Happy Wednesday! Today I am going to share a bit about my half metric century ride last weekend and the fabulous new Skirt Sports bike skirt I wore while pedaling away. As you may know, I’ve been a Skirt Sports ambassador for a few years now and could not wait to get my hands on their new bike skirt. I purchased this skirt on my own and the giveaway at the bottom is also purely from my love of the product. This is not a sponsored post. So let’s get right to this Half Metric Ride + Cruiser Bike Girl Review + Giveaway.
Reston Half Metric Ride
I have been participating in this local ride for the last few years and find it to be a great low key end of the summer event. There are 3 distances to choose from Century (100 miles), Metric (66 miles) Half Metric (33 miles). As I had not done any rides over 25 miles in a while, I chose the Half Metric distance.
Blessed with a cool August morning (68 degrees) and a rolling start my day was off to a great start. I set out with my friend, Charlotte to tackle the 33 miles. The first 10 miles or so had us on a few higher traffic roads than I would have liked. In previous years, the route was all on a bike path. Perhaps people got bored with that?
Our route took us by the staffed and stocked rest stops twice at about mile 15 and mile 22. We stopped after mile 15 for a quick bathroom stop, a refilling of our water bottles and small snack. They had various granola bars, watermelon, orange slices and pickles with little cups of pickle juice. I guess pickle juice is all the rage right now?! I went for a few orange slices and nixed the pickle juice. Off we went with the next 10 miles mostly on neighborhood roads with less traffic.
We did not stop on the return and opted to just do a quick water stop. The temps started to rise and I was certainly ready to be finished as we neared the end of 33 mile ride. My neck and shoulders were definitely getting tight and I desperately wanted to stretch. Feeling accomplished and happy to see the finish line!
Cruiser Bike Girl Skirt-What I wore
As soon as I heard that Skirt Sports was coming out with a new & updated Cruiser Bike Girl Skirt, I knew I had to have it for this ride. Yup why test out a new product on a short ride when you can wear it for 33 miles ha ha. That’s how I roll!
I am very particular about my chamois shorts. I am no Goldilocks but I do like enough of a padding to feel that my “girl areas” are comfortable but not too much to feel as though I’ve got a diaper on. Then there is the skirt over top. I was wondering whether the skirt would get caught on the seat or be annoying while riding. Happy to report that the chamois was just right for a long-ish ride. I was completely comfortable on my seat for the whole ride. The skirt (15.5 inches) was light and breathable and I kind of forgot I was wearing it. Exactly what I was looking for in a bike short that I would be wearing for a few hours. The shorts are 6 inches long with 2 pockets.
Other bike shorts that I’ve had, particularly tri shorts, tend to roll down from the waist while riding creating that not so comfy abdominal spill over. You know what I mean. I was pleasantly surprised that the waistband of the Cruiser Bike Girl Skirt stayed right where it was supposed to the whole ride. Final verdict: LOVE IT!
I love it so much that I am giving away a $25 gift card to Skirt Sports that you can use on this skirt or on anything else that you like from the new fall line. In fact you can combine it with my 20% off code (FWC20) and score even more gear. Just sharing the love (again not sponsored).
Ever tried a Bike Skirt? Are you particular about your chamois too?

That’s awesome that you were blessed with cool temperatures for the ride, especially in August! Looks like a well managed and fun bike event!
Deborah Brooks says
It was lots of fun for sure glad I did it
Wendy@Taking the Long Way Home says
I love running skirts and I have considered wearing one on the bike, but they don’t have padding. I’d love to try this one!
Deborah Brooks says
I love the padding on this one-thanks for entering
Coco says
I couldn’t face the pickle juice but I did have some pickle! I definitely want to check out that new cycling skirt. I agree with you on padding. The shorts they had at the Fondo had way too much!
Deborah Brooks says
It is a personal thing for sure on the padding but I did love this skirt. I hear they are selling out very quickly
Debbie says
I have a Skirt Sports Cycling Skirt in bright pink that I’ve had for years! I don’t even know if it was the original cruiser skirt because it just says TRIKS on the skirt. It does have pockets on the leg and good padding. I guess I should pull out my bike again so that I can wear it!
Deborah Brooks says
I think you should! I did not have one back then
Susie @ Suzlyfe says
What a cute idea! And we know how much you love your fitness skirts!
