Thanks for joining Kim and me for the weekly run down today. Regarding the summer heat and humidity, my motto for the week: If you can’t beat ’em, join ’em! This week, I was determined to get all of my run workouts done and had a quick trip to Chicago as well. My summer of yes, I can, continues.

weekly run down

If you can’t beat ’em, join ’em

Monday- upper + lower body strength + barre + core + Peloton cycle

Starting Monday off my favorite way with lots of strength and a little cycling. Always feels good to get the week off to a strong start.

Tuesday-tempo/speed run 4.5 mile + core + barre + stretch

I can’t believe I am saying this but, tempo workouts are now my favorite type of run workout right now. They are effective and very rewarding. Sure, it’s hot and harder in the summertime but I know it will pay off come fall.

Wednesday- core + barre+ upper body strength + Peloton cycle

Lots of upper body and core work today. I skipped the lower body strength because my legs are still sore from yesterday’s speed work. Instead, I did 2 low impact Peloton cycle classes.

Thursday- 4 mile run + stretch + barre

This was a disaster from the start! Did not sleep well, hit the wrong workout on my watch, and forgot my phone. Basically, called it quits at 4 miles. I scrambled myself together and booked it to the airport to head to Chicago to visit my daughter and help her move apartments.

Friday-Peloton barre + stretching + core + 5 miles of “city walking”

A quick hotel room workout. I had a chance to meet up with Erica for a nice coffee date before heading over to help my daughter with her apartment move/cleanout. We made a good dent but lots more to do tomorrow.

if you can't beat 'em

weekly run down

Saturday- Peloon barre + core + stretch + apratment clean out + 4 miles of city walking

A long but productive afternoon of apartment clean out. A short Peloton in hotel room workout this morning.

weekly run down

Sunday- Chicago Under Armour 10K

Yep! I did it again. I signed up for a last minute local race while in Chicago. It would be criminal to let a race happen blocks from my hotel and not run it. Don’t you think? Stay tuned for details!

If you can’t beat ’em. join ’em! Where will I be next week?? Stay tuned…

About Deborah Brooks

Hi I'm Deborah! I spend my days successfully raising a husband & 2 teens in the VA/DC area. I am a lover of all things running & fitness. As a life long vegetarian, I've always been passionate about healthy living & exercise. Looking for partners in crime, I started my own chapter of Moms Run This Town (MRTT) which has grown to over 700 members. I've met so many amazing women who inspire me daily to keep moving forward. You can usually find me running with my crew and training for the next crazy adventure they talked me into. I love to keep up to date on new running & fitness trends. I definitely choose my running gear based on color and love to express my fashion sense while exercising.

I just love how you’ve embraced those tempo workouts and how much they’ve impacted your running! Fall is going to be good for you!

How fun that you got to see Erica. I’m hoping to do a run tour with her this week.

I am enjoying the tempo runs and yes I do think they will help come fall. It was fun to see Erica. Sorry we could not meet up this time but can’t wait to see you next month. Chicago weather was kind of sucky this visit!

Good luck this morning! I did a last-minute race this weekend as well…after all, why not? My youngest did a major apartment clean out yesterday also…and a lot of her stuff is sitting in my living room (for the next two weeks) until she has access to her new place. Parenting has its perks 😂

Ugh on your Thursday morning frustrations! I hate when that happens. Looks like you are having fun in Chicago! Good luck with the 10K today. I hope it’s not too hot. And it’s not like you took it easy yesterday with moving!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      07/17/2022 at 4:32 pm

I did not take it easy w moving. It was crazy humid and rainy all weekend thankfully it was an easy run day so just took it easy out there

How fun to have a race so close to where you’re staying! Yes, even I would be likely to join in on that fun. And of course great to be able to meet up with Erica.

I’m always sort of impressed that people run before travel. Sort of because travel was stressful enough before COVID so I need all the calm I can get for it! You did a great job listening to your body.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      07/17/2022 at 4:36 pm

Travel does stress me out and we travel all the time. Running relaxes me before it I guess. Yes always fun to meet up w IG friends

Love the shirt/suitcase matching. All you needed was your Monday scrunchy!
I agree on tempo, excellent value for time.
So glad you could catch up with Erica. All the apartment cleaning is good for some workout too with the bending and lifting that comes with moving.
Can’t wait to hear about your race

Ha I do like to be color coordinated!

  10. Liz Dexter says

    07/17/2022 at 11:14 am

Love that you did a sudden race: good for you! And yay meetups!

Not much going on here, we have a heatwave like we just don’t get here, in the 80s on last Tues and Weds and 86 currently here, then due to be 95-99 tomorrow and Tuesday before it breaks – not running or workout weather esp as we’re not used to it. I ran Thursday morning and ran to parkrun and some of the way back on Saturday and that has to do, then will run from Wednesday next week.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      07/17/2022 at 4:45 pm

Those temps are no fun and unfortunately normal for us in the summer. I can still complain though! Stay safe out there

So nice that you were able to meet up with Erica while in Chicago! Love that you signed up and completed a race while you were there. As you know, Chicago is one of my favorite cities to run in – you can never go wrong with any of their races!

    • Deborah Brooks says

It is a fun city to run in. The weather wasn’t great this time but that’s ok!

Wow, it sounds like a GREAT week! You got in some great workouts, helped your daughter move AND ran a 10K! I’m starting to suspect that you DO like summer running after all : )
I’m also heading to Chicago this week- I hope I look that fresh and put-together in the airport but I doubt it, ha ha.
Looking forward to the race recap!
