Like any good vegetarian, I love my “zoodles” aka spiralized veggies. I make them often and while I would not say they are difficult to make, they do take some time and some equipment. I was perusing Facebook a few weeks ago and came across an ad for Hungry Root and was immediately intrigued.
Hungry Root has taken spiralized veggies to the next level by offering complete meals that are ready to eat in under 7 minutes. The creative combinations they have come up with are enough to make even a carnivore salivate. The meals are vegetarian based with options to add chicken, falafel or tofu. I consider myself a pretty creative chef when it comes to veggies but I never would have thought of these combos:
-Carrot noodles with a tangy peanut siracha
-Sweet Potato with noodles with creamy cashew alfredo
-Turnip noodles with toasted walnut pesto
-Beet noodles with savory almond sauce
-Rutabaga noodles with roasted mushroom pistou
Those are just some of the creative veggie combos they offer. You can see the whole menu here. All of the Hungry Root meals are gluten free, under 500 calories and all natural. But wait there’s more-Hungry Root has desserts too! The desserts are also plant based made out of chick peas instead of eggs and butter. All meals have under 500 mg of sodium. Every meal is vegetarian based and many are vegan as well.
Right now Hungry Root is available by mail on the east and west coasts. You can check the availability in your area here. The meals are guaranteed fresh for 10 days when you receive them.
When I first found out about Hungry Root, I knew I had to try them out! I begged convinced them that I would be a great person to review them and they generously sent me 4 of the meals to taste. All opinions and thoughts are my own.
Taste Tests:
My first meal was the carrot noodles with the tangy peanut siracha– I was worried that a bowl full of carrots might not be enough to fill me up and I was pleasantly surprised. I cooked up the meal in under 5 minutes from start to finish. I loved the taste not really spicy even with the siracha. The noodles stayed fresh and crispy and I was completely satisfied. The portion size would be great for dinner or split for 2 lunches.
Rutabaga noodles with roasted mushrooms are something I never would have made on my own. They were delicious! Packed with potassium and vitamin c and fiber these are a nutritional powerhouse. Who knew? Again I was able to whip these up in 5 minutes. I was completely satisfied with the portion size.
I love the all natural ingredients and the low sodium amounts. The calories are perfect for a dinner or 2 lunches. The price is comparable to anything you would pick up for take out and with the discount below it’s even better. Having a plant based meal with protein add on options is perfect for families. They are a great option for a busy weeknight and much healthier than anything you can probably pick up.
The meals are about $10 each with free shipping on orders over $40. I scored you all a discount code for 20% of using MotherRunner20. I am all set to order some more for myself and I plan to send some out to my parents for a holiday gift.
I very rarely eat foods that are prepackaged and I have to say that Hungry Root makes the cut. I honestly have nothing negative to say about them at all and I plan to order myself some more.
What’s your favorite veggie to spiralize?

What a great idea! I’m happy to see a pre-packaged food that actually thinks about vegetarians. I honestly have never made noodles with anything but zucchini. So boring!
Deborah Brooks says
I was pleasantly surprised and I think you would really like them. They are so creative-I never would have thought of the rutabaga!
Judy @ Chocolaterunsjudy says
And here I was just thinking yesterday that I really need to have a few more healthy, packaged meals around (if there is such a thing) because life lately has been busy.
This sounds great!

Wow, these look so easy. I love easy when it comes to cooking. I bought one of those spiralizers (some cheap version) about a year ago and just now, reading this post, remembered it! I love my spiralizer but I love the convenience of pre-spirlaized veggies even more.
Deborah Brooks says
I know it’s a great option isn’t it?!
Janice @ Fitness Cheerleader says
I’m so excited about this product!! I have wanted to try spiralized vegetables forever but I’m hesitant because I figured that there is no way making them was as easy as it looks and that I’d screw it up and my family would laugh at me like most of my other cooking attempts. This sounds like a great way to avoid that problem letting me try before I fully commit to doing it myself (and let’s be honest here, this mom barely has time to try spiralizing herself). Thanks for sharing!
Deborah Brooks says
LOL I am pretty sure you could figure it out but this is a great way to try it out to see if you like them. Let me know if you do!
Julie @ Running in a Skirt says

I must admit, I’m late to the spiralizer party and still haven’t bought one yet. I’ll be adding these to the shopping list too, looks like a great solution for when you need a quick, healthy meal!
Deborah Brooks says
Oh you are late to the party!! LOL
Amber says
Wow! These sound awesome! I didn’t even know you could make sweet potato noodles! I agree these combos are SO creative! I am going to have to give that a try… with a cashew Alfredo sauce, challenge accepted!
Deborah Brooks says
I know the combos they have are so creative!
Kate says
Deborah,
These look great, but from the looks of them, my sig. other could probably eat 4 of them in one sitting!! Maybe they’re better suited for my lunch. Would it be easy to add in extras like tofu or more veggies?
What’s your favorite spiralizer? I guess I’m not a ‘good vegan’ because I haven’t tried spiralizing yet!
Thank you.
Deborah Brooks says
They were surprisingly filling for me. They do have options to add tofu or chicken onto some of the combos or you could throw some on yourself. My spiralizer is Paderno brand you can find it on amazon. It’s easy to use. Good luck!!
