Hello March! Weekly Run Down

Thanks for joining Kim and me for the Weekly Run Down today. Hello March! Nice to see you. March and April are often some of the best running weather months around here and I plan to take advantage of them. Here’s a peek into my week.

weekly run down

Hello March!

Monday- upper body + core + recovery ride + stretch

My legs were feeling it after yesterday’s 12 mile training run. I skipped the lower body strength today and did a short recovery Peloton ride. I was feeling much better by evening after a few more stretch classes and some foam rolling.

hello March

Tuesday- 6 mile run + stretch

I was having some anxiety after Sunday’s long run. It felt hard. I know runs are supposed to start feeling hard at this point in training. I felt much better after today’s run even on tired legs.

Hello March

Wednesday- upper body + lower body strength + core + stretch + walk

I got in a little bit of everything today. It was a gorgeous springlike day with temps around 60. I could not pass up the option of going for a walk instead of cycling. I am starting to back off on the intensity of my workouts until after my race.

March

Thursday- 6 mile tempo run + stretch

I felt really great on today’s run and enjoyed the short speed intervals. The weather was just perfect at around 50 degrees and sunshine. Spring is in the air today.

hello March

Friday- upper body + double core + stretch

I took it easy today to give my legs a little break. I just decided to hop into a race this weekend.

hello March

Saturday- Rest day + stretch

I had lunch with a friend that I have not seen in 2 years!

hello March

Sunday- Reston 10 Mile Race

I signed up last minute to do this 10 mile race as a training run. I am 2 weeks out from my Asheville Half and I hope this will be a good confidence builder for me. Stay tuned for details! Just so happens we are having a mini heatwave as well. Good to prepare for any type of weather.

I just stepped outside and was shocked at how muggy it had gotten overnight. I hope you have a great race and the weather doesn’t bother you too much. Some of my friends are running it today and one of them posted a picture of the race jacket- what great swag! It used to be one of Bill’s and my favorite races, but those hills…

So glad to hear you had such a strong race and hope it helped with Sunday’s anxiety. You’ve got this my friend. Training is such a mind fuck at times. I love the splash of pink on Tuesday. If I had to pick one vital physical tool in training, it’s the foam roller. Such a difference maker and complement to stretching.
    Yay spring weather.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      03/07/2022 at 7:12 pm

yes, it was a good mental boost to do the race yesterday. I know I am ready for Asheville. Agree the foam roller and the theragun mini are essential pieces to my recovery routine

Best of luck at the Asheville race!! Asheville is so cute, I’m looking forward to going back maybe later this week. And aren’t those catch up dates with girlfriends so wonderful when you haven’t seen each other in too long? I love bartaco, and just had a date night there with my husband a week ago!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      03/07/2022 at 7:18 pm

Yes it was great to catch up with a friend. I love Bar Taco and did not know they were in other areas as well. I am excited for Asheville and have never been there

  17. Jenn says

    03/07/2022 at 7:22 pm

Ugh. That anxiety is the worst. I wish I knew how to make that go away for you.

I also had some soreness this week, and have been stretching and rolling like crazy.

I think running that Reston 10 miler was a smart move. You are soooo ready for Asheville.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      03/07/2022 at 7:31 pm

thanks Jenn! I think it helped a lot. I am feeling a lot more confident
