Thanks for joining Sarah and me for Meatless Monday today. Friends & family BBQ’s are one of the quintessential gatherings of summer however, they can be challenging for non meat eaters. Worry no more-I’ve got you covered! I was excited to be able to test out some Lightlife meatless Smart Dogs and I’ve got some creative, healthy hot dog toppers to share with you. Thanks to Lightlife for sponsoring this post and giving me some inspiration. All opinions are my own.

Healthy Veggie Hot Dog Toppers

Sure the usual ketchup & mustard works but why not up your BBQ game a little? I’ve come up with 4 fun and healthy Veggie Hot Dog Toppers for you to wow your guests with at your next BBQ. It’s easy to offer a vegetarian (and healthier) option that is no fuss to throw on the grill right next to your usual fare and these Lightlife Smart Dogs are full of protein and pretty tasty too.

healthy veggie hot dog toppers

The Tex Mex

Who doesn’t love avocado on everything? Pile up your hot dog with black beans, cheddar cheese, salsa and avocado for a spicy Tex Mex treat.

Healthy veggie hot dog toppers

The Parm

A classic favorite flavor combo of mozzarella and tomato sauce also works perfectly atop these healthy dogs.

Healthy Veggie hot dog toppers

The All American

Some people just love the standard mustard and ketchup on their dogs. Instead of a plain relish throw together a tasty spicy zucchini relish (diced fresh zucchin and spicy red pepper relish) and watch your guests eat it up.

Healthy Hot Dog Toppers

The Med

Take your favorite Mediterranean faves-hummus, feta and fresh tomatoes and pile them high for yummy change of pace.

I had most of the ingredients already in my pantry and fridge so whipping up these toppings was super easy. No need to eat boring old hot dogs when you can offer easy creative hot dog toppers your vegetarians and non vegetarians will all scoop right up. Check out my salads page for some yummy sides to go with these.

You can find Lightlife products in the refrigerated section of your grocery store. For more info check here.

About Deborah Brooks

Hi I'm Deborah! I spend my days successfully raising a husband & 2 teens in the VA/DC area. I am a lover of all things running & fitness. As a life long vegetarian, I've always been passionate about healthy living & exercise. Looking for partners in crime, I started my own chapter of Moms Run This Town (MRTT) which has grown to over 700 members. I've met so many amazing women who inspire me daily to keep moving forward. You can usually find me running with my crew and training for the next crazy adventure they talked me into. I love to keep up to date on new running & fitness trends. I definitely choose my running gear based on color and love to express my fashion sense while exercising.

I love in Chicago how we pile up our hot dogs with peppers, relish and tomatoes. I’ve been known to have Alex get a hot dog so that I can go ham on the toppings!

      06/26/2017 at 6:48 am

I always love all the toppings but not usually the dogs! I like to have a veggie option too

  4. Kimberly says

These are definitely some creative and new to me hot dog toppings – thanks! I’m very basic and usually just top my hot dog with ketchup, lol

    • Deborah Brooks says

I never do either but I am loving this veggie version and of course the toppings are the best part right?

  6. Rachel says

    06/26/2017 at 8:05 am

I confess — I don’t put anything on my hot dogs! I actually don’t even eat them all that often but when I do I go plain Jane. Lol!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      06/26/2017 at 8:09 am

We might need to change that!

So many fun ideas! There’s a hot dog place near us that I always ask to eat at for my birthday. It’s like one of three times a year I eat hot dogs, but they make these amazing chili cheese dogs. Maybe I’ll try making my own version with these veggie dogs!

  31. Emily @ Pizza & Pull-ups says

    06/27/2017 at 12:44 pm

Yum! I have tried those litelife dogs before and they are tasty. I tend to go pretty classic if having a hotdog, but love the Tex mex idea.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      06/27/2017 at 3:42 pm

The tex mex is my favorite but I may have eaten them all 🙂

  32. Kathryn @ Dancing to Running says

    06/27/2017 at 1:54 pm

So many unique ways to top hot dogs. I don’t eat hot dogs anymore (I had a bad food poisoning experience with them years ago and haven’t touched one since), but I’ll have to share these ideas with my husband. I’m sure that he’ll enjoy some of them.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      06/27/2017 at 3:46 pm

The veggie hot dogs are much healthier and I doubt you run the same risk of a reaction.

  33. RunawayBridalPlanner says

    06/27/2017 at 3:38 pm

Oh my goodness, this recipe just totally hit the spot. I would love this for dinner! They are like gourmet hot dogs, love it!!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      06/27/2017 at 3:47 pm

Yes definitely! The toppings are the best part and I may have eaten all of them myself

  34. Ilka says

    06/27/2017 at 4:23 pm

Those toppings are great choices. Of course avocado being my favorite!!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      06/27/2017 at 7:36 pm

      Seems to be a winner!