Deborah Brooks says
I definitely do! They are so versatile and comfy
Lori Mayer says
Wow it’s looks like the skirt had really good padding. I didn’t realize all the issues we develop when we take up certain sports.
Deborah Brooks says
Ha ha yes lots of things to consider for sure. I highly rec the skirt sports skirts check them out
Katie Shepherd says
I don’t cycle but I love your bike skirt!! How cute and functional!! Looks like you had a great ride and great weather for it!
Deborah Brooks says
I did love it! I love the whole line of all of their running skirts and I use them for all of my activities
GiGi Eats says
NEED WANT AND MUST HAVE that skirt. I have been really into fitness SKIRTS these days! They just make all legs look EVEN BETTER than regular shorts, yet they also are a tad bit more feminine. 🙂 I must scope these out!
Deborah Brooks says
I totally agree! I love them you should definitely check them out
Janelle @ Run With No Regrets says
Honestly I didn’t know what bike skirts existed! Congrats on your half metric ride, it looks like a lot of fun!
Deborah Brooks says
It was a lot of fun! Bike skirts are the best
HoHo Runs says
Great job on the ride. Teresa and I are now mulling over a shorter distance. LOL. A bike skirt? You KNOW I want one! A trainer ride bothers my girl parts more than an outdoor ride, but I do wear padding on both for longer distances. The heavy padding (diaper feeling) is more awful in the heat (just sayin’).
Deborah Brooks says
I know you and Teresa are training for your event too. 33 miles was just enough for me really. I have a hard time fueling and hydrating on longer rides too. I think you would love the skirt it was so comfy
Jamie says
I love the skirt sports capri/skirts for racing long distances. The pockets are perfect for holding my fuel so I don’t have to wear bulky waist pouches. Somehow mine have gone missing though so it’s definitely time for some new ones!
Deborah Brooks says
The pockets are great in all of their gear I love them. Sounds like it’s definitely time for a new one 🙂
Siri says
I bought an old version of the Cruiser Girl and have only tried it once, but it was great. I don’t ride as much as I would like to, unfortunately. I’m still not all that comfortable on a bike.
Deborah Brooks says
I never had the old version so I was so excited to try this one out. I do love to ride outside in the summer but I bet I will use this one in spin class as well. Thanks for stopping in today
Marina @ Happy Healing says
Ah this looks like so much fun. I’ve never run/worked out in a skirt, but it looks cute and comfy! Hope you have a great day 🙂
Deborah Brooks says
They are great for running and working out-sounds like you need to try one
Cyndi says
Congrats on the bike ride! So nice to have cooler temps. I’m not a biker, but I would definitely want padding. Looks like a great skirt. I just might have tried the pickle juice!
Deborah Brooks says
Yes a little padding is great. I love the running skirts too just makes me feel a little more feminine and fun
Jessy says
I’m in love with Skirt Sports running skirts! I have a pair of bike shorts that I wear, but I always feel like I look like I’m wearing a diaper. I’m intrigued by the idea of a bike skirt though, and if past experience is any indication, the one from Skirt Sports must be great!
Deborah Brooks says
Great to hear! If you love their skirts than I think you would love the bike skirt too. Similar fit
Judy @ Chocolaterunsjudy says
Well, since I don’t bike, no, obviously I haven’t tried a bike skirt. Good to know I can recommend Skirtsport’s version, though. Of course I am not at all surprised — Nicole should absolutely know what she’s doing there!
Deborah Brooks says
Yes they are as comfy as the regular skirts for sure
Kimberly Hatting says
ummmmm, would you believe I do not own any bike-related clothing? Well, I do have a jersey the hubby brought me back from a week-long ride he did a month ago…but that’s it. No padded shorts (eeewww!) or bike shoes (eek!). SO, I have nothing to contribute to a chamois-type of conversation LOL That said, I do want to (someday) give cycling a whirl. Just not today, and certainly not until this Voldemort thing is completely healed & sealed 😉 You always look so official in all of your gear 😉
Deborah Brooks says
Official ha! I love that. I do think having the right bike shorts on helps make a ride more enjoyable. You would look awfully cute in one of the running skirts too 🙂
Steph says
Hope all the great summer adventures lead to a fabulous Fall!
