Thanks for joining Kim and me for the weekly run down today. It’s finally Race Week for the Asheville Half. Finally! I feel like I have been training forever and yet, for not long enough. You all get that I am sure. Here is a peek into my week of fitness and fun.
It’s Race Week
Monday- upper + lower body strength + core + Peloton cycle + stretch
I was totally dragging today after the time change, Extra coffee was needed today. A little bit of everything on my workout today, I am keeping up my frequency for strength training but dropping the intensity a bit for race week.
Tuesday-4.5 mile run + stretch
I cut my run mileage a little shorter today. 4 days until race day! I may have run a little faster than intended. I think I was inspired by the absolutely gorgeous spring weather. While some of you say you love tapering, I get really antsy and nervous about cutting my runs and well, everything!
Wednesday- core + upper body strength + stretch
Keeping my workouts easy the rest of the week. Today I did upper body strength and core. It only seemed appropriate to keep up the Irish theme by taking a bunch of Daniel’s classes.
Thursday- Travel to Asheville
We had an early flight to Asheville via Atlanta. Not the most direct but better than driving 8+ hours. We spent the afternoon walking around the property of the Biltmore Estate and meeting up with our friends. I checked out the Peloton meditation and stretch classes on my Delta flight. Admittedly, kind of useless but fun for entertainment. We had a really nice dinner on the property.
Friday- Race packet pick up + Peloton stretch class.
We picked up our packets and are ready to go tomorrow.I had to do my Peloton stretch class to keep up my streak.
Saturday- Race Day!!
We could not have asked for better weather, I will do a full recap next week but my training paid off and I had nice PR. I am super happy with how my race went. I am going to feel this one tomorrow.
Sunday– We have a tour of The Biltmore in the morning and a wine and chocolate tasting in the afternoon. There is a winery here on the property for tastings. And that’s a wrap!
I’m so happy to hear that your race went well, Deborah!
Looking forward to the recap.
Thanks so much Cat!
That is so great that your training paid off and the weather cooperated.
Congrats on your PR. You deserved it!
Sounds like you planned a perfect recovery day.
I slogged my virtual NYC half so I can join you next year.
We had warmer weather this week. Unfortunately it never lasts.
Thanks! It will be fun next year in NYC!
Congrats on the PR!! You have rocked this training cycle and deserve it. Enjoy the rest, wine and chocolate!
Thanks so much!
I am so excited for you! I knew that if everything came together on race day that you would have a great PR and you did! I’m sure you are over the moon right now. Enjoy the rest of your trip and I look forward to reading your recap!
Thanks so much Wendy xoxo
I love that your race weekend was also a fun couples’ getaway! The Biltmore is gorgeous. Can’t wait for the full race report!
Thanks Marcia and yes it has been a great weekend
I’m glad you had great weather and a great PR! You definitely worked for it. I didn’t realize your husb was going to. The Biltmore is beautiful. I love one of their white wines – prob a chardonnay? My MIL used to bring us some when she had a house down there. Enjoy your day and bask in your accomplishment!
Thanks so much!
Congrats again on your fabulous race!!! Isn’t the Biltmore a thing of beauty? We toured it many years ago… I was so captivated by the architecture, and the grandeur of the place.
Yea it is a cool and beautiful place to visit. It’s been a great weekend
That’s so awesome you had a great race and race weather!! Can’t ask for more than that. That training plan paid off (and all of your hard work)! I can’t wait to read your race recap.
I just found out that I will be in Asheville for Spring Break! Long story, but it involves last minute change in plans. I’ve always wanted to tour the Biltmore Estate so I have to see if we can fit that in. Technically it’s a camping/mountain biking trip, but I think I might be able to talk the guys into the tour. It would be a shame to miss that!
Hope you’re enjoying your recovery time post race!
If you are going to be here anyway it would be fun to take. Tour. You definitely need to purchase tickets in advance
mm wine and chocolate.
CONGRATULATIONS again. Didn’t realize it was a PR, but so thrilled all the hard work paid off. Enjoy the weekend with your friends.
I’m laughing at someone stretching into their neighbor on a flight
Thanks it’s been a great weekend so far!
CONGRATULATIONS! I can’t wait for the race recap! And what a fun trip overall- I’ve never been to Asheville but would love to go someday. A wine and chocolate tasting sounds like the perfect reward for a hard race!
Thanks! I agree 😊
See, I told you you were going to do great! Mmmmm, chocolate (I don’t drink, but you had me at chocolate).
Sounds like a fabulous racecation, Deborah! Congrats!
Thanks so much Judy!
Well done, I’ll look forward to the race report! I must get my sleep back up before our clocks go next weekend, thank you for the reminder. I’ve had a good running week this week although I’ll admit I’ve needed the running badly and it’s come good for me, as I’m dealing with a good friend who is very vulnerable health-wise having come down with Covid. Thank goodness for running!
Oh no sending good vibes to your friend for a speedy recovery
Thank you xx
Wonderful to see your hard work pay off! I look forward to reading your recap. Enjoy the rest of your trip!
Thanks so much Michelle
Yay for a 3-minute PR – I can’t wait to read your recap! It sounds like you’re having a fun time in Asheville! My son and d-i-l were there last week and enjoyed hiking and touring Biltmore.
Have a great week and thanks for the linkup!
Thanks and yes the weather is great this weekend
Congratulations on the PR Deborah! That’s so awesome to hear. Well deserved!
I’ve heard the Bitmore is gorgeous. A wine tasting post race sounds lovely.
Minneapolis is a huge Delta hub so we almost always fly Delta. When I was having pretty bad back pain, I thought doing some of the stretches on a flight helped a little! But yes, kind of silly overall. 🙂
Thanks I am happy! Yes, the classes on flights are kind of silly but entertaining
I love it when a plan comes together. I know you had the best time at your race and I am so happy that all your hard work paid off! I cannot wait to read the full scoop!
Thanks Jenn!
Daylight Savings totally threw me off on Monday/Tuesday. I was just dragging both days but luckily I felt back to “normal” by Wednesday. It’s only an hour so I never understand why it bothers my body so much lol.
Congratulations on your PR and glad you enjoyed your racecation!
I know that hour can really throw me off as well!
