Thanks for joining me and Kim for the weekly run down today. We are making up for lost time and have a very busy summer full of adventures coming right up. I am really excited about traveling again after the last few years. I’ve decided it is my summer of “yes, I will be there”. I am not ready to spill all the details yet but will share that our first adventure requires passports.
I plan to post tons of photos on Insta starting towards the end of the week and of course here every Sunday. Looking forward to sharing my adventures soon. For now, here is a peek into my week of fitness and running.
Getting Ready for summer adventures
This is a cut back week for me in my running program with straight endurance runs 3 times this week.
Monday- core + upper body strength + Peloton cycle
I am always excited to see a new Peloton milestone pop up and today I hit my 3 year weekly streak. I have had my bike for about 3.5 years now. I do not remember if they had these badges back then or not. I am very thankful to have the opportunity to take these classes the last few years and I know I am stronger and happier for it.
Tuesday- 4.25 mile easy run + stretch class
It was a really gorgeous day for a run. We headed out for iced tea after to celebrate one of our crew’s birthdays. Just like old times!
Wednesday- Upper + lower body strength + core + stretch
I kicked my butt along with a little help from Rad (Peloton) with an intense glutes and legs class. It feels good to lift heavy weights! I am also working my way through Tunde’s new arms program. I will my thoughts on that in a few weeks.
I also had the opportunity to have a “house call” from Dr. Meg the PT from MovementX. She is part of a trendy new PT group that comes to you! How great is that? She really helped me out with some new foot and ankle stretches. I am going to share more next week but here is a sneak peek.

Thursday-4.5 ish easy miles + stretch + core
My easy run did not feel too easy with the intense heat that rolled in this week. I am so not a summer running weather lover! Wouldn’t it be amazing if it could be fall temps until like 10 am and then summer all day? I will have to talk to someone about that. Nonetheless, it is good training for my upcoming summer adventures.
Friday- full body strength + core + 2 mile walk
A little bit of everything to round out the week. I also had the chance to try out a new infrared sauna that my massage place just added. Well, doesn’t everyone want a sauna session when it is 95 degrees out?!
Saturday- rest day + stretch
Enjoying a rest day today. I started packing for our trip and got overwhelmed. We also tested out our new pizza oven.
Sunday-6 miles on the plan
It is going to be in the mid 90’s again so we will see how that goes!
In other exciting news, after applying to the League of Garmin for 2 years, I finally got accepted. The Garmin app has been so helpful for setting up the speed workouts and intervals. More on that later!
Marcia says
Busy week for you! Congrats on the Garmin gig! That’s so exciting! I reconsider the sauna on super hot days but I’ve been getting in there. Our heat comes and goes. This week it is GONE! Some moderation would be nice!
Deborah Brooks says
the sauna is nice but yes, I would appreciate it more in the winter for sure. I hate when we get this hot without acclimating!
Kimberly Hatting says
As hot as the sauna must feel, I bet it feels relaxing & kind of “cleansing.” I’ve never had the experience, believe it or not. I’m excited to hear about your upcoming summer adventures:-) Well done on a great weekend of fitness!
Deborah Brooks says
yes, it is a relaxing cleanse. You don’t sweat as much as in a regular type of sauna. I am sure I will take advantage of it more when it’s not so hot!
Coco says
Wow, so many exciting things! Huge congrats on the League of Garmin. From my perspective they are lucky to have you.
Can’t wait to follow your summer adventures. We don’t have anything epic planned.
The IR sauna sounds interesting. I was fascinated by the IR heat in the Corepower Balston studio. I guess it’s like that?
Safe travels!
Deborah Brooks says
thanks I am excited to travel around again! I did not know they had the infrared sauna at core power. I used to do it at stretch smart and really like it before a massage
Lisa @ TechChick Adventures says
Garmin! So cool! Congrats on that! I do love my Garmin 🙂 (wait, Garmins… both of them!) I look forward to hearing about your planned travel. We’ll see how well my guess is! I’m in the thick of travel planning too. We’ve got a big one on our agenda – Hawaii!
I agree – Fall weather until 10am would be amazing.
Deborah Brooks says
Ooh Hawaii is always fun! We went there on our honeymoon and then again with our kids a few years ago. Which islands are you doing?
Debbie @ Deb Runs says
We had an infrared sauna at the wellness center where I worked for years, but I never used it because I don’t like getting hot when I don’t have to… I know, I know.
I’m looking forward to hearing all about your travel adventures. Have fun!
Deborah Brooks says
I like the IR sauna before a stretch or massage!
Jenny says
Okay, I’m all for your new plan- fall temps till 10 am sound perfect. I like those foot stretches- that type of thing feels really good on my “difficult” foot.
I’m looking forward to hearing about your trip! Sounds exciting.
Deborah Brooks says
I have some more foot stretches to share but yes, they do feel good. I have to remember to keep them in my rotation. Excited for my trip!
Michelle says
Big congrats on the Garmin gig!
The sauna before a massage sounds like perfection to me! I’m sure you will especially appreciate it once cooler weather returns.
Sounds like you have some fun travel plans – looking forward to hearing more. Enjoy!
Deborah Brooks says
I do like the sauna before a massage and yes, I will like it more in the cooler temps. Stay tuned for all the travel pics coming soon
Warren Footz says
love that summer of yes…..I’ve done that…..idea to action, and even better if it’s something that may make me feel initially uncomfortable…and more often than not, I’m always glad I said sure
Deborah Brooks says
yes exactly! Looking forward to it all
Chocolaterunsjudy says
Sounds like you have an exciting Summer planned! I didn’t even know there was a League of Garmin! I am also overwhelmed by packing sometimes.
Deborah Brooks says
I definitely get overwhelmed by packing for long trips!
Liz Dexter says
I hear you on the temperatures! We’re having some muggy time here, not that fun! Well done on a good week!
Deborah Brooks says
no the humid runs are not my favorite at all! Stay cool
Kim G says
I love that this will be your “summer of yes” and look forward to seeing all the photos from your adventures!
When I used to do a lot of racecations I had a packing checklist that I used to make sure I didn’t forget anything. It made packing a little less stressful.
That’s awesome news about Garmin – congrats!!
Deborah Brooks says
I had a packing list as well for race trips. I am getting overwhelmed with packing for a long trip
Cari says
Congratulations on League of Garmin and Boo on overwhelmed. Hang in there.
I am totally with you on fall mornings. Please. Would truly be the best of both worlds, and I had nearly the same thought about last week.
Can’t wait to follow all the adventures.
Deborah Brooks says
fall running will be here again before we know it! Remind me I said that in August when I am complaining 🙂
Jenn says
Yay for League of Garmin!
I want to use my passport so badly. Soon. In the meantime, I can’t wait to follow your adventures!
Love the week you had! it looks like so much fun!
Deborah Brooks says
Yes, I am excited to use my passport again. Hope you get to take advantage of yours too soon
