultimate Coffee Date
If we were having coffee, I would tell you…
After decades of buying coffee, I made the ultimate mistake. Yup, I bought decaf K-cups by accident. Why do people drink Decaf coffee? Do they not understand the purpose of coffee? I feel like stores need to keep it locked away somewhere away from the normal people coffee so those in a caffeine-induced deficit don’t make the same mistake I did.
But wait, there’s more. Since it was pretty nice out Wednesday afternoon, I decided to take a walk to another grocery store to grab some coffee. This was not my usual store but a nice stop on a 3.5 mile roundtrip walk. multitasking right? I arrived to find a huge coffee selection with all kinds of caffeine-filled options. After loading up a few boxes, I headed to the checkout. I rang up all of my coffee only to find out that they did not take Apple Pay. No! Since I was on a walk, I did not have my wallet. Ah thwarted again!
Fortunately, I. still had a few K-cups at home to get me through the day. I have rectified the situation and I am restocked. Whew! I blame this all on the people who drink decaf. If that is you, no offense. We can still be friends!
If we were having coffee, I would tell you…
And just like that, we are again empty nesters. My son was back home all summer for an internship which just ended. He went back to be a counselor at his old camp for 2 weeks before heading back to school. I can’t believe he is going to be graduating from college next May. I am glad that he will have in person classes again and hopefully things will look a little more normal on campus.
It does feel weird to be empty nesters all over again. It is very quiet around here and a lot less messy. I think I am going to miss that mess just a little bit.
I’ve been rambling on throughout our whole August Ultimate Coffee date. If we were having coffee, what would you tell me?
Kimberly Hatting says
Ha ha ha, I guess that would be a big WHOOPS on the decaf coffee 😉 I did however, once and only once, but Chai Kcups that were tea leaves instead of the usual “cappuccino” version. I usually just heat my water/milk in the microwave (instead of the Kuerig), so it wasn’t until I emptied the cup and tried to mix it into the heated water/milk concoction that I realized what it was. Those tea leaves just don’t dissolve like the other stuff LOL
Deborah Brooks says
Oh yes I can’t imagine that would work well at all!
Marcia says
Oh wow, I’m glad you are restocked on the caffeinated stuff. Decaf does not cut it for me either. I hope your son has a wonderful senior year. Time sure does fly!
Deborah Brooks says
yes the coffee debacle has been rectified! Time really does fly by
Michelle D. says
I ask the same question about decaf – what’s the point?! 🙂
I hope your son has a great senior year!
Deborah Brooks says
Exactly! It is kind of like drinking no alcohol beer-why?
Coco says
Hah! I blend full strength and decaf because I want more coffee than my body can handle. But can you believe I accidentally bought fat free half and half again??
I hope your son has a great senior year – WOW that time flew!
Deborah Brooks says
the half and half I don’t think I would notice mixed into the coffee. Time really does fly by! I cannot believe he is a senior already
Erica @ Erica Finds says
I’d tell you that I have some very good instant/pocket pour over recommendations that you should keep on hand in case of such emergencies! They’re great for travel, too!
Deborah Brooks says
That is a great idea!
Jenny says
Ha, I guess you won’t make that mistake again!
Time really does fly by- my son is going to be a freshman in college and it seems like JUST YESTERDAY he was starting high school! I totally hear you- the house will be less messy soon, and I’ll miss it.
Deborah Brooks says
I already miss it!
meranda@Fairytalesandfitness says
I’ve only ever had iced coffee ( don’t drink hot coffee), so I always wonder what the difference in taste is between Decaf and regular. I take it you don’t like it…lol Hope you can get into a routine being empty nesters again. I guess you’ll be counting down the weeks until Christmas break and your kids are back again! Thanks for the link up!
Deborah Brooks says
So it does not taste different I just need the caffeine!
Debbie @ Deb Runs says
I’d tell you that my husband keeps decaf coffee in case he wants a cup after dinner and doesn’t want the caffeine to keep him up. I don’t know how you guys drink that stuff. It’s so bitter and nasty that I’d need a cup of sugar to make it tolerable. LOL
I hope your son has a great senior year!
Deborah Brooks says
I think Starbucks is bitter but not the other brands. Do you drink caffeine at all?
Cari says
LOL re: missing the mess. My must when I’m home is to leave a glass on the table overnight. Since I became a morning runner it’s more likely what I drank from before going out, but as I told mom – how would she know I was home otherwise?
Hate it when places don’t take Apple Pay — happened on a run in Florida with Walmart of all places!
Coffession, I do half caff in the afternoon and decaf at night when I need a hot drink – but yeah when I used to drink coke I didn’t get caffeine free diet coke – brown water!
Deborah Brooks says
I do kind of miss the mess already and the quiet. I do drink decaf tea at night sometimes but I need my caffeine in the morning
Kim G says
I made the mistake of buying decaf coffee once (the box was placed in the wrong spot). Luckily I don’t live too far from the supermarket so I was able to exchange it later on that day, lol.
Deborah Brooks says
exactly they should keep it very far away from the good stuff!
Wendy says
I don’t mind half caf but decaf is a big no for me. I love coffee and all the benefits that come with it, lol
It’s hard to go back to being empty nesters, isn’t it? I didn’t realize your son was going to graduate this year. Is it a year early? What are his plans after college?
Deborah Brooks says
NO not early but his college years have flown by! He will start job hunting soon looking in DC and Chicago
Chocolaterunsjudy says
I do go back & forth between regular rea & decaf tea, but I don’t drink it for the caffeine. Aside from chocolate, I’m not a caffeine junkie. Glad you got restocked!
My brother was really looking forward to being an empty nester, except because of COVID it basically never happened. But his oldest child just got engaged, so at least there’s something happy going on!
Deborah Brooks says
We had them back for a while during covid and then over this summer. It is a hard adjustment again!
Farrah says
hahaha, I’m glad you finally got your caffeine! I’m part of the no-caffeine crew so I apologize on behalf of my brethren. 😛 (I had 1/2 a cup of tea at like 8 pm and couldn’t fall asleep until 3am so :[ ).
I hope your son has an awesome senior year!
Deborah Brooks says
That is great that you can keep up your schedule without caffeine. I bet there are not too many DR’s in that club
Zenaida Arroyo says
I do not understand decaf coffee either. I never want to be without coffee here in my house.
Deborah Brooks says
I second that!
MCM Mama says
I keep decaf in the house for afternoon coffee in the winter and I’ve accidentally made that as my morning coffee once or twice. No one wants to be around me when I’ve made that mistake…
We’ve still got a ways to go before we are empty nesters, but the older one goes back to school in a couple of weeks. It will be weird to have my office/gym back again. I’m hoping school is a lot more normal for both the boys this year.
Deborah Brooks says
NO no one wants to see me with my morning coffee either!
Janelle @ Run With No Regrets says
I’m not really a coffee drinker but I don’t get the point of decaf either, haha! I’m glad that you’re all restocked now!
How is your son going into his last year of college already?! Time really does fly!
Deborah Brooks says
You will see how fast time flies with the kids! Yours will be in school before you know it
