It’s only day one of the “blizzard of 2106” and I am starting to go a little stir crazy already! I am used to getting out and getting my workout done either at the gym or on a run with friends. By the looks of things neither one of those will be happening for a while. What’s a girl to do with all of that excess energy and anxiety I have? I’ve come up with a few tips that I hope will help you (and me) survive being stuck inside.
So sure you could run and up and down the stairs or do crazy amounts of crunches in between shoveling rounds. I offer up a few more productive activities to burn off energy while stuck inside. Hope it helps!
Organize your running/workout clothes
You might not be able to wear them right now, but do an assessment of your running clothes. Is there anything that you haven’t worn in a while that you might pass onto to a friend or donate? Any pieces that are too big or too small? I also found a few of “what was I thinking” pieces. I scheduled a pick up from Purple Heart next week and I will be adding a few pieces to donate. I organized these jackets by weight and use. I put bins on the side for gloves, hats & headbands.
Check your shoes
We runners/exercise enthusiasts can really amass a ton of shoes can’t we? I found 5 pairs of gently used running shoes that I can donate and a few of my son’s as well. Most running stores will also take shoe donations and donate to various charities.
Visit your pantry & Create
Not only did I find tons of old stuff that I could get rid of, I found great basics to cook with. I’ve already made a wonderful strawberry blueberry oatmeal bake that I will be sharing soon and I am going to experiment with all the lentils I’ve founds. Why do I have so many bags of lentils? I bet you can also find lots of great stuff in your own pantry to spark some creativity. If anything I could sure use a little organizing in here to say the least. Why do we have so many condiments that I am sure expired years ago?
Color
These adult coloring books are all the rage these days! I am loving this running inspired coloring book. You can find this one and tons more Amazon
Closets
Do you have a closet that looks like this? Yikes perhaps I will save that one for the next snow day!

Tell me-How are you burning off your excess energy while stuck inside?
Mar @ Mar on the Run says
haha – I shoveled for over an hour my front porch and stairs – we have a management company but who knows when they’ll get around to it and one of my neighbors is older (not like anyone is going anywhere!) I did laundry and some baking yesterday and today cleaned up the kitchen. Tackling the bedroom and actually folding laundry is next! Then I’ll say I’ve deserved my wine 🙂
Deborah Brooks says
You definitely deserve your wine and those yummy cookies. Shoveling was seriously hard work isn’t it? Looks like I will be doing it all over again tomorrow morning.
Daisy @ Fit Wanderlust Runner says
Hope you are staying safe with this blizzard going on. Atleast you were able to get some organizing done 🙂
Deborah Brooks says
I had a lot of pent up energy to use!
Coco says
I have no energy left after all the shoveling I did! I had to take a nap before I could take a shower and fix dinner.
Deborah Brooks says
It is exhausting isn’t it? I still have some energy left and might have to go out with the yaxtrax again
Erin @ Stay At Home Yogi says
Thanks for the ideas! We are stuck under 2 ft of snow and our road hasn’t been plowed yet. I have an adult coloring book from Christmas I need to pull out. Stay warm!
Deborah Brooks says
Yes we got at least 2 feet here as well! I have lots of pent up energy to use so getting a lot done around here
Teri @Reinventitude says
So funny! We went snowboarding yesterday so that’s how we burn off winter. Though the weather here was perfect and not blizzardy. Hope you all are staying safe and snuggly warm!
Deborah Brooks says
That’s fun! We are not used to this kind of snow but hanging in!
Wendy@Taking the Long Way Home says
I wasn’t “stuck” like you but yesterday I got all my blog posts started for the week! That always feels good.
Deborah Brooks says
That does always feel good! I don’t normally do a weekend post but I had lots of energy to burn LOL.
Laura @ Mommy Run Fast says
Oh yes, I should totally be tackling closets!! Instead we spent the day shoveling out the driveway and then prepping for my daughter’s birthday party. But I just heard that school is cancelled again tomorrow so maybe my girls will let me get a little organizing done!
Deborah Brooks says
OH we had lots of shoveling over here too! It’s harder than I remember. Hope the party went well
karen says
I love this!
Your work out clothes are a great little set up 🙂 I need to do that so bad!! I ended walking today and stayed busy, but I really should have tackled a closet yesterday lol
Deborah Brooks says
I’ve got a few more closets to get to. I hate feeling trapped in!
HoHo Runs says
Welcome to the Weekly Wrap Deborah! I seriously have three staircases and could so do that, but I’m glad to see you went in another direction. These are all great tips. I’ve just started a little organizing around my house. I admit I have a really hard time getting rid of my running shoes. They are like memories. I’d love to have a blogger swap for barely used clothing. I can’t quite figure out how to make that happen. I loved to color as a kid so I think I’d enjoy it now! Thanks for linking. I hope to see you next week!
