Thanks for joining Kim and me for the weekly run down. This week we say hello to December. Cue the busy and crazy season. Thank you for being here today.
Hello December
Sunday- Run 4 miles + stretch
I increased my intervals to 3:1 today without noticing much difference so we will call that a win. Have I mentioned it’s hard starting over? It was a chilly 39 this morning and I was glad I waited until 10 to head out. I finally finished the clean up from Thanksgiving and we spent the afternoon watching football. Oh my that Eagles game was stressful!
Monday-barre + core + chest/biceps strength + Peloton cycle + afternoon walk
It was a real Monday feeling this morning! I kicked off my day with a full stack of Peloton classes. I am back on Rebecca’s 5 day split for the next 2 weeks and loving it again. It’s so fantastic to see myself upping my weights for all the exercises.
Tuesday-4 mile run + core/legs strength + stretch
We woke up to some very winter temps for us with wind chills in the high 20’s. That’s more February than November! Good thing I have a ridiculous amount of running gear for every temperature! My 3:1 intervals felt good again today and we warmed up quickly out there.
Today was the first time that I did serious leg strength after a run. Ouch that’s going to leave a mark! Stretching always feels good afterward.
Wednesday-barre+ legs/biceps strength + Peloton cycle + PT
I was not as sore as expected after yesterday’s tough workout so I did it all again! Ha ha-I’m still following Rebecca’s split strength program and still loving it and feeling stronger.
Later, another PT appointment was on the calendar. She did some more dry needling which always helps. I’ve pretty much been pain free (knock on wood) for over a week. We decided I could have one more session in 2 weeks just to follow up.
Thursday-4 ish mile run + stretch + core
I upped my intervals to 4:1 today and it felt pretty good. challenging but definitely doable. Forward is a pace. We had some new members join our run this morning which is always fun. I am so lucky to have these ladies!
Later, I joined in an on line “live Braid” Challah making class. I’m feeling like I want to support my Jewish community as much as possible right now. There were participants from 49 US states and 39 countries. The sentiment was great but was kind of like being on a zoom call with my mom and 500 of her friends. lol
While I love to cook, bread making is not one of my usual recipes, it came out pretty good!
Friday-barre + core + back & biceps strength + Peloton cycle
Hello December and the start of the #3for31 challenge. Still loving Rebecca’s 5 day a week strength program, completing week 5 day 4 today. I’m feeling stronger every week.
Last minute on line Italian cooking class with Mario Batali on Zoom. Yes, that Mario Batali, who is now rebranding himself with small classes from his home. This was the first one and we loved it and the Italian food we made.
Saturday- Peloton cycle + legs & shoulders + stretch
I slept in after all that yummy Italian food and wine and did not regret it for a second. Finished my day 5 of strength today.

Looks like a great week for you and I love that you are making a comeback! Like you, I’m finding progress in strength, but running–not so much. I need to figure out a plan for running because what I am doing isn’t serving me well. I suppose that with everything as we age, we need to do things differently!
Your bread turned out so well!

Strength is going well for me and I really enjoy it. Running is improving slowly but nowhere near where I was and not sure I will ever be. For me, running has always had cycles of being amazing and really challenging. I am sorry to hear that running isn’t going well for you because you look so happy out there on your trails!
Debbie says
Yay for increasing your run/walk intervals to 4:1 and feeling good while doing it! Also, congrats on upping those weights in the gym!
I love that you took the Challah bread and Italian cooking classes. A client gave me a Challah bread kit a few years ago. While it wasn’t made completely from scratch, it took a lot of time putting it together, kneading it, etc. It made five or six loaves (I had to use a humongous bowl) and had directions on how to put the individual doughs for the unused ones in the freezer to made at a later time. It was the best bread I’ve ever made and perhaps the best bread I’ve ever eaten. I wish I’d kept the packaging so I could order more (or find the recipe for their dry mix). I should just try an online recipe and see how it compares.

It does take a lot of work to make the dough. I have tremendous respect for those who do it weekly! It sure is delicious too

I thought you might have photoshopped that street sign! Cool! Glad to hear you are pain free again. Fingers crossed it stays that way!
Your Challah looks delicious. I used to be a mad bread baker way back in the day, and Challah was one of my specialties — I just channeled my Grandmother, who was an excellent baker (although neither she nor my mother taught me).
Deborah Brooks says
My mother was not a baker at all! While I love to cook, bread is not one of things I usually make. It was fun to do and very delicious!

That bread looks amazing.
Great news on the pain free runs.
I do whatever intervals friends want. 90:30 or 2:45 or even 1:1.
Deborah Brooks says
You are a great running partner! My friends have been nice to come along w me on my intervals too
Kimberly Hatting says
That Challah looks amazing! The Italian cooking class sounds so fun! I might have to find something similar to do with friends some evening 🙂 That’s such great news on your increased strength & running progress…keep up the awesome work !
Deborah Brooks says
Yes, the 2 cooking endeavors were fun this week. I am feeling good in the gym and better on the trails thanks

YAY for pain-free running! It really is hard to come back from a layoff, but you’ll get there. Believe me- I’ve done it MANY TIMES. That challah looks amazing (yes, I would imagine it’s complicated) and the Italian cooking class sounds so fun- did you and your husband do it together?
That street sign!!! Seriously? I want to live on that street! We have a perfect four mile loop from our house so four miles is probably my most common distance for a weekday run. So funny!
Deborah Brooks says
It is hard to comeback and yes, I know you have many times as well. Yes, we cooked together it was lots of fun. The street is fab isn’t it
Coco says
That bread looks amazing! Wow!
Hooray on being pain-free! I dmeoted myself to 1:1 and 2:1 intervals (and much less of them). Hopefully that will pay off.
Deborah Brooks says
the intervals are working for me so I am sticking with them for a while
Melissa says
You are doing so great with your intervals! Glad you’re able to get back out there. And that street sign is amazing – how funny! That chalah class also sounds great – what a wonderful way to support the community. And oh my – the pasta looks SO good.
Deborah Brooks says
Both were lots of fun
San says
Oh, the challah looks amazing. I bake something similar regularly… love it!
I have not tried the Split Programs yet (I am doing too many trackers right now), but it’s on my list of Peloton to-dos. So much to do, so little time 😉
Deborah Brooks says
You are doing so many trackers! I do highly recommend them though
Kim G says
Mario Batali?1 OMG that’s so cool! And that pasta dish looks absolutely delicious!!
Deborah Brooks says
yes it was a fun find for sure!

That’s great to hear the dry needling is helping and you’ve felt good for a bit now! Your bread looks delicious. My husband makes Challah bread and one of my favorites. He also makes a yummy sourdough bread, so it’s a touch choice!
Deborah Brooks says
Thanks! Bread baking definitely takes some practice and patience