Deborah Brooks says
Thanks fun to join you all! I don’t normally have weekend posts but was fun to join today. It is hard to get rid of old running shoes and clothes but it was time
MCM Mama Runs says
I was never stuck inside LOL. We spent hours outside on Saturday during the day. It wasn’t bad out until late afternoon…
Deborah Brooks says
I just felt stuck I guess! I am bummed that I will most likely be treadmilling all week this week though
Diana says
This is such a cute post! I cannot sit still inside, so this is perfect for my energy burning needs :)))
Deborah Brooks says
exactly! I am the same way thanks for stopping by and have a great day
Natalie says
I know it can be a pain to drive around in, but the idea of a ton of snow sounds pretty cool 🙂
You have been busy!! I want one of those coloring books and donating shoes is always a great idea.
Happy organizing and have fun with the yax trax!
PS: Stay warm!
Deborah Brooks says
It’s definitely freezing out! We don’t do so well with roads here. I was having fun with my yaxtrax yes
Kelli says
You are so energetic and organized! Aside from my planned workouts and a brief bout of shoveling and taking photos, I laid on the couch like a slug and read books! I didn’t even put my laundry away! Looks like you had a productive weekend.
Deborah Brooks says
I get so antsy I find it hard to sit still!
Tamieka@fitballingrunningmom says
Perfect! I have shoveled. And have been cleaning and de-cluttering! About to get my workout in now and then putting the kids clothes away and cleaning my room and closet!
Deborah Brooks says
Wow sounds productive!! We wont’ have school for days around here
Chaitali says
I’m definitely beginning to go stir crazy! I think online exercise videos will help today. Of course, there’s still shoveling to do but I’m not necessarily looking forward to that 🙂
Deborah Brooks says
I am so over the shoveling! Good luck today 🙂
Tricia@MissSippipiddlin says
Deborah, I’m so happy you joined in with us this week! You have some excellent ideas on how to be productive in this nasty weather! Don’t even get me to thinking about cleaning out my closet, I know it needs my attention badly! I have started… a start is better than nothing. Funny, I found a few pieces that are almost new because they were on the bottom of the pile! I hope this week is better for yall, maybe it will warm up so you can thaw out. Have a great week and we’d love to have you join us anytime Deborah!
Deborah Brooks says
Thanks Tricia! I have to do something these few days besides cook and eat right?!
Mary Beth Jackson says
Well no snow here but we cleaned out the pantry yesterday. We need to due this more often. I am too embarrassed to share hold old some of the products were that we threw a way but it was an eye opener for the hubby! I am proud to say the pantry has never looked so good!
Deborah Brooks says
I’m embarrassed to say mine is like that too! Want to come clean mine out?
Sharon says
Nice! Those are all great things to do while stuck inside! Hope you are able to get out for a run soon! Stay warm!
Deborah Brooks says
Thanks! I’ve been snow shoe ing and running with the yaxtrax but I’d like my trail back soon
Phaedra @ Blisters and Black Toenails says
When I’m stuck inside, I am the QUEEN of re-organizing things! So I’m with you on the workout clothes organization. I hate being cooped up inside but it really does force you to tackle those things that you’d normally skip doing. 🙂
Deborah Brooks says
It really does! I think I am forced to tackle the pantry tonight 🙂
Kristy @Runaway Bridal Planner says
So I am stuck indoors for other reasons. But you totally just gave me an idea, I am so getting an adult coloring book. Yup, I am getting one tomorrow!!!!!
Love the snow picture, it’s absolutely beautiful!!!!
You did remind me though, as I glanced over at my own closet. My clothes need some major organizing, and lets face it they need some weeding out too, LOL Gonna be one of my spring clean “to do’s” this year for sure!
I did re-alphabetize my DVD selection the other day. I am weird that way, and noticed as I went to get one that many were out of place from my sisters coming over to borrow them from time to time, so I tore them all off their shelves and re did that, LOL My sister thinks I am a bit crazy that way, oh well, LOL LOL
To do list tomorrow: buy coloring book!!! Gonna happen!!!
Deborah Brooks says
I really hope you enjoy the coloring book it’s relaxing and fun for sure. I still need to clean out that pantry closet-maybe tomorrow 🙂
Emmmmerz says
I chase my 3 little blessings around the house and and play and attempt to keep some semblance of clean amongst the chaos. (:
Deborah Brooks says
Oh I remember those days well! Enjoy it goes by so fast (maybe not today though) thanks for stopping by today and have a great week
Jess @hellotofit says
These are GREAT, Deborah! I don’t really work out in my own home….not the right vibe I guess, haha. But I did try and move around and stay active…oh and shoveling for three days in a row helped!!
Deborah Brooks says
That shoveling was no joke!!
Julie @ Running in a Skirt says
This was a great post! How did I miss it! I’m so glad you linked it up to #BestofBlogs My closets are the first thing to get hit when I’m stuck inside too. Great choices.
Pinned to my Healthy Living board! Thanks for the support.
Deborah Brooks says
Thanks for reading it! I still have to tackle that pantry 🙂
Janelle @ Run With No Regrets says
Great tips! Keeping an eye on my pantry is always the lowest priority, and my running clothes really need to be stored in some nice baskets so they don’t always look like such a mess!
Deborah Brooks says
I still need to get to the pantry ????
